  1. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) Most of you are trying to lose weight, but where do us skinny guys go for help? So here's my deal: I am the classic 'hard gainer', naturally skinny, it's very difficult for me to put on any weight or muscle. Whenever I have been successful at putting on muscle, I also put on some fat. As I get older, more and more of it accumulates around my belly and I put on less muscle mass. Getting rid of the belly is not the problem, the problem is that along with the belly, goes the muscle. Lately, more of the belly stays around and more of the muscle is going away. How do I put on muscle mass, or at least maintain it without getting fat around the belly at the same time? A s*** ton of lean protein and protein shakes. Min 3 a day. I would lean out if you can and lose most of your fat then pack on lean mass.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 05:36 PM) True. But Davis, Tisdale and Dmac will be seniors. Paul, Richardson, Bertrand and Griffey will be sophomores. And Illinois' 2010 class is currently ranked #3. Damn, I just got a little warm and tingly inside. The Big-10 has a chance to be what the Big East is now in 2-3 years. I dont think Davis is a 4 year player. But yeah, the B10 should be loaded. I say should, because this time a few years ago I thought our lineup would have Conley, Cook, Kofous, Turner and Mullens. The downside of good recruits like we are going to get is that they are one and done now. I really wish they would like HS players jump to the NBA so teams wouldnt have to reload every year.
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) It could be a lot worse. Their offense and bullpen will make up a lot. Plus, it's not like you know if all their guys suck. It's just a question mark right now. Also, IP really shouldn't be part of the debate IMO. If you're good, you're good. The middle of their order isnt as good with non-roid Hafner. And I dont think their pen is all that great either, they have their closer hopes resting on a guy who has been healthy one out of the last 10 seasons.
  4. Pearl Jam Ten downloaded onto Rock Band. Awesome.
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) Watching Owens hit, there is NO question why he has no power. What a freakin' feeble looking swing. Lillibridge looks like Mark McGuire up there in comparison. Short armed uppercut, its terrible.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) I'm glad Mullens is gone. Let's just hope Evan Turner was blowing smoke when he said he's coming back. You'll only get one year off, OSU has the #1 class for 2010 as of now.
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Link? Improvement by players comes in practice and in the offseason. Game experience is certainly important , but even if you aren't playing a ton you are going up against better players in practice then you ever do in college basketball. You have more time to work out and practice then you do in the NBA and you have more money to improve your diet which makes a big difference for some players. Now if you don't have a good work ethic then you won't improve if you aren't playing but if you are going to put in the work there is no reason you can't improve more by going to the NBA then you would by staying in college. Also based on the pay scale of the NBA it is more important to get to your post rookie contract as early as possible then make a little more during your first three years in the NBA. Can we have a link to your supporting evidence? That seems to be your argument. And I said that he would improve his draft stock and his wallet by staying a year. Its supported every season in college bball when sophs, juniors and seniors raise their draft status, my link is www.espn.com
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) He could just as easily improve in the NBA. Why do people act like you improve more by staying in college then playing in the NBA? There really is no evidence of that at all even for guys who aren't getting a lot of PT early on. Because once he's in the NBA he wont improve his draft status by improving. If he stayed a year he may be a top 5 pick, which would make him more money. He would also actually be playing instead of garbage min once in awhile. Repetition is the heart of improvement.
  9. You cant help but like a kid who will go out, throw the ball, and know his role. He is the epitomy of a great teamate and ballplayer.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) I'm sure the millions of dollars will help cushion that blow. Not nearly as much money as if he would have stayed a year and improved his status. He's a fringe first round pick, he would have easily made it into the lottery. He spent part of his childhood in a homeless shelter which really motivated him to make the jump now, which is 100 percent understandable, but I agree with most of the experts that say he could improve both his game and his wallet with another year in college......As well as my Bucks chances at a Big Ten title. I'll still be extremely happy if Turner stays like he said he would
  11. This female ref is awful. Wade is a hack on D but never gets called for it.
  12. Laffey will be up replacing one of those guys early
  13. QUOTE (almagest @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) What makes you think this? I haven't seen Marquez pitch at all this spring, but the results in box scores haven't been very good at all. Based on the pitches I've seen him throw and the coaching staff we have in place. He has a nice sinker and change. His curve will occassionaly float which hurts him and left handed hitters can take him the other way with ease. He is a few small adjustments away from being a big league pitcher IMO.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) I would give Marquez back to the Yankees for Melky. I think Melky is overrated, but Marquez might be a mediocre long man some day. The big plus about getting Melky is Owens and Wise are probably both off the roster. Now if there was someone to take Lillibridge and Miller off as well. I disagree, I think he will be a very serviceable middle of the rotation starter in the near future.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 03:59 PM) It will be entertaining watching Corky look retarded at the plate facing the likes of Liriano this season. at least he wont shaving cream pie everyone after each win.
  16. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) You make a great point. Guys like Wohlers and Matt Anderson never really panned out, and Zumaya has had injury problems. And those guys were closers. That being said if I have the #1 pick I wouldn't pass on him, you just don't wanna be the team that passes on a guy like that. No, you dont. But there is something to the health of guys who throw that heat that early.

    Well Water

QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 02:12 PM) Depends on where you drill the well. It probably is better for you, health wise. Being a hiker and backpacker, I have a high tolerance for taste in water. I would suggest revisiting the house and tasting the water. For a comparison, find out what chemicals your city water is treated with and what chemicals are added. Right, plus you can always fix the well, get a new pump, filter etc. Our well water tasted just like our lake until we dug a new well and now its every bit as good as Chicago water.
  18. The book on Marquez is for lefties to take him up the middle or oppo. He needs a pitch to counteract that.
  19. Its funny that Owens is consistently talked about as this speed demon that tears up the basepaths and Getz is CLEARLY faster on the field than Owens is. There isnt a player on the team that gets from the batters box to 1B faster than Chris Getz.

    Well Water

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) My wife and I are looking to capitalize on the bad market and buy our first house this summer. We found one that could have some good potential, but the possible deal breaker is that the house uses well water and a septic tank. I understand that the septic tank can be an issue because I'd have to pay for it to remove waste a few times a year and if there's something wrong with it, that'd be my major cost. My question to Soxtalk is... does anyone have experience with well water? Did it stain your clothes and taste bad? I've heard some people say that it is awful no matter what and others say that if you have a good water softner that you won't know the difference between well and city water. Anyone with experience with well water homes give me your thoughts. In case it matters, this house is in unincorporated Wheaton. Few times a year? We empty ours in michigan once in a blue moon. Also our well water was terrible, but we built a new well and installed a new pump system and it was not even noticeable versus city water.
  21. QUOTE (rangercal @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) We just signed a Right tackle (kevin shaffer) yesterday, Chris Williams , Kruetz,Garza and Beekman. Not the best OL in the world, but I bet it will be better than last year. So we signed the guy that was let go so Cle could sign St.Clair, and basically a rookie at the bookends. Not exactly a good line, and not even as good as last year.
  22. If we got Cutler (which there is about a .9 percent chance) who in the hell would protect him?
