  1. why didn't the yankees offer abreu arbitration? good for us should we land him btw abreu hits lefties pretty well....292/.370/.432 over the last three years
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 12:50 PM) Sorry, I was talking about Ricky Williams hey cedric benson played minor league baseball for the dodgers for year
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) I would guess this slugger was a football prospect at University of Texas that would be awesome...especially if you can get him for more than 1 year and he can be thome's eventual replacement at DH....dye would certainly be traded though, as you could maybe try to live with dunn in lf for a year and TCQ would make the switch to right
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Some have Dunn ONLY getting $5 million. Anything is possible...Wigginton got desperate and signed recently, coming off a good season. What I would love to see: 1) Trade Dye for young pitching (Angels/Reds, etc.) 2) Sign Abreu for two years at $15-18 million (convince him that lower money for this year will allow them to sign O-Dog) 3) Sign Orlando Hudson for one year at around $5 million and stick him in CF as the leadoff hitter. Or start him at 2B and play Lillibridge/Anderson in CF as the 9th place hitter. Dump Owens/Wise from everyday line-up consideration. (This also allows Beckham to make an impact in 2010 at either SS but more likely 2B). This allows the White Sox to stay payroll neutral, address CF/leadoff, add two quality veterans AND a young starting pitcher with upside like Bailey or Adenhart with no pressure for them to produce in 2009. forget hudson...he's gonna cost a first round draft pick...something KW certainly isn't going to do...plus i think the organization feels strongly enough that the guys that we have there can produce at level to which the 5 mil for hudson plus draft pick isn't worth it
  5. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 11:10 AM) Mully/Hanley on the Score are speculating Figgins for Dye if Abreu is signed. I would like to think the Sox could get more then just Figgins for Dye. can Chone play CF? I think he probably can... Figgins CF Abreu RF Quentin LF (maybe swap LF and RF) Thome DH Konerko 1b Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Fields 3b Getz 2b sounds pretty good to me...but frankly i think if we trade dye it is going to be for young pitching
  6. I think a guy that I haven't given enough thought to, and alot of people here haven't either, is Jayson Nix at 2b. His numbers at AAA were great last year (granted he was 25-26), certainly better than the awful ones Lillibridge put up. I know lillibridge is more versatile and quicker, but I think Nix sees alot of time vs. lefties for this team.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) Can a mod pin this? If in the next few weeks the thread doesn't appear to be very active it can always be unpinned. I'll start off by saying I have now flip-flopped in what area (originally wanted an O-lineman) I want the Bears to address with their first pick. I believe upgrading the defensive line (I could, of course, change my stance on this every other day) is priority #1. Looks like at least one of Everette Brown from FSU, Tyson Jackson from LSU, and Aaron Maybin from PSU will be available at #18. I'd be fine with any one of these three guys. no doubt. I know people love alex brown, and he ended up with a decent amount of sacks...but he and ogunleye just aren't the disrupters that they used to be. Our defense is absolutely predicated on getting pressure from the front four, and the last year or two it just didn't happen. Anderson regressed, Brown and Ogun are showing their age. I think if Tommie is healthy he will be better, but we need a pass rushing DE more than anything IMO
  8. maybe with manny turning down 25 million, the dodgers are now willing to trade for dye?
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 10:31 AM) Wow. I assume Abreu can't play CF, right? Therefore, this means someone is about to get traded? yeah this is very interesting....abreu would be a great #2 hitter IMO...someone would have to be moved though...maybe this is an old report that has just surfaced now, or maybe KW has a trade for dye on the table
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Iam sure someone from Vandy. I will put money on it. haha i actually think its a possibility .... though probably slim If the organization really wants to move peanut to FS and with Vashers status in doubt they could be looking for a CB...DJ Moore projects to go somewhere in the early 20s...but I think the bears will go with position of greater need, and also I think moore doesn't really fit as a Cover 2 CB...not physical enough I do think a guy I would absolutely love the bears to target in the later rounds (5th ish) is a safety from Vandy...reshard Langford...He's a perfect cover 2, bears type Safety...big hitter, ball hawk type guy who makes big plays The biggest needs for this team are S, DE, WR, and Oline help...oh and QB of course. I don't think Oline is the most pressing need, so I think they will wait (especially since OG don't go early) til later rounds. Safety is so weak this year I think they actually might try to get by with what they have. So most likely I think they will go DE or WR depending on whats there. At this point names are too difficult to tell, but those are the positions i think they will target. If sanchez is there I would love him, big time arm, accurate, mobile, can make all the throws. A position nobody mentions is Strong side LB...production there was horrible last year. Cushing would look good, but again, there are bigger needs probably.
