QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) I've read this whole thread through and I don't know what to make of it. First, are we getting three players or four players? If it is three, a Lillibridge-Morton-Flowers package is awesome. If we were allowed to choose four players then I can't see how some of these names would have been involved, unless the Sox are eating some salary or something. Lillibridge, Morton, Flowers AND MORE??? Wow, we'd be getting a lot there. It appears Kenny may be getting more in dealing Javy than he gave up for Javy (Chris Young) so I like this a lot. Still want to see whether it is three or four, but Flowers and Morton is definitely fair for Javy IMO. Watched some video on Morton before, just the MLB highlights, and it doesn't look like he gets it up there in the mid-90's at all but he showed off a nice curve + change combo. was just coming here to post this after watching mortons highlights....his stuff is good...good curve, flashed a good change, and even threw a slider in there at 84...stuff and delivery wise reminded me alot of gavin but with less tail to the 2 seamer...looked like he was already throwing a cutter...from what i saw i liked this kid more than boone logan thats for damn sure http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/media/video....74&c_id=atl

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:14 PM) Flowers would immediately jump in as the #4 prospect for me with Danks being a close 5th (I'd flip them, but FLowers has proven more at this point). Lillbridge would top Getz by one spot (Getz being more of a sure thing, but Lillbridge having more upside). Our system is really improving quickly, imo, and we still are going to end up moving Dye. flowers is boderline top prospect for me...he's right there with beckham IMO....guys with his power and plate discipline like his are rare....

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Anyone think Morton sounds like Nick Masset? We all know how he turned out... at very best boone logan will be a Lefty specialist in the majors...therefore im saying Morton for Logan part of this deal is at worst a wash....which leaves Javy for Flowers and Lillibridge which is a very even deal...sox got their stud position prospect in flowers and another young major league ready guy who will at least be a utility guy in the bigs along with salary relief...so if the idea was to get younger and cheaper and land talent in return...id say KW did a solid job...that said im not sure who will be our 4 and 5 starters but the offseason is still young

morton got tossed around in the bigs this year....but one thing worth mentioning about his minor league stats....in his last 160 IP in the minors over the last 2 years....3 HR given up..thats absurd and something that certainly will help play at our park

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) Yes, and I just heard Rosey confirm it on CSN. Still just a name thrown out, but a possibility. guy at WSI said he heard chip caray on atlanta radio say taht it will be javy and logan for lillibridge flowers and morton...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) Very interesting. Could we possibly be prepared to move Alexei to CF? 2010 scenario: 3B Viciedo SS Lillibridge 2B Beckham 1B Fields CF Ramirez RF Quentin LF Shelby? C Flowers thats what i thought too....seems we have alot of middle IF types in getz, lillibridge, nix, beckham, betemit...personally i think his D at SS would be suspect, and i wouldn't mind seeing him in CF

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Flowers in the AFL: 75 AB, 12 HR, .387/.460/.973/1.433 He led the AFL in HR, hitting 33% more than the next guy. Oh and he led the AFL in OPS by 210 points. 232 OPS+'s are nice

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I've been waiting for something, ha. Anyone have any details on Lillibridge?

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Rosenthal says that Tyler Flowers may be in the deal: The White Sox will receive as many three players in return and also could part with left-handed reliever Boone Logan. Infielder Brent Lillibridge is expected to be in the deal along with a young starting pitcher and possibly Class A catcher Tyler Flowers. Left-hander Jo-Jo Reyes was among the pitchers under discussion, but is not in the trade, sources said. that would be phenomenal, flowers is a real talent and we are so thin at catcher

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) Below average On base abilities? His walk total dropped some as they pushed him up pretty quick it looks like over the last year, but in 06 he took 87 walks and put up a .420 OBP in their A ball levels. Was he hurt last year? It looks like he only played about 1/2 a season. ill tend to trust that his on base abilities are far closer to his performances at AA and AAA in 07 and 08 than his on base abilities as a 22 year old in A ball in 2006 2007: 40 BB in 525 ABs 2008: 36 BB in 435 ABs

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) jesus christ lillibridge is a bad baseball player more infatuation with speedy grinder type players with below average power and on base abilities though at least i think lillibridge does play some D

QUOTE (lord chas @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) addition by subtraction in boone maybe....but at worst vazquez is a guy who gives you 200 IP and 30 starts a year at league average ERA, with potential to exceed league average ERA...he may not be a #1 starter...but vazquez is a solid 3-4 starter and its gonna be tough to find that out of one of our young pitchers

QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) OMG I am praying for Jordan Schafer... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!! keep praying

a guy on WSI said espn is saying boone logan is in the deal as well

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:05 PM) Reyes isnt in the deal from what I hear. And you may not like the deal straight up, but wait until KW spend the money saved.... good point....ever since 2005 i always wait to see what KW does with the money...we'll see...could be saving up to spend in 2009/2010 offseason too

cubs officially the only player for peavy now huh....im gonna wait to see what we got in return, but im guessing im not going to like it., as i value javy's services more than most on this board and i think more than ozzie did...we have only 3 starters right now for next years rotation

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) The only reason it took him that long to break the starting lineup is because of Juan Uribe. I will bet on Viciedo starting for us out of ST. I'll bet he doesn't. He's 19 years old. Most guys that are 19 are playing in rookie ball, not even in class A. Maybe the kid is a phenom, in the mold of Andruw Jones and Miguel Cabrera and is ready to play at the age of 20. But bear in mind most US kids who are drafted out of high school at the age of 18 take at least 3 years to make the bigs. Most college guys drafted at the age of 21-22 take at least a year, usually two. I hope I'm wrong, and this kid is ready to play, right away, but I'll be very, very surprised. Besides, you say alexei didn't play because of Uribe, well maybe viciedo won't play because of Betemit...even if he is ready

