mully and hanley >>>> mike and mike....M&M too many commercials...too many horrible national topics waddle silvy are the best show on the radio right now...not even close....hampton and holmes are ok, though hampton is a moron....murph occasionally gets a good guest like jon dewan on and then its interesting..otherwise unlistenable.....12-2 is the worst 2 hours of the day...i normally opt for tirico and SVP....then MJH i like alot better than B&B but thats mainly cuz i can't stand B&B

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:15 AM) Believe me, Santo is not alone. It would be pretty funny if the Rangers traded Young before the ridiculous 5 year, $80M extension they gave him 2 years ago even kicks in. Last year was an option year, he starts making $16M a year in 2009. Imagine how undesirable Michael Young will be in 2012 or 2013 when he's 35/36 years old, incapable of playing even a mediocre 2B, putting up a low .700 OPS and making 16 million dollars with a full no trade clause.

i dont like santo for a variety of reasons, i think he campaigns for himself to get into the hall more than anyone I can remember in my lifetime...and i find that extraordinarily annoying and it really makes me like the guy alot less.....while i certainly empathize with his plight against diabetes and respect him for his charity work, i believe he uses his diabetes as a crutch to get into the HOF, which i also dislike....in addition he is the most annoying of all announcers in sports, and is the quintessential annoying cub fan....even going beyond being an annoying announcer, he is a bad, bad, bad announcer who does very little homework on the subject and barely knows opposing rosters sometimes that said from a strictly baseball standpoint...its very hard for me to tell whether guys before my time are or aren't HOFers...i've heard some good arguments for Santo's induction, and some for keeping him out....One line of argument I do not believe in is the "Well Such and Such is in, and Santo has better numbers, so he should be in too".... It may be a mistake that one guy is already in, but that doesn't mean we should make another mistake by letting another, perhaps undeserving player in either...whether or not he should be in as a baseball player, I have no clue...but from a personal standpoint im not really rooting for the guy, even though I do feel bad for him having to live with diabetes

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Yeah, I know. I was sitting here at noon eastern wondering what the hell was going on, then I realized it 9am there and they were just recovering from their hangovers. in vegas? you mean they were just getting in from the night before

QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:52 PM) Shot down. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7672373.story doesnt have to do with this trade....but what the hell is so special about Parnell that the sox would want him, and that the mets wouldn't want to give him up??
-
i highly doubt the rumors of encarnacion (not that they are even rumors) but if he was in the deal...we'd certainly be getting a guy who just isn't a clutch hitter...just ask jeff brantley
-
QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Is that Rotoworld saying we won a trade?!?! not necessarily....just as both teams can "win" a trade (tip of the cap to adam smith) both teams can also "lose" a trade....rotoworld i think is just saying Dye makes 0 sense for the reds because htey only have him for 1 year and still won't likely contend during that year, so why even give up on bailey?
-
QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:44 PM) Anyone know how Encarnacion is defensively? horrendous
-
while we are talking about third base (maybe this should go in a different thread), but what do we reasonably expect out of Josh Fields this year if he plays everyday? I guess I'd say .250 with .310 obp and 20 HR
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) Fields, Dye and at least $6 million for Bailey and Encarnacion... speculation??
-
so assuming this deal goes through....Q moves to right ...does Dayan get long looks in ST in LF? i expect him to be in AAA this year anyways, but does he give LF a shot in the minors also? i think he does....or maybe josh does? that didn't go so well last time though
-
dude on WSI says rumor says that encarnacion is in on the deal but we may have to pay half JDs salary...take that FWIW...which is probably very little edit: fixed for accuracy
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) 1 year of Dye for the former #1 prospect in baseball who is still young isnt a bad deal. I also dont think this is a 1 for 1 deal at all. yeah i think we at least will get another guy or two....maybe a toolsy young single A arm or rookie ball arm like Santos Rodriguez
-
i love jermaine dye....that said he was god awful in the field last year, is only signed for 1 year and i dont think this is a terrible trade....its disappointing to me that we aren't going for it this year, but this is the type of youth movement i called for last year, and i like that KW is trading a guy before his stock drops too low....hopefully bailey gets straightened out....this is the most recent scouting report from oct. 3 2008 when he was the 10th prospect in the IL
-
boy wouldn't it be a huge slap in the face if we told OC alexei was gonna start at SS, so OC declines arb. and then we sign furcal.....haha..i am hoping thats what happens with Alexei either staying at 2b or moving to CF Furcal SS Getz 2b (probably not a 2 hitter right away, but if he gets on base at a .340 clip, hes as good as any candidate to hit 2) Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1b AJ C Alexei CF Fields 3b

ok now maybe i should go post this on a cubs board, but id be accused of trolling...but people always want to know why i think ron santo is such a turd....well im posting two excerps from articles, about two separate potential HOFers who til now have fallen short that highlight their reactions...

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) I swear this commentator not named Verne Lundquist is riding Tim Tebow so hard he should probably have a saddle. Sickening. bob griese...and you are right it was gross....the pinnacle of the announcing careers of either one of those two was lundquist's "large and economically diverse crowd" moment in happy gilmore -
I stayed at the MGM Grand in Vegas last weekend and there was already a huge buzz and a boxing ring set up in the main lobby advertising the fight. Is anyone gonna watch, or has UFC completely killed boxing? I've never really been a huge fan of either one, but I watch big fights if I can, and since I was just at MGM I wouldn't mind watching this one.

im not sure that it was mentioned in this thread, but one thing to keep in mind for this upcoming year with javy is that he will likely pitch in the WBC in spring...i remember when we first got him there was some thought that he overdid it a bit there and was tired during the year
-
he was unreal...that said its hard for me to like a guy who played 10 outa 23 years for the cubs...but i still manage to somewhat like maddux

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 11:56 PM) How could you ever think of turning a guy who hits 31 homers during his last college seasion into a pitcher? Especially, when you think of the offensive talent that the Pirates had back in 2001. it wasnt 31 HR ....but check out tim hudsons college #s
-
guy was a helluva college player...pirates had thoughts of rick ankieling him and as fathom said i wouldnt doubt if we do

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) Best TV show I've ever seen. I've probably watched each episode at least 5 times and I still laugh uncontrollably each time I see them, it has incredible replay value. Sometimes I find myself jonesing for a specific episode, usually "Pier Pressure." The Hot Cops are about as good as it gets. since i have yet to see them all i can't quite put the show in my top 4 or 5...but based on 1 season i think it will end up right up there with seinfeld and curb....will prolly jump ahead of simpsons (which is hurt by extending the show with too many bad seasons)....but yeah pier pressure is really funny...

found this...he's definitely a big boy...love seein him go the other way like he did in that
