QUOTE (Cubano @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) You guys know more about the Chi Sox than I do. Is that Salmon guy good? What is his velocity? no, hes not good...hes a 29 year old career minor leaguer....was on the major league club for the reds for like 20 games in 07...but was in AAA for the royals all last year...i have no idea as to what he throws...but I can say with almost 100% certainty that he will either be cut from the organization entirely or will be just a another bullpen arm in AAA for a year

also Charlie had to be the one who told Hurley to get on the plane, right? when Jack asks him how he knew, hurley wouldnt say....also the guitar he brought with certainly must mean something
-
also...we never found out how Jacks dad actually dies, do we? There are so many questions I have. When watching I actually considered writing them all down as I went along, and answering them as we find out. The brilliant part about the show is that there are so many questions, that span such a long time frame that we forget about them. That way when they are answered you definitely get that "holy s***" moment btw...sorry for proposing all these questions, but watching them now, I've wanted to to ask these, and wanted to read this thread for so long but wouldn't let myself til I got caught up. Also I've wanted to search Lost-pedia or any other page, but you really can't til you are caught up because you can't stumble upon something that you haven't yet seen

finally caught up watching em all on abc.com....if i have to see that damn comcast comercial with the "more more more" song I'm gonna pull a Mr. Ecko first seeing Jin and other raft survivors on someone.... A few things I thought of....is it safe to assume that the raft/boat thingy that Sawyer Juliet and co. steal belongs to the people on the flight to Guam, since the airline water was found there? If so, then who would be trying to shoot at them as they paddled away. The plane scene reminded me of another mystery that I don't think has been solved yet....what was the favor Kate was going to ask the Marshall when the plane was going down? Kate asked it as if she almost knew the plane was about to crash. So Jack never found his dad's body in the casket, I assume the same thing will happen with Locke and he will be reincarnated, as some sort of conduit to Jacob. What did happen to Aaron. More importantly, what did ever happen to Claire??? Her story is way too fishy to just ignore and not come back to at some point. She is blown up by some sort of RPG, survives relatively unscathed, runs off in the middle of the night leaving her baby, leading some to believe that she was actually dead. But the most we ever get out of sawyer is "Shes gone." Then she appears in the cabin with Christian talking to Locke. She has to be revisited soon...and I think it will have something to do with the Psychic who told her she had to raise her baby. (or could the psychic have known that the couple in LA ...the good people who were going to adopt her baby...were actaully Kate and Jack?) What was with the temple from an episode or so before? Had we seen it before? Rousseau's teammate loses his arm, and then aftera flash the arm is still there seemingly several years later. So does that mean the temple had been untouched for that long? I love the Faraday character...I keep waiting for him to ask if he can bring his typewrighter along with...only to look over and see Tom Hanks holding up a pencil. We know for sure that Charlotte was on the island as a little girl, and a "man" (Daniel) told her to never come back. Well Faraday seems to never age either. If he was old when charlotte was a kid, he appeared to be the same age when he was working on the Orchid, and was the same age when Desmond visits him, and presently on the island. Is he using time travel? Or is he like Richard? Or is Richard also using time travel?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 05:22 AM) Can you prove this? I'll take any form of statistical proof, any. I'll even take splits stats even if they are unreliable. It's funny because a lot of very smart baseball people are of the belief that there is no such thing as a "clutch" hitter, just good hitters who do good things in big situations because they're good but even when a Sabermetrician like Bill James or Nate Silver attempts to quantify "clutch hitting" Joe Crede's name NEVER comes up. I've seen Mike Sweeney (the perpetually injured) and Chipper Jones (the great) and even Geoff Jenkins (the average) but never Joe Crede. The only people who seem to believe that he's anything more than a mediocre offensive player are Sox fans and Hawk but none of these people ever bother to back up this belief, just perpetuate it as fact. I've mentioned this in the past and no one has ever bothered to acknowledge it, could it be that the man has just come through in a few very memorable "clutch" situations and this has berthed an undeserved reputation? (it would hardly be the first time) Oh and his 0.5 BB/K and .267/.325/.435/.760 career line against relief pitching hardly scares me, Linebrink and Dotel will handle him just fine. Yeah, I know it's blasphemy but I'm not fearing the crippled, pull hitting, popup machine. Just looking now, Bill James has him down for 302 AB, 14 HR, 0.5 BB/K, .255/.312/.447/.759 next year. Look out. i agree with you kalapse, but you should know by now that on this site trying to cite intelligent statistics that have their foundations in years upon years of statistical analysis will always be met with the "did you watch those games?" and "those stats are meaningless" type responses. but you are right

i will be extraordinarily disappointed in our team if we dont feed him breaking ball low and away after breaking ball low and away when we face him

bah...miller and salmons not playing tonight....sacramento is still awaiting physicals from the guys the bulls sent

