QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Funny I didn't see mention of this at all on either of the premium boards. Theres only two Michigan boards on the internet? Crazy. I found it on the Wolverine Forum. -
I'm surprised by the lack of talk about the Braves

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) That and Johnson defensively, is, well, bad. If there's anyone from the Braves I'd want, it's Escobar, but I'm not sure how possible that is. Escobar is on his way to the Pads for Peavy. -

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) The lame excuse used in yesterday's trib was that they're struggling because they have to clear the lane for Rose to penetrate and have to settle for jumpers, which is throwing Deng off his game because he cannot slash as he excels in doing that. The truth is they're just not very good and need to work harder instead of making excuses. Deng is especially pissing me off as pax threw so much damn money at him. Rose is the Bulls and the rest need to realize that and adjust accordingly. I think how good Rose looks compared to the rest of these guys speaks volumes. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 02:17 PM) Between Kanny and the AFL, Beckham is 32-100. I'm going to assume he knows what he's doing if he's hitting .320 in his first 100 AB's. The guy is a good hitter, flat out. Scouts sometimes watch so many players that they dont know what they are looking at. Its like the old saying, show me the hottest girl in the world, and I will show you a guy who is sick of her s***. If you stare at something long enough, your mind will amplify any "flaws" you see.

Whoever doesnt sign Tex should be getting a call from KW about Konerko.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) I think they're also going to have to do something about the rapidly rising cost of higher education. Thats a great point Soxy.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 03:14 AM) Oh, you know what I mean... It may be hosted in Texas and run by a guy in California (Jason) but it's a Chicago-based message board. Talkbulls.com, talkbears.com, soxtalk.com... Don't try to pull that bulls***. They're all Chicago-based teams. Im still waiting on how only old black people can be emotionally moved by the events that unfolded on tuesday night.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) The Sox are infamous as an organization that sacrifices velocity for repeatability (is that a word?). They take pitchers, adjust their mechanics, and make them able to sustain control their abilities, instead of throwing at 100% every pitch with no control and potential for injury. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Sox organization has begun to make those changes to Aaron, and he makes it to Chicago throwing 4-5 mph slower than were seeing the scouting reports talk about. That would take his fastball from 99-100 down to 94-95, still not 90 mph. The guy flat out wont throw 90 mph, he just wont, you dont lose 10 mph on your fastball because you are trying to control it now, even though you had good control of it before.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 06:10 AM) Rumors are funny that way. That's not even close to true. That would likely be an embellishment based on this...... Rodriguez had a meeting with the team on either Sunday night or Monday. He told them despite not being bowl eligible their season was not over. he told the seniors it was not time to coast and that underclassmen would be evaluated every day, every practice and what they do now will have an effect on their status for next year (basically everyone is being evaluated now just like they would be in bowl practices). He told the players if they weren't up for this and weren't ready to put forth the same kind of effort every day, then to just not show up on Tuesday. Basically it was a you're either with us or you're not speech. Crazy thing......... There has not been one report of anyone not showing up Tuesday. Aside from some injuries, reports from practice have been very positive. Got anymore good ones???? You should submit a complaint to the Wolverine boards about their rumors and how you think they are stupid. -
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) That's not really what I was saying, but okay... Take my words out of context. It's not like I'm saying "f*** those people!" No, but you ARE saying that only old black people can be emotionally moved by the significance of the election which is downright short sighted. And im not a Democrat.

