QUOTE (striker62704 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:22 PM) I'll probably get killed for saying this but if you look at 2005-2007 and compare Uribe and Swisher offensively, Swisher isn't that good. 2005-2007 hr/rbi/avg/obp Uribe 19/70/.240/.281 Swisher 26/82/.251/.358 I'm not saying Uribe is as good as Swisher, I'm just saying if you compare Swisher to Uribe you'll see he's isn't going to be missed. the value of near .080 pts in obp is enormous....in a 600 PA season thats 48 more times on first base, and more importantly, 48 fewer outs

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:17 PM) So does Marquez have a chance to compete for the 5th starter spot in ST? reading through the baseball america chat from before this past season, john maneul thought he would be ready to compete for a spot in 09....he was ranked #7 that year (and that is a really good top 10 btw) not because of the hype from the yankees, but because alot of scouts with other teams really liked him according to john manuel. but obviously his injury this year probably pushes that back a bit, id expect him to start in AAA and maybe push for a spot if he does well as the year goes on...but hell get looks in ST i would imagine

2 more things....i know not many people agree with me..but i think the best option for CF for our team next year is actually alexei ramirez...his D metrics are horrendous on the IF and i don't think a move to SS will help much, even if it is his "natural position" and also isn't betemit a guy who people think (or thought) is older than actually reported?
-
anyone know if betemit can play SS still? what are his defensive metrics like? I doubt hes much of an up the middle defender which makes his offense at the corners lacking....two years ago when betemit showed decent plate discipline and looked like he could play up the middle i really wanted him...i could be wrong but i believe hes basically confined to the corners now, and his ability to draw a walk has gone out the door its troubling to me that we give up on guys like swisher so fast....he got in ozzies doghouse because ozzie prefers an antiquated style of baseball, which is really too bad...i backed swisher for most of the year, but he was a man without a position...when KW got him I dont think he really intended to play swisher in CF, and the emergence of quentin pushed swisher to CF....i also dont really give a damn what swisher does in his personal life...there plenty of ballplayers and im sure many on our team who abuse drugs and go out and party... Marquez is a fairly good prospect actually and the type of sinkerballer KW has gone after hard for our ballpark...very good HR rates up until AAA this year....lack of K's in concerning, but his propensity for the GB may save him

why in gods name would the rays trade garza? he's young, cheap, good and they just traded delmon young to get him. Why would they trade him for an aging RF who should probably be playing DH that costs 12 mil per? These threads are getting ridiculous. Secondly, to those who don't think Price has good breaking stuff...you haven't watched him. His slider is filthy this is from Baseball America last year... Keep in mind also that this was Price's first year in pro ball, and he missed the first month of the season so when you saw him it was only after 19 games of seasoning in the minors. Poreda had 12 games in the minors last year, so what you saw out of Price was basically what you would have seen with Poreda had Poreda made the team out of ST this year. Price also struck out a batter per inning, Poreda K'd 118 in 161 IP this year. Price is the real deal...hes got an unreal attitude and drive as a competitor. He's gonna be a top 3 pitcher in baseball in 2 years IMO. Of course I am somewhat biased having seen him pitch his entire college career

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 03:12 PM) Cubs blogs are going nuts with a rumor that Peavy is being dealt for Theriot, Pie, and Marshall (and then Cubs would sign Furcal). Please, please don't be true! wow...if hendry pulls that off i'll go nuts...taht would be 2 trades he was able to work out giving up quantity without quality for a stud SP in about 5 months time..

Official 2008-2009 College Football Thread

i wish i read this thread a bit earlier....looks like i missed some good stuff -
that game was horrendously mismanaged at the end of the game.....im sorry mike singletarry but that was awful....2.5 yards to go with 4 seconds and you run it with michael robinson?!??? spike the ball and take your time
-
WOW what a finish to this game
-
wow did shaun hill panic there or what...thats up there with the aaron brooks backwards pass as one of the worst throws ive ever seen
-
a few observations....what a sloppy MNF game....seems like theres offsides or false starts on every single play.. and also the interior of the 49ers O line is awful....the cards bring pressure and get through almost every time oh and NFL refs still blow
-
i think some of you guys are simply writing off holliday as a coors phenomenon....certainly his numbers are helped by coors...but this guy had nearly a .900 OPS away from coors last year, and an obp well over .400 on the year, and is only 28 years old...add in to that he had nearly 30 SBs which would have easily been the high on the white sox.... besides if we are gonna knock holliday for his home stats as being largely due to playing 81 games at coors...dont forget that he played roughly 50 games in pitchers paradises of Petco, dodger stadium and AT&T

im putting this here because more people will see it than in the other ROY thread in diamond club...this is from neyer's blog and points out just how brutal these awards are

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) If Gonzalez really is that good, then the real losers in this are the Arizona DBacks. I mean, I'm a huge Dan Haren fan, but giving up Gonzalez(potential superstar) and Quentin(potential superstar), they are dumb. Quentin as we have seen is a stud. Gonzalez from all accounts is a stud. And by stud, I mean, MVP contender types. oakland got an absolute haul in that deal.....Eveland and Smith were basically solid rotation guys with low 4 ERAs....they also got Gonzalez, Aaron Cunningham (who had a really great year and has established himself as maybe as good of a prospect as gonzalez) Chris Carter (who is one of the best power prospects in baseball...39 bombs last year) and even best of all Brett Anderson who is probably a top 20 pitching prospect in baseball

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) That career .803 OPS on the road for Holliday is hilarious. .818, .859, .891 on the road inthe last three, years....trending upwards....he's also refined his on base skills and should be in the prime of his career...add into the fact that they should get draft picks, and have replacements in gio and potentially anderson or cahill by the end of the year for smith and street...this is a nice deal for the A's.....colorado did pretty well in return, though i have my doubts about each of those guys they got

dont call him hook...trust me

QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) I was pissed at Rex cuz he was missing open receivers all day. He can't throw to the sidelines for crap and missed a wide open Hester down field. yeah no doubt about it...the downfield miss to hester was huge...the titans were committed to stopping forte, and the bears kept pounding the ball and you knew at some point with rex they were gonna go play action deep....when they did, rex had time, and hester got open, and rex just over threw him...it was a TD if he makes a better throw....equally as costly were the handful of open receivers rex missed that caused us to go 3 and out costing us big time in the field position game
-
well its not like mark bradley has been producing for the chiefs...oh wait
-
at least the packers lost....though the vikings are now tied with us, still the packers are the bigger threat IMO, especially given the fact that we already one win vs. minny
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) Ballgame....Babich bent over and schooled on that 3rd down play. the bootleg was so f***ing predictable there....babich should be fired for that play alone
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) I love Rex, but he's been disgraceful since that first drive. Hester and Maynard are worthless now, and Tillman sucks as well. tillman is just not good in man coverage....f***ing vasher has been just god awful im so sick of this defense getting nickel and dimed to death in the passing game
-
my god....grossman missing open receivers left and right
-
REX HAS TO MAKE THAT THROW....the bears have been waiting all game to hit that play....play action deep to hester and rex misses him wide open...ugh
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Heindricht (sp?) is helping tennessee win this game so much. He is giving the Bears a 90+ yard field every time. Where's Maynard? thats as much the bears O ....that was the first first down in a long time from the passing game....its tough to have good FP when you can't move the ball
-
grossman on first drive: 6-9 56 yards passing since: 4-11 for -2 yards....and one of em was on the tipped play