  11. im surprised at alot of the expectations for Viciedo....I guess its hard for me to get excited over a guy who i've never seen before, or have real stats on...especially when there are some doubts surrounding him. I'm much more excited about Beckham and Flowers...specifically Beckham, as i've seen him play probably a dozen times in person over the last 4 years and I think the guy has a chance to be a nomar garciaparra/michael young type ball player
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Oliver Perez tentatively back to the Mets, 3/$36. I wouldn't have given that amount of money to Perez when the economy was strong, let alone now when it looks like you can get decent players cheaply....I really think Omar Minaya is a below average GM
  13. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) +1 Even if the kid was 16/17 last year, he should have actually done something in rookie ball if he had any talent whatsoever. Didn't the Sox give him like $600K? Look at what Wilmer Flores did for the Mets last year, or what Carlos Triunfel did in his rookie season, or what Elvis Andrus did in his rookie season. All three of those guys were 16 or 17 year old shortstops signed out of Latin America and given big bonuses. When you get a bonus that size you're supposed to be able to hit f***ing rookie league pitching. s***, if you're organizational fodder drafted out of college meant to fill a roster, you're still expected to hit rookie league pitching to at least some degree. .228/.265/.321 means probably translates to about .250/.300/.350 in the DSL for f***'s sake. The "man-child" is really a man and hopefully the last mistake that prick asshole cocksucker Wilder made. BTW, this list f***ing sucks. How is Allen a 4-star prospect and Viciedo a 3? If Allen is a 4, then Viciedo is a 6. Allen should be a 3 and Viciedo should be a 5. A bat like that at 3B with supposedly great arm strength and average-to-above average defensive potential is a 5-star 'spect. I could *see* making Viciedo a 4-star prospect because the BA has never seen him, but if BA is only ranking people on what they've seen, then there's no way Shelby is listed as a CF, there's no way Allen is listed as a 4-star prospect, and there's no freaking way Silverio makes this list. And there's no way Poreda with his one pitch ranks at 4 stars based on ceiling while Richard with his 2 pitches and MLB readiness only ranks as a 2. If we're going based on ceiling, then Richard's ceiling as a #4/5 starter or above average lefty setup man is worth 3 stars. In short, BA = trash. Law and Callis' rankings are much, much more accurate, and say what you want about them, but at least these guys aren't making rankings based off organizational hype only from a year ago. Some douche at BA opened the White Sox file cabinet and pulled out a sheet of paper that had some scribbled Dave Wilder hype on it and then decided to use that as a base for a list. Garbage. I'm actually shocked Broadway didn't make this list as bad as it is. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) You do realize that this list was put together by Baseball Prospectus, not Baseball America? even more so, do you realize that Jim Callis is the executive editor of baseball america? BTW the douche that does some work for baseball america that Wilder supposedly gave the bad info to was Phil Rogers. also do you realize baseball prospectus is a sabermetric and statistical based website, that could care less about Dave Wilder when putting together a list? While I agree that Viciedo is probably better than a three star prospect, I haven't, and I suspect you have never seen the kid play (short of a few 30 second you tube clips). BP probably hasn't seen much of him, and I know they have very little statistical data to use, so it wouldn't seem prudent to me to give a guy 5 or 6 stars based solely on the value of his signing bonus. The ranking that actually surprises me most is that Flowers isn't ranked higher.
  14. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) Hawk been hitting the tanning bed? Mercy. hawk must spend a ridiculous amount of time in the sun...im sure its from playing golf alot and whatnot, but during the broadcasts when they show him holding the microphone...take a look at his arms. They are so leathery and sun damaged looking, it is really unhealthy.