QUOTE (False Alarm @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) sickels on sox players after his trip to the AFL: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2008/11/4/6...ghts-on-arizona don't like to hear that about beckham but i don't put much stock in it at this stage, especially with the amount of playing time he's getting down there. And how about how inaccurate he is on Poreda's velocity. I would be hugely surprised if he ever throws a fastball 90 mph. And Beckham's swing has been broken down and compared to A-rods, now its choppy? I think he has been listening to too many "scouts" at the local fudruckers.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Poreda has done pretty well but temper the expectations. He lasted 2/3 of an inning in the AFL last night giving up 5 runs. HE MUST NOT HAVE A BAD GAME EVAR!!!! I think people on this site are pretty realistic about what he could be for us.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) I do understand the context of this in history. Hell, just 20 years ago if you had told a black man he could have been president, I don't think he would have believed you, which shows just how far we have come. Maybe I should have been more clear in that the people I'm referring to are the 30ish-looking white guys that were hugging/teary-eyed after Obama was announced as the winner, or the young white woman (maybe late 20's) that was crying as well. What are those people crying for? And that goes the same for if McCain won b/c I'm sure there would have been the same type of people crying, and I would have called them out for it too... As much as I dislike Jesse Jackson, I can understand why he or any middle-age or older black man would be so emotional - they lived through a period of awful hatred/racism in the country, so this is a great thing for them and a continued step in the right direction for race relations in this country. By the way, I shouldn't have said "fool" b/c that's harsh and I didn't really mean to insult you, but I still think it's over the top for a lot of those people they showed crying to be crying. Crying because of human rights, because of how far their country had come. Why do you have to be black to appreciate the historical significance of Obama getting elected? There are plenty of non-african americans that have worked hard for equal rights, worked hard for change, and were overjoyed at seeing their efforts at least somewhat realized. I think you are being VERY short sighted here. It shouldnt be an "us" or "them" view.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) That's what I was thinking. Good WR and DB, sign me up. I would relegate Vasher to nickel status. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:25 AM) Not to belabor the point, but compare the two parties (not political, but actual party) last night. You had McCain's at the Biltmore, which is one of the nicest hotels in Phoenix and comparable to a Four Seasons. Not to mention his crowd which was primarily white, older and male (in that order). Then they show Grant Park. Open to the public, somewhat. A mix of races, cultures, gender, it was amazing to see and the first thing I said to my wife was, "Now THAT'S America." What McCain had at his rally was America in the 1800's, unfortunately. I hope, for their sake, Republicans saw what I saw. Because that's the America of the future (actually, the present). Even the behavior of the crowd was night and day. In Phoenix you had a very subdued crowd even before the results came in, and when they lost the crowd booed Obama. I felt like the crowd in Grant Park was positive from the get go and was very supportive of the comments Obama made about McCain. Even though some people's candidate didnt win (like mine) I think people have to appreciate the feeling that the population finally got off their asses and decided to be heard. The reaction around the world especially in poorer areas was one of hope as well as admiration of the American people. THATS what the US was founded on, and I think that the US will have a better positive energy moving forward.

I started taking grad class in clin Psy and hated the hell out of it. I found out I was going to be stuck in the basement of a building crunching numbers from research that I wasnt even a bit interested in. My focus during undergrad was on children and psychopharm and both beat the hell out of working on SPSS 8 hours a day.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) he's pretty damn slow out there. He covers alot of ground for a guy his size, he is a glider and looks to be extremely slow. I actually thought he had a pretty good year defensively this season.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 03:12 AM) Just want to make a couple points... 2) I'm sorry, but if you cried when Obama was announced as the victor and you weren't on his immediate staff or a family member, that's just ridiculous. All those people crying looked like fools at the Obama rally. I would never have cried if McCain was elected. I understand being happy, but tears of joy are over the top. Not really. There are alot of things that his election means for the country, and I think world opinion on it says it best, we proved why the USA is the leader of the world and that the American dream is still alive.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) Two head coaches stepped down today, Phil Fullmer at Tennessee and Tom Amstutz at Toledo. I think Fullmer needed to go, but Amstutz suprises me. The Rockets have been one of the top MAC programs the last few years. Toledo has been terrible the last few seasons, thats why he had to go. -
I hope he's recruiting Penny to be our 5th starter.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 4, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) KW flat out states that Swisher won't play CF next season. Please KW, don't trade for Luis Castillo or Julio Lugo. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7236960.story I think since KW traded most of his minor league talent for Swish that he wouldnt unload him for crap like that. If he decided to sell on Swish, he should be bringing back a pitcher to replace Javy. I could actually see KW targeting an arm like D Cabrera
