  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) Jenks had his velocity and almost blew it... Back in 07, Bobby was one of the best closers in baseball. He's taken a real long dive since then. You mean like in 2008 when he had a 2.63 ERA and a WHIP of 1.10. Damn what a nosedive. It's like you cant even google anything to make a crappy point.
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 06:52 AM) Bobby pretty much blew the save in the last Twins game. He got bailed out my a terrrible choice by the Twins 3rd base coauch. I find Rock Raines confidence in a closer that's been showing signs of regression for years and is putting too many men on base to be more alarming then it is charming. LOL regression "for years" 5 years in the majors, 3 sub 3 ERA's as recent as 2008. Where is the regression?
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) Bobby's not going to get away with allowing multiple baserunners everytime out. No matter how nasty you think his stuff is. He wont, but he will allow some once in awhile and the games where they dont turn into runs are great for him. In a good season he will allow around a baserunner an inning if not more.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) He was throwing 93. He didn't have the velocity he did yesterday and he didn't have the curve. When he has neither enough velocity on the fastball or the curve, he makes all of very nervous. Jenks has a WHIP around 2 I imagine, that's pretty damn bad for a reliever. Too bad he would never end up with a WHIP around 2. But he may end up with an ERA of 2.25. BTW his WHIP is 1.67 and at its highest in his worst year he was at 1.39. He has had a sub 3 ERA 3 out of his 5 seasons. You continue to worry about things that make no sense, and Bobby will continue to be a very good closer.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) The two walks is really bad. Pfff, are you kidding me? I suspect you think all hitters should hit 1.000. Bobby had excellent stuff and was getting squeezed. That last pitch sequence was f***ing nasty.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) What we learned: 1. Jones can still hit and should start more than Kotsay. 2. Teahen is not dead 3. Randy Williams should not be put into big situations. 4. Bobby Jenks is becoming a terrible closer. 5. Jake Peavy may be hurt or maybe it was just a really bad day. It was great to win here for the first time in two years, but I think we might have learned something really, really bad. Jenks 1.0 IP 0H 2BB 1k sv 2.25 ERA Terrible huh?
  7. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) I'm sorry, Jenks does not have closer stuff IMO. I've been watching this for quite a while now, and he just can't dominate hitters anymore. That ball Gonzales hit was a rocket. But more importantly, does the stuff he's featuring look all that impressive to you people? Now Thornton can dominate, and even Santos' stuff appears to be really almost unhittable. But Bobby doesn't have the velocity, or movement to be a dominate closer. If he keeps throwing like this, I would guess that opposing teams will make the last inning of an awful lot of games very anxiety ridden for many of us. That change looked almost Hoffman-esque to me. Nasty. His fastball was cutting too much, thats why his command was so bad. Not sure what closer stuff is then.
  8. Well, I guess that point could be moot with McCamey declaring.
  9. He must be injured, not be able to pitch in the AL, or is on steroids. Call off the season and his contract, pack it in boys.
  10. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) 16 million a year? Are you serious? I thought the only thing you didnt like was Rios's contract? Peavy will be fine. The only person more upset about his performance than us is Jake himself.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) I'm really not sold on that. The scouts were just bashing his stuff this Spring (not just what we heard in the press). It wasn't his fastball they were worried about, but rather his slider was being thrown at a different plane. I really do hope it works out for him in Chicago though, so by no means am I giving up on him yet. Yes, all of a sudden he's terrible. I havent see anything from a real scout on that at all. And now the booing is getting ridiculous. They boo everything there? I have a feeling they are booing the vendors when they get their change back.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) Peavy will be fine, he's just not used to pitching in the cold. Or he will be fine because he's one of the best pitchers in major league baseball. But, lets ignore actual reality for a second.....
  13. I dont understand the booing of Rios, its lot like he left for more money or something, he got traded.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) Ya, for a while it sounded like they were all going to stay and now it sounds like some guys have re-opened there committments and losing Fuller will be huge. Wow, thats a big loss.

    Grillin'!

Charcoal is better for those long BBQ's. If you are going to go outside and grill up a couple of pieces of fish or chicken for your dinner, gas is perfect.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) GMAFB. I explained why I think Illinois should be better than last year. I clearly stated it was all about them reaching their potential. Is it really that much of a stretch to say that Illinois at its peak isn't capable of being in the top 3 of the big ten? You're insane. The top 3-4 teams in the league aren't that far apart. And if all of the teams in the conference play to their potential, I dont see Illinois being better than OSU and Wisconsin. I also dont think they underperformed this season like most of Ill fans do, I think they ended up about right where they belonged with their talent level.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) No, they aren't. McCamey was 2nd in the country in assists with a terrific a/to ratio. Buford wasn't nearly as dynamic, hence why he sat on the Big Ten's 3rd team while McCamey was on the 1st, finishing with the 2nd most votes. You could argue other players, but certainly not Buford. Argue other players on OSU? I dont get your point. Your original statement was that OSU doesnt have anyone in the same league at McCamey which is why Illinois will be a better team next season, I am still trying to figure out where his league starts and how far someone like Buford who is already out pacing McCamey's numbers as their careers develop has to go to get in that league.
  18. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) Just be sure you are there to shove it in my face when we come back and win the division. It's not my fault KW made terrible moves this offseason and last year. No matter what moves he made, you still wouldnt like them. Thats how you cheer for the Sox, you criticize.
  19. QUOTE (Stocking @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) Wasnt a broken bat busted on the inside, it was off the end of the bat and solidly went up the middle two hopped to rios. He broke his bat because he hit it off the very end.
  20. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) Rock, I still feel the exact same way. We have 4 HUGE holes in our lineup. HUGE. And the Twins and Tigers are going to win a ton of games, so just being mediocre ain't gonna cut it. We know you're a miserable fan, nothing outside of a WS title clinching game is going to change that. It's just funny how quickly you proclaim the game and season over.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) ??? I'm not sure what you mean. McCamey was clearly better no matter what measure you use. Yeah he was better, but I want you to explain this "other league" that he is in compared to anyone on OSU. Based on actual statistics they are very close players already, so I'm not sure what makes McCamey a player on a whole different level besides the fact he plays for ILL.
  22. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Game ovah. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) So is there even any point to start selling with all the money we have invested? Nobody is gonna want RIos, but we can prolly get something decent from Peavy before he has too many starts in the AL QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 01:16 PM) Blow it up and trade everybody. Let's restock the farm system.
  23. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) I don't think Bobby looked bad at all. I agree with the comment above that said the problem was bad pitch selection to Thome. Other than that, I thought he looked pretty good. Love to see the 96mph heater this early in the season. That's a good sign IMO. Its no unusual to see a changeup used against a left handed hitter vs a curve thrown by a righty. Of course Bobby had zero control with his change and they prob should have gone to the curve.
  24. QUOTE (Stocking @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) did you see that blooped single? was extremely solid if thats a bloop line drive right up the middle. It bounced about 13 times before it go to Rios, and it was a broken bat.
  25. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Rod Beck, Todd Jones, and Bob Wickman say hello Mariano Rivera says hello as well, since he's done it too. Turns out there are no perfect players in baseball.
