QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 09:53 AM) Could be good. Just need to keep in mind, he's a project. Can they get him to give the effort necessary to succeed? Sometimes people like that are just not capable of doing so. Other times, they "figure it out". If he can be had for cheap, then heck, give him a shot. Just don't think that his talent will necessarily translate to results, when it seems he has a rep for dogging it. Yeah, but where did that rep come from? I bet anyone that 99 percent of the writers who are writing those sentiments havent seen the kid play and probably dont even know what number he wears. People have been down on Cuban ballplayers for awhile, saying they are undisciplined, do not want to learn, lazy, etc. I will say from watching Alexei last season that alot of these people are incredibly stupid for writing what they do. Even when Lexy defected, people were talking about how his talent wouldnt translate and they chastised Torres for saying he was MLB ready right away. Here is one exerpt I found on Alexei

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) Sloane needs to eat a hamburger...way too skinny. Ari's speech at the luncheon was golden. I disagree, I think she looked unreal. Its amazing those boobs are natural, and even in that loose dress I could see how phenomenal her ass is.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Trib article seems to indicate that this guy is a bit of a slacker. Good. I hope the media who probably hasnt seen him play even once lowers his value so we can sign him for cheaper.

You only trade Jenks if you get younger elite talent in return. Trading him for an older middle of the order player is simply stupid.

Some more names that might make sense to KW

You should rename this thread, crap KW could fill his roster with at the end of the offseason. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) This team is just playing some scary good hockey right now. The only thing they really need to do is cut back on the penalites. Other than that, they look incredible right now. I would enjoy a couple of winning ends of some fights, but thats minor. Also, I have to say this, it may be time to see what you can get for Seabrook, the kid looks terrible this season and actually just fell over a few times last night. -
Details of the Peavy trade negotiations...

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 10:38 AM) As the Cubs step up their pursuit of San Diego Padres ace Jake Peavy, they might be playing themselves out of the bidding for one of their top offseason priorities, Baltimore Orioles leadoff hitter Brian Roberts. Sources say the Padres are seeking a three-for-one or four-for-one swap for Peavy, getting a package of young talent that is expected to include at least one major-league-ready pitcher. That could cost the Cubs some of their best trading chips in their pursuit of Roberts. Chicago Sun Times Thanks Trib. Also the players they are offering are pretty much crap that cant even play for the Cubs, but they are the "favorites". And they have chased Roberts before and didnt have enough and traded away their best pitching chip in Gallagher, yet they have a chance again? Who is pumping cubbie koolaid into the water system? -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) Just another solid all around effort tonight. They are playing a good team game, lots of good puck movement in all three zones, and not giving up a ton of prime scoring opportunities at their end. Q has them playing well right now. Schedule the rest of this week gets tough - 2 of the next 3 are against a good Boston team and a ridiculously hot Sharks team. Will be interesting to see those 2 games with a St Louis game in between. Keep up the domination at home, go .500 or so on the road, don't collapse on the two long trips this season. Ill say this, Under Q they are alot more creative in the offensive end of the ice. The passing is more crisp and I think that players like Havlat and Versteeg are really going wild with the puck under his direction. A little off topic, but I was reading ESPN the mag and Kaner is interviewed in the back and he said that his teammates call him the doctor. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 08:25 AM) When they were winning big, their recruiting classes were always ranked in the bottom half of the Big Ten. When they did get a stud recruiting class including a ton of supposed 4 and 5 star players from Illinois, most of those guys turned out to be busts. From their most heralded class since Ferentz took over, I believe less than half of them are actually still Hawkeyes, and an even smaller percentage are contributing. I know one thing, if I was an OL and wanted to play in the NFL, Ferentz would be the guy I want to play for. I guess I never noticed this, but I went back and checked the recruiting classes. He seems to be one of those guys who gets the buy in from players that arent as heralded or talented. In the Big Ten there are basically a small portion of top recruiters and the rest of the teams have to be well coached and very organized, and thats were Ferentz seems to flourish. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) Let's see how he does when he isn't playing craptastic, bottom 5 quality pass defenses. I really want to know how an Orton-led offense would've done against the #1 defense in the NFL, and I doubt it would've looked something like 280 yds 3 TDs. I know it's nice to see a QB who doesn't totally suck playing for the Bears but let's be a little objective here. This is in no way, shape, or form an endorsement of Rex Grossman whatsoever. Well, I know Orton wouldnt havent missed wide open receivers like Rex did yesterday, so I assume they would have been better. Its not hard to see that Kyle is on a whole different level than Rex. We were luckly enough to have Forte on the team to keep us in it. There is a strong paralell between the Bears and the Bulls this year. Both team's best players are rookies and look to be one of the only bright spots moving forward. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) First off, their QB and top 2 RBs were out. Second, look at their schedule, they haven't done a lot to brag about and aren't a top 25 team. It's why I bet my entire centsports bankroll on Ohio State lol. It says enough about you to be talking s*** on Northwestern as an Ohio State fan though. First off, only Sutton wasnt available, both QB's were ready. And secondly, what does it say about me exactly? I said pretty much the same thing you said in shorter more direct terms. They havent played anyone, they arent the same team as OSU even though they have identical records and they are welcome for that reality check. You'll know when im actually "talking s***" and it wont be to Northwestern. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 01:18 PM) A few days ago someone challenged me when I pointed out that getting a ton of press coverage for a prospect, i.e. someone coming from Boston or NY, could be an excellent way to make another team think he has higher value. I will hold this as a prime example if that deal happens. Honestly, I like the package that the A's got over some of the ones Ive heard from the Trib. Sean Gallagher is a better spect than Pie, Cedeno, Samaardjissa, and Marshall.

Seriously though, they dont have much ammo for Dye.

Response from Jonah from ESPN.com I want to point one thing out. This is 200000% more of a professional response than I have EVER gotten from Joe Cowley when I write him constructive criticism. Chris DeLuca is generally good as well, but I really liked the overall tone of Jonah's response.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) Not worth the trouble obviously. She's way too easily replaceable. Much easier for them to just call one of the 500 other girls they cut. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) Sounds like Cubs are going to get Peavy this weekend for a package of the ugly Notre Dame guy, Marshall, Pie, and Cedeno. To get one of the 10 best pitchers in baseball (signed long term) for no major pieces in your organization would be a steal. Just an awful package. If I am the Pads, im asking for no less than Giovany Soto as my centerpiece. Pie, Cedeno and Marshall cant even get playing time for the cubs. Samajdjijajia came up, was good for a bit, then showed who he really was. I dont think that kid will be much more than a decent set up guy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 12:54 PM) Stop trying to find us Outfielders! We have 4 not counting Wise and Owens! We're not trading 1 OF to keep having too many OF's! We have zero CF'ers and zero lead off hitters. Filling both would be a GREAT idea actually.