  15. Getz 2b (except for last year in the minors, when he started to hit for more power, he has always had more BB than Ks) Fields 3b (I hate AJ here, if Alexei didn't swing at everything I'd go with him, Fields is best option) Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1b Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Anderson CF I just don't understand the rhetoric that comes out of the mouths of the people in charge. One minute they say we don't need a traditional leadoff hitter, but a guy who gets on base...which leads me to think Getz, which as stated above is what I want. Then all you ever hear about is Jerry Owens solves CF and leadoff. If Owens can put up an obp near .350, then I'm fine with him in the lineup. If anderson can give you a .330 obp and hit 20 Hr, id rather have him and his D in the lineup. Unfortunately I don't really have faith in either to do so. If lillibridge can put up a .340 obp (which i doubt since he didn't even break .300 at AAA last year) than I would put him at SS and alexei in CF. Either way, I am fine with our 3b situation, and our 2b situation. I feel confident enough in Fields and Getz, but I'm really disappointed KW didnt do something to address the CF situation. I know I'm one of few, but Swisher sure wouldn't look too bad playing CF (his D was adequate), getting on base, and seeing more pitches than any other player in the league in the #2 spot.
  16. i wouldn't...beckham is the safer pick IMO, but vitters has the higher upside....Vitters has big time power potential...all those doubles should turn into HR as he ages...but if i was a cub fan, id be nervous of the fact that he has only 16 walks in 324 minor league ABs....Beckham is farther along, will be in the majors quicker, and probably is more of a sure thing than vitters, and at a position we have far less depth at.

QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) Beer, Yes I made it myself...have a brown, amber, wit, and german wheat to add the the mix mmm that sounds awesome im gonna do some homemade wings...got the recipe and process from alton browns "good eats"...i trust him with basically anything, but i just did a test run and damn they are good....you don't have to fry em, they are baked, so much healthier (though not completely healthy), yet still really crisp and tasty... http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/good-ea...cipe/index.html i'll probably experiment a bit with sauces but he had an asian orange glaze that looked phenomenal http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/good-ea...cipe/index.html
  18. the fact that this article was even written is a bad sign IMO...from what I had thought linebrink was back to being healthy at the end of the year, but still sucked because he was getting his feet back under him without a rehab stint...the guy better be ready to freaking pitch...hes had all offseason, and its not like he had surgery or something
  19. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Convenient?? I didnt know pennant chases were convenient. Nobody on our team was hitting after CQ's dumbass injury except for Wise. I'm not saying he is the fastest foot for CF. But at least he is an veteran that understands and knows how to play the game. He is a baseball player, something Owens clearly is not. actually i think a guy getting hot during a pennant race is the exact definition of covenient
  20. QUOTE (forrestg @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:53 PM) Not one mention of Betemit? to play where SS? I don't think betemit is a viable option to play SS everyday defensively, it would be nice if he was though. I guess I just assumed that Betemit is going to serve as the Alex Cintron role on this team.
  21. "the first scissor cut into a fresh piece of construction paper"
  22. the best thing for this team may be to have alexei in CF, and lillibridge at SS.....that way we dont have to deal with owens, wise... ozzie gets his fast leadoff hitter, and we get a good SS...whereas defensive metrics would suggest alexei is not a real good IFer....though a big question would be how well defensively Alexei would do in CF

    Superbowl Food

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) I just saw this recipe and now its a must for the superbowl, The Bacon Explosion. http://www.bbqaddicts.com/blog/recipes/bacon-explosion/ my cousin told me once that he knows someone who cooks up like 2 lbs of bacon as an appetizer at parties....everyone always looks at him weird and laughs at him when he does it...but the plate is always, always, always empty and everyone loves it...i think its genius btw that link doesn't work, but i saw it posted on yahoo earlier
  24. i liked juan, but am glad he is gone...he's horrid offensively...though he does have value in his glove...he played the best SS in chicago i've seen...including ozzie, royce clayton and valentin....either way, that last inning of the WS will never be forgotten, and even if don't want him on this years team, its always a little sad seeing a member of that 05 team go....only a few are left...buerhle, bobby, dye, konerko, AJ
  25. well i've lost another two pounds, and down to 238....down 9 total...its nice to know that what i have been doing is working....and i feel alot better already...more energy, and working out isn't such a total hassle because it comes easier now...I really have to crack down the next few days because I know superbowl sunday is gonna be bad news...i'm going to try to limit myself, but i know I will end up drinking and eating too much