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) 1. Freel CF 2. Getz 2B 3. Q RF 4. Thome DH 5 Kong 1b 6. Alexei SS 7. AJP C 8. Fields LF 9. Viciedo 3B 1. Buehrle 2. Floyd 3. Danks 4. Javy 5. Bailey im not a fan of that lineup at all...3 enourmous unknowns in getz fields and viciedo....plus freel who hasn't ever really had a starting gig, and has never played in the AL...Do people really think viciedo is gonna play right away? I sure don't ....Alexei was nearly sent to AAA and still took a month and half to break the lineup at the age of 26....I'll be shocked if he's on the major league roster next year...

QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 12:37 AM) Why? Thats going to be the National Championship game Oklahoma after tonight will almost certainly jump Texas in the BCS and I don't see them losing to Ok St or Missouri Alabama is going to get wrecked by Florida in the SEC title game, so the #1 and #2 will be Florida and Oklahoma when its all said and done.. So this is what I am seeing.. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP #1 Oklahoma Vs. #2 Florida ROSE BOWL Oregon State Vs. Penn State FIESTA BOWL Texas Vs. Utah SUGAR BOWL Alabama Vs. Ohio State ORANGE BOWL Florida State Vs. USC Of course, thats just a total prediction about how I see it playing out as much as id like to not see a big east team get an automatic bid...i believe Cincinnati clinched a BCS berth tonight...so id pencil them in ahead of ohio state probably... -

i dont care what anyone's arguement is...theres no way texas tech makes a BCS bowl now....oklahoma will go to the big 12 championship, and texas will likely get an at large, even though they lost to tech....this game is 52-7....you can't lay an egg like that and make the BCS still IMO looks like itll be...Florida, Bama, Oklahoma, Texas, PSU, Oregon State, USC, Utah, + whoever wins ACC and big East in the BCS...i doubt boise pushes USC out, but who knows....though that is all assuming oregon state beats oregon next week -

oregon state wins on a last second FG after missing an extra point with 3 min left....one more win and they go to the rose bowl to face penn state whom they lost to 45-14....I would love it if that kept USC out of the BCS, but i dont see that happening...likely it would keep ohio state out, and we'd get ohio state vs. georgia in the capital one bowl, which would be a great game IMO -

texas tech is just getting pounded.....ive thought the whole time that the actual best team of those 3 is oklahoma....i think texas and texas tech and even oklahoma state are a bit overrated...outside of each other those teams haven't beaten anyone.... -
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) Re-Bumping this, didn't end up going in June, but am taking the Bus there tomorrow morning for a weekend. Hopefully it's not to cold up there. We're trying to find a really good college bar if anyone knows? well I just spend a year there for grad school so I can help... Im sure there are some in cambridge that have like equations on the walls and s***, but there are a bunch of good bars near Fenway...Lansdowne street has a bunch of college hot spots, but there are some clubs mixed in there, but Jake Ivory's is a pretty cool piano bar...If you are big into sports bars the Cask'n Flagon is a legendary bar that is basically built into fenway, and there are a couple others right there that are really kinda cool, Game On, Boston Beer Works...Sticking closer to downtown, McFadden's near Fanueil Hall is good, but thats a chain bar so it might not be as local as youd hope.....The strip of bars that someone mentioned earlier near Fanueil and Govt. center is probably referring to Purple Shamrock, Bell in Hand and a couple others...its north Govt. center on the way to the North End....those bars get alot of college students, but you'll get more of a mix since they are downtown...either way they are pretty fun, but probably will have a cover.....there are alot of others near Fanueil Hall also, including a bunch of pretty fun and cheap Irish Bars....Out by the prudential building on Boylston is Lir, Whiskey's and a few others that will get a bunch of Northeastern and BU students... If you find yourself out near Allston (B train on the Green line), White Horse on Brighton ave. is always college kids, as is Joshua Tree out on Commonwealth ave. (mainly BU students) In terms of other stuff to do...Freedom Trail is great, it will be cold though so bundle up. If you don't want to do the entire trail I suggest truncating it...Walk through the Boston Gardens (though this time of year its not as nice as summer)...Cheers Bar is on Beacon right there, and The state house is a bit farther down...The Sam Adams grave and other Graveyards are on Tremont Street as you walk from the Common down toward Govt. Center and Fanueil Hall...Along that way you will also see the Old Post Office, the Old state house and a few other things...Fanueil hall itself was the old meeting ground and to be honest don't even bother going in the actual building unless you want a Big Papi Tshirt....Quinzy Market is right next to it and is a massive Food Court...lots of good stuff in there....From there Id walk through the North End (north of Govt. center)...Its the old Italian neighborhood and has tons of good restaurants and Pastry shops...There are better Pastry shops, but Mike's and Modern Pastry are the most crowded and famous, and right on Hanover street in the middle of it all...I suggest a Mike's Canoli, they are incredible....The Old North Church and Paul Revere's house (and I believe grave) are not far at all...from there if you want you can walk up to the Harbor and see the USS Constitution from a distance or you can walk over, but as someone else said, Id avoid going...nothing too great. Sorry, I intended to only write a few sentences and i got going i guess, hope that helps
