  1. How huge will picking up Herman turn out to be...
  2. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I know it is an insider article, but could anyone give me the gist of the ESPN.com article on what Depaul will due to replace Leitao DePaul athletic director Jean Lenti-Ponsetto was gathering names for a potential successor to Dave Leitao at DePaul earlier this week. Don't be surprised to see some Big East influence on the search. Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese has historically had some advice for athletic directors making hires for jobs at member institutions. DePaul will join the conference for the 2005-06 season. If the job does come open, expect to hear these names, among many: DePaul assistant coach Josh Oppenheimer; former North Carolina coach Matt Doherty; Ohio University coach Tim O'Shea; George Washington coach Karl Hobbs (who, like O'Shea, just received a contract extension); Manhattan's Bobby Gonzalez; Connecticut assistant Tom Moore; Duke assistant Chris Collins; and, although this set is a reach, there could be a private play for three ESPN analysts – Rick Majerus, Digger Phelps and Fran Fraschilla, all of whom have ties to the area or the Big East. Recruiting starts this weekend, and DePaul has visits lined up. Unlike in Virginia's search, Lenti-Ponsetto would likely act very quickly and not allow the search to extend beyond a week. DePaul is a private school and isn't subject to state hiring practices.
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) BTW, with Steff starting all these threads, we should change this folder to "Steff, Lies, and Politics". I need a 'net acronym dictionary for her posts.
  4. I was too drunk to remember or notice if they were racist... Ok, what the heck is iirc?
  5. QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) I just saw it, didn't look to bad, but come on now. It doesn't matter. I agree with Harold Reynolds...the security guard did his job, and I give him a big thumbs up...he sprinted his ass over there, way to go Mr. Security Guard. I agree. He literally ran out and jumped into the stands before it escalated. Very rarely does a security guard look like he's doing his job...detroit-pacers, for example...
  6. Anybody else "drive" (well, drag the cursor) from their house to Comiskey? My school is a couple of blocks down...De La Salle...
  7. Others sports players have successfully played after these kinds of problems/conditions. I'm not sure where I read or saw that, but he isn't the first athlete to have this happen to. Anybody have any good examples? Heart-related problems, that is...
  8. Love is such a strong word... I'd call it an infatuation.
  9. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Are you on Roids I like that excuse better than gaining weight on this college diet.
  10. Yep. They were selling for 10 bucks at Lids in 2003, I think... I picked one up but it's fitting kinda tight now... Edit: Oh, I thought you did mean the 1917 hat. Poor attention to detail on my part. Disregard that.
  11. s***!!! Even the Curry-haters have to admit this hurts our chances at having a successfull playoffs run... Damn, this sucks.
  12. HE GONE! --- ESPN.com DePaul coach Dave Leitao will be hired to replace Pete Gillen as men's basketball coach at Virginia, sources have told ESPN's Dick Vitale. An official announcement has not been scheduled, but Leitao flew to Charlottsville on Thursday morning for a formal interview with Virginia officials, De Paul spokesperson Scott Reed said earlier Thursday. Leitao is the only coach to officially interview. He first met with athletics director Craig Littlepage on Friday at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Portsmouth, Va. Leitao, who was hired by DePaul in April 2002, guided the Blue Demons to a share of the Conference USA regular-season title and their first NCAA Tournament victory since 1989. This past season, the Blue Demons played in the NIT, where they lost to Texas A&M in the second round. Prior to DePaul, Leitao spent six seasons as an associate head coach under Jim Calhoun at Connecticut. DePaul athletic director Jean Lenti-Ponsetto convened a meeting with the DePaul assistant coaches Thursday afternoon to discuss the next plan of action. Sources within DePaul and those close to Leitao expect him to accept the job once it has been offered. Leitao has told friends that he could see coaching at Virginia. Throughout the week he has been in his DePaul office, conducting business on campus. Littlepage said throughout the process that it would take four to six weeks to replace Gillen. Multiple sources said the Cavaliers tried to entice Kentucky's Tubby Smith but to no avail. If Leitao enters the Atlantic Coast Conference, he would avoid being in the same conference as his mentor, Calhoun. --- My take: Good riddance. I don't want a coach who doesn't want to be here. DePaul has the potential to reach a elite status it had in its past history, but a key to that will be a coach that wants realizes that and wants to be here for the long haul. Leitao never had any intention of staying...He wants his final destination to be UConn...Good for him. I also believe UVa is grossly overpaying for him. He really hasn't accomplished much, and last year's team choked away a chance to go to the Tournament. My biggest problem was that his offense sucks. My only real concerns are that we will not go out and hire the big name that this program deserves at this point heading into the Big East (Majerus? Lavin? Digger?), and that the incoming recruiting class, which is a top 20 class, will decide not to honor their LOI (especially Chandler, mr. basketball michigan). This can be a positive if the buyout money is used to hire a top coach who can keep the recruits and continue leading DePaul in the right direction while staying competitive in the BE. It's going to be sad if we hire some mid-major coach and become cellar-dwellers in the BE...