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) DeWitt moves down to AAA, O-Dawg slides into 2B, and they can still sign Manny. Excellent deal for the Dodgers. Hudson gives them the best defensive 2bman they've had in years, and he'll give them an excellent top of the order hitter. id wait to see how much money they gave hudson, before id call the deal excellent....especially considering they gave up a pretty high draft pick

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 08:05 PM) It should be. Their best player is best in the open court and pentrating. An up tempo game suits him. one thing that I do like is that we can basically play two different styles with out rotations now...miller and thomas will help us in the halfcourt game for sure, and if we want to get out and run with tyrus and noah are still there
-
so right now our depth chart looks like... PG Rose/Hinrich/Hunter SG Gordon/Roberson SF Deng/Salmons PF Thomas/Thomas C Miller/Noah/Gray

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 19, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) The Cubs should win the central, but it won't be the walk in the park their fans think it's going to be. I would worry about the bullpen, Harden isn't healthy, and Ryan Dempster will go back to being a league average pitcher. who in that division is going to compete with them? Watch every single Cardinals pitcher return to being below league average as well. The brewers lost their 2 aces that carried them into the playoffs. The pirates are the pirates. the astros stink and have absolutely 0 help on the horizon from the minors. The reds are managed by Dusty Baker. The cubs win that division by 12 games if you ask me.

part of it is because he was a starter on probably the worst team in the NBA...but its certainly more than worth noting that John Salmons is dead last in the NBA in +/- at -402......worst on the bulls is Thabo at -87...I am concerned about Rose being 3rd worst on our team at -79...interestingly enough, the guy we are sending (nocioni) is highest on our team at +90

love wings.....hooters are great...if anyone is ever in Nashville WingBasket - Kentucky Bourbon wings are certainly the best non-hot sauce wing ive ever had...they make a good garlic parmesan as well....I am going to have to try some of those places you guys recommended...but like many before here have said...hot, mild, breaded, not breaded, sweet, savory...all are pretty good for homemade wings...I wrote about this in the superbowl food thread, but I made some of the wings that Alton Brown did on Good Eats...they were kind of a pain to make as you cook them twice (steam then bake) but definitely healthier than deep frying (and if you don't have a deep fryer like most, probably just as easy as heating some oil on the stove) and they came out just as crispy. EDIT: oh and though I said i am a fan of all types of wings...i actually didnt fall in love with the asian orange glaze sauce Alton made...id stick to his hot sauce instead

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) Anyone else a fan of Len Kasper? Great knowledge, decent storyteller, good personality, the guy's damn good at his job. I think he and Stoney would actually make a good team., although they'd have to split Play by Play/Color. Kaspers a solid announcer, but I have really started to hate him....cub fans love to rip hawk for being a homer, but Kasper is every bit the homer Hawk is...can't stand the squeeky dumbass voice he does when he says "and its a goner!" or the stupid "cubs win"...hit puberty already Len.....he is fairly knowledgable and if he was a sox announcer i admit, I would probably like him, but I just can't stand the over the top cubness that he emanates

QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) I dunno, the pictures I saw of him did nothing to suggest to me that this kid was fat.. he looked extremely built and ripped. Who knows. he's not fat...but hes big...when you see him with baseball pants on, youll see he's got some cushion over his muscle...like i said..from what i've seen of him..its not a problem now, and if he stays this size it won't be..but as guys age they pack some lbs on it could be a problem....of course, that also might not happen until well after he has played out his contract with us
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) That would put the Bulls at $35 million committed to 6 players in the 2010 offseason. They could potentially offer a max deal and still offer someone else $8-$10 million, depending on what the cap does by then. these rumors have me absolutely convinced we will go big in that offseason...we are posturing along with the knicks...Hell we could go after lebron...if we have Rose, money to go after lebron, + 8-10 mil, lebron just might think that this is the best place for him...man that would be sweet
-
i heard someone say it was like a $150,000 car....either way I saw a clip of him in a uniform w/jacket on over on comcast....he's definitely a big boy and at 19 hes weight will certainly have to be monitored...if this is the "in shape version" of him his weight will be a big issue in his career...not a deal breaker or anything that can't be dealt with...but if he gets bigger it will be a problem in the future as he ages
-
163 was easily the best game I've been to....also topping that list would be 162, AJ's walkoff vs. Dodgers in 05, AJ vs. Barrett fight, Sox vs. Angels in 2000 when we were down 8-2 in the 7th and came back to win in the ninth, Carlton Fisk night/ceremony when he got the motorcycle in 1993. also...it wasn't notable and he certainly wasn't beloved....but it was cool to be at Mike Jackson's 1000th game, because even still there aren't a whole lot of guys who have done that...only a dozen or so In terms of favorite overall moments though....Games 4 of WS was unreal...game 2 was a close second...163 probably falls here....AJ drop third was great, The el duque performace...the 4th straight CG...hell even game 1 vs. boston when we came out and just trounced em was awesome...The Lee GS, the valentin HR where he did the Sosa kiss, the AJ slam off of dempster

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Soriano really should lead off for them, as he's too much of a mental midget to bat elsewhere. I'm going to try and not take every Cubs game so hard this season if they win, as they have to be about 90 percent likely to win the NL Central. Instead, I'll be rooting for other things that could mess them up over the course of the season. last year was tough though...for like 2 straight months that team came back in every single game they played in...even when they were down big they came back and at least made a game of it...those games were so frustrating to watch...and I agree on your earlier sentiment ....in fact I think we should disallow people from coming in here to post the inevitable "why do you guys care so much about the cubs" posts
-
AKA the place for me and fathom to complain about how bad the NL is compared to the AL seriously though....i liked this thread last year and thought i'd start a new one this year For some reason every year, the cubs worry about the leadoff spot more than any other team (maybe the have no other holes to fill in i guess). I'm not sure why they would even hesitate to put Theriot in there...he walks more than he strikes out, and will steal between 25-30 bases. While he doesn't hit for any power whatsoever, he will be on base alot for their big hitters

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Personally I think Miller is a much better solution in the paint for the Bulls than the black hole that is Drew Gooden. As you said Miller is a better defender and a bigger body but he is also a much better passer and I feel more comfortable giving him significant minutes than I did Gooden. i'll agree to that....especially given that miller is healthy while gooden may not play the rest of the year...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Derrick Rose is the #2 on a horrible team... are we really sitting here comparing john f***ing salmons to derrick rose and ben Gordon? Salmons is a 30 year old journey man whos increased PPG is largely due to an enormous spike in 3p% over his career averages (largely suggesting luck), and has never been a solid starter for an entire year in the NBA til he got an just a dreadfully bad Kings team this year
-
QUOTE (rangercal @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Gordon would be the clear #2 option on the Kings too. So what's your point? How you just compared Salmons to Larry Hughes is beyond me. Salmons actually makes his shots. My point is that Salmons ppg are so inflated because he is the #2 on a horrible team. There isn't another team in the league that he would be a #2 on.....Youre right, Salmons has an impressive FG %, much better than Hughes..I should have been more clear, my point in comparing him to hughes was defensively where the previous poster was saying that hes a legit 6-6 and a better defender than gordon (saying anyone is a better defender than gordon is also like saying someone is better looking than rosie odonell)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) Now that I've looked through the 2010 cap numbers, I think you're probably right. yes, this deal is all about 2011 and beyond. For the future its a good trade because it means we are gonna make a run at someone. I doubt it makes this team all that much better this year. Will we make the playoffs? maybe, but we have been playing much better lately and who is to say we wouldn't have without this trade.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) Gordon: 20.4 ppg Salmons 18.3 ppg Gordon: .450 FG% Salmons: .472 FG% Gordon: .417 3PT% Salmons: .418 3PT% Salmons is also a legit 6'6 and plays better defense than Gordon. No one is proclaiming that we're gonna make the Finals because of this deal, but we certainly improve our team NOW and help our cap situation in the future. Salmons averages 8.4 ppg for his career. He is the clear #2 option on the Kings. I'll be willing to bet if Gordon were on the Kings hed score 25 ppg. I'd also be willing to bet that Salmons scores in the area of 12-13 per game for the bulls from here on out. The bulls already have John Salmons sitting on the bench and his name is Larry Hughes. He's another guy, thats it, and I'm sick of the bulls always trading for just another guy
