  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) Outside of Illinois and then Bradley and SIU of course, I will be rooting for BC. I love your style of play, your players and how hard they play, and Al Skinner, who IMO is the 2nd most underrated game coach in the nation to Bo Ryan. I actually have BC going a long way, I think they have a chance to make it to the final four IMO.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) Why he even ever committed to Louisville I do not know. He was never going to go in the first place. Good article about it here, I think I know the author :-) http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.d.../602250463/1005 In the documentary it looked like he was going to, until he started blowing up his senior year. Also, I found it interesting that the players had to walk or take the train to games because the school wouldnt give them a bus.
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) There was no "badgering" involved. It was simply an attempt to get an idea of one's situation, when said situation almost certainly influences that person's stance on a particular issue. So maybe he should tell you to divorce your wife, sell your house, leave your children and go back to school so you can have the same view of the situation as he does? Your life is your life, implying that someone needs to be in the same situation as you to be able to see a rational side or an argument is ignorant, especially when you so blindly ignore the immigrant views of the issue.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) As soon as I posted this, I thought of Fields. This is a huge year for him. He still needs to make his swing more compact. I'm hoping he can hit 25+ homers this season. It looks to me like he has tinkered with his swing a bit and it looked a little more compact the ST as compared to other times I''ve seen him. His footwork needs some work, but I like the way hes progressing for sure.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) I'd say right now that Sweeney is the one guy in our minors who I'm sure will make it as a starter in the big leagues. Owens, in my opinion, is nothing special as a MLB prospect. Sure, he has the tools that Ozzie wants in the player.....but so do guys like Endy Chavez, etc. I still can't understand why we took Broadway over Carrillo. The one thing I love about KW now is that he's going to do his best to put a winner on the field THIS YEAR. Too many GMs try to build for the future, and three or four years later, they're fired. KW overlooked our bullpen this offseason. However, I'm confident he'll do his best to get another big league arm. IM surprised nobody mentioned Fields as a possibility. I think he has the skill set to make it, just needs more polish. Also, Broadway at this point looks like an iffy pick, and Carrillo should have been the choice IMO.
  6. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) And you can put yet another misunderstanding on the board, YEEEEE-ES!!! I always figured that dudes who spit in other people's drinks were trailer park trash, but I could be wrong about that. I'm just having a little fun with you, man. Settle down. Bulls***, you have made it your personal mission to constantly bring up myself and kyle every chance you get. Be a man and get over it already.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) For example, where would the Cardinals be if they had traded away their 13th round selection from 1999? What did they do with the other picks before that one?
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Pedro tossing Zimmer's head to the ground. Have you seen that SNL skit?
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) Did I not answer this? AT THE TIME, those players weren't regarded as scraps. Just as in the future, a package likely won't be involving scraps based on our projections of the players potential. Yes, well at the time, I thought that Garcia was worth more than prospects, especially Olivo and Morse. Reed was the only player worth anything to me, and Garcia heavily outweighed Reed in terms of value. Thats where we disagree. I thought the trade was fair when it went down, and a steal now. I value proven ML'ers more than "potential" any day of the week.
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:16 PM) For Garcia. It worked out for us, I can't disagree with that. I'm saying at the moment the trade was approved, I don't know many who looked at the package provided for Garcia and were happy. Did Williams know Morse would be average, Reed an Aaron Rowand clone, and Olivo a free-swinging pile of crap? Did he predict a huge shift in the offseason market for pitchers? Trades often are best assessed over a long period, as we've witnessed with the Garcia trade. Williams is a smart general manager, but he's not a genius. Only Beane holds that title. I'm merely suggesting for a trade to occur which gives our club a pitcher of Garcia's caliber, we'll again have to overpay based on our analysis of players at that particular moment. So tell me how trading a starting Cf'er and two scraps overpaying for a top of the rotation starter? You still havent cleared that up for me. I was happy when the trade was announced, pitching is a premium, especially with our needs that season. We didnt need Reed, or Morse, or Olivo.
  11. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Dude, Rock grew up in a trailer park. Don't worry about it. And yes, I am pretty sure that Kyle was attacking you on a personal level. Are you just gonna sit there and take it? First of all, he was quoting soxfan101, secondly, why bring up my name at all in that fashion, even if it was in green?
  12. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Our method will be, once again, trading prospects midseason to a contender and drastically overpaying. When did this occur????
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) What's comical to me is the alledged race for the second lefty reliever role. How do you base anything on 4 or 5 innings of spring training success? I don't think they have anybody vying for this role who would be remotely better in 2006 than Kevin Walker was in 2005. I honestly beleive that Boone Logan is better than Walker. That guy was fill in.
  14. Nice spoilers. I hope some of that doesnt come true. The hanging scene was amazing TV IMO. It made you feel uncomfortable, which is exactly what it was supposed to do. I love this show.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) Well, the one nice thing about prospects, and the one reason to consider getting attached to them...is that if you find one of them that works, suddenly you have a starting position filled for $400k a year for 3-4 years, and for just a couple million a year in the few years after that...which lets you do insane things like giving Mark Buehrle the contract he so sorely deserves, etc. 1 out of how many? Right now you have BMAC, Anderson, Sweeney, Fields, Owens etc A couple out of many that didnt work out. For the majority, prospects are just trade bait.
  16. When he was limping around the bases for us this year he "felt no pain".
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) yes finally you have come over to my side You know it. Getting attached to prospects is ridiculous. We should only develop them to trade a majority for proven ML'ers
  18. QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Well I disagree, They will be looking today for a reliever. They are on the phones now. I sure hope they are. There is also no reason that Casey Rogowski shouldnt be traded soon.
  19. QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) Illini a 2 seed here? I can only hope
  20. There was so much hype following EL that washington decided to overpay for a #2 receiver AT BEST. Not a great signing by them IMO.
  21. Good arguments BTW. I see it like this: The only real guarantee that you are getting a good player, is by trading prospects for them. Prospects pan out barely ever, and they are still overvalued.
  22. QUOTE(SouthPaw @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) Man I have a feeling Jim Thome is going to be incredible this year. I agree man, his at bats have looked awesome to me. Watch the difference between him a Borchard, and observe who sees the pitch better going to the glove. its night and day.
  23. QUOTE(zach61 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) This has nothing to do with mexicans. I have a problem with anybody being here illegally. As for what they do for me, it isn't much. I bring my own lunch, and the bathrooms aren't very clean. We used to clean the bathrooms ourselves at the other places I worked and we kept them cleaner. I don't get the sidewalk one, but I'm assuming you're claiming that they are kept clean? You should check out what they do in the park by my house. One lady had her kid take a dump in a bucket and then emptied it in the river. There were bathrooms about 100 ft away. They throw garbage in the river and on the ground all day and when you say something to them, the answer is "I don't care. I don't live here." So as far as I can see, not much benefit. They can follow the process and come here legally. Im sorry you live by such a s*** hole. Here in chicago where I live, its not the case. Every restaurant or bar I go to, most of the kitchen staff are from mexico. All of the bars ive worked in, the bar backs and staff are mexican. They are really great guys IMO, just trying to earn a living, working hard for the money.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) You would have spit? WTF?!?! Jesus f***ing christ dude. Uh yeah, whats so wrong with that. As a kid, you do some dumb and childish things. Whats your deal?