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) Put him on the bobcats he would average 15 a game if not more. He would either be a starter their or one of the first off the bench. Highly unlikely. They play a similar rotation as the Bulls and Memphis in which everyone contributes and only about 2 or 3 guys play more than 30 minutes. luther head is a product of the Ill offense and won't be much of a pro. The only way he would possibly be considered a first-rounder is a lack of talent in the draft, but I highly doubt that will happen with some of the early entrants, and the international players, high school kids too, garnering attention... And I still don't believe head or dee brown will be better than deron, not that I think deron will be that great either...
  14. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) I'm with Sleepy on this one. Just doesn't seem right...
  15. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) and perhaps the biggest underachiever in the NBA (Olowakandi). "Excuse me?" Yeah, the sad part is they're old AND they quit on the team. Toss-up between kwame and the kandi man...
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) http://info.detnews.com/tigersblog/ Does anyone else think that it's really Magg$'s knee that's bothering him and he's using all of these other injuries as an excuse? Keep in mind that if Magg$ has to spend 25 days or more on the disabled list due to left knee problems, his huge contract can be voided by the Tigers. You see, that's the problem. detroit would be dumb to allow it to be listed as anything other than a knee problem if that's what it is because now they would be risking using that void if that is indeed the problem. But maybe they are that dumb...
  17. QUOTE(toasty @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) "They, like the F&F seats" I may be dense, but what are F&F seats? I've yet to decipher most of her posts... Nothing but abbreviations and acronyms.

  21. QUOTE(tony72 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) I always like the New Comiskey - even before the renovations.. I remember at the old park you couldn't see half the time because of the poles..it was cramped and uncomfortable. Then the new park was built...no poles...spacious..comfortable (remember how great everyone thought it was in 1991?) Then Camden Yards, Jacobs Field and wah..wah..wah...(stale..steep upper deck..blue seat..wah)... Personally..these new retro parks are no longer unique..everyone is trying to outcharm the other.. To me U.S. Cellular is a combination of retro and modern which I think makes it a special ballpark. It does look better with the changes. But I have been to many parks and think ours is one of the best (and one of the most underrated). As the neighborhood improves - our park's image will increase as will attendance. No one thought Wrigley was too great in the 1960's and 1970's until that neighborhood became Yuppieville. I think the area around Comiskey will actually be much nicer in five years than the area around Wrigley Field now. No doubt. I'm excited about how the complete package is going to look once the green seats are put in place. Aesthetically (damn, I probably spelled that wrong), the most glaring flaws were the outer view of the upper deck, and after that was changed, the clashing of the blue seats. The FUNdamentals part was a nice touch. I like the idea of ours being a combo of retro and modern.
  22. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) I'm starting to hate the Wizards just by watching this game. It will be fun when we have more guys and kick their asses in the playoffs (if we play them). That Chandler call was ridiculous. The proof that it wasn't intentional was that he was calm after getting ejected. Most guys explode because they were already mad so it's obvious they did something intentional. Great effort by the guys, I knew they would make a comeback and they will hopefully keep pushing. Oh and f*** that ref. It is a consolation at watching Kwame Brown suck though. Imagine that the Wizards picked him ahead of Chandler and Curry among others. I was watching the Sox so I didn't bother to watch after seeing the score in the 1st. I'm gonna have to see what Tyson did...
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Who was the opposing coach? Plus he had zero choice in the matter. Artest got off light compared to what he could have gotten. Stern caters to larry brown??? Good one. Being suspended over 60 games isn't light; it's actually even more strict when compared to the p*ssy (Can I say that on here?) punishments that other leagues hand out... He did have a choice and made the right call.
  24. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Apr 12, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=330462&cc=5901 Only soccer fans We're allowed to criticize other fans? But yeah, soccer fans are notoriously the worst. They put running out and beating an ump to shame. Riots and such seem to be the norm in those big European rivalries, and Latin America, to a lesser extenct.
