  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) I thought that show was f***ing stupid. Just a ripoff of the Tenacious D show back in the day, but without the funny. this certainly doesn't belong in this thread but your avatar is why i am posting it...I had never seen arrested development before and i started DVRing it on G4 about 2 weeks ago because some people i know said it was really really funny...G4 ran a marathon of the entire first season on thanksgiving and i spent just about 5 straight hours glued to the TV watching...holy christ i can't believe 5 years after the fact i am just now watching it, but damn is it freaking hilairous
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) THATS a major benefit since Cowley is such a homo. Also, I would still keep Getz at 2B and move Alexei to CF if it was my team. Getz's contact and OBP is more valuable in the lineup than anything BA could bring. Alexei+Getz is better than Alexei and BA. agreed on everything you said
  3. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Jessie Rodgers just stated that on a conference call with Kenny, he asked what happens if Cabrera accepts arbitration. Kenny stated that Alexei is our SS, and one of the young guys will be our 2nd baseman. If Cabrera comes back, he will be on the bench. haha nice...i think thats kenny playing hardball...a year riding pine destroys OCs market value next year and in the long run, OC would lose money by taking arbitration, even if he can't quite get the deal he wants right now
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) I believe Gammons called Ozuna a nice young prospect when he came up. well in fairness....there was a time when pablo ozuna was a real good prospect...ranked #8 in all of baseball by baseball america...then the world found out he was two years older than listed
  5. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:14 PM) these guys (keith laws of the world) are phony snake oil salesman....like the expert analysts you see on CNBC. no way can one man be an expert on 1200 or so players and prospects. while he is an enormous, pompous asshole....i actually think keith law is fairly smart, but whenever you read anything from any of these guys you have to keep in mind the bolded part above....i believe law is an expert in statistical analysis, but when it comes to scouting thousands of players, you are right....nobody can be right about every single one...that said i do know that he has seen players in baseball alot more than i do, at least from other organizations...within our own organization, the fact is that alot of people on this site have seen our guys way more than he has and may have better informed opinions than he does, but thats just the nature of the beast when you are in a profession like he is i do give the man credit thoguh because he does see a s*** ton of amateur baseball and does try to make himself as informed as possible
  6. heh...the cards absolutely love rasmus...i seriously doubt we even have enough minor league pitching to get him, the cards want him playing everyday by the end of this year
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:05 PM) If OC accepts, you have to keep Alexei at 2B. assuming we acquire no further players (which clearly we will), im not sure that its that clear cut...who plays CF? BA? love his D but he's been an awful offensive player (waits for response by some soxtalker to say just give him a chance everyday)....at this point id be willing to at least take a look at the other guys (getz, lillibridge, nix, betemit, maybe even gordo by the end of the year) over BA and Owens
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) I looked back a day or so and didn't see this posted anywhere, Keith Law's take, with some nuggets about the 2 guys we haven't heard much about yet. in addition Law said in todays chat that he sees Flowers as the best prospect in our System
  9. so, if OC accepts arbitration...i assume then we will work out a 1 year deal before the case reaches the arbiter, thats what usually happens right? if thats the case, then we can't trade him as theres a rule against "sign and trades" in the mlb, right? Edit: in thinking about this...its a moot point i suppose....on just a 1 year deal, nobody will want to give up anything of substance for OC, so if if he accepts he's playing SS for us next year.
  10. if we have cabrera at SS...there are worse things really...at least its only for a year...we'd like to have the draft picks sure, but who is to say a top 15 team in the draft wouldn't sign him, and wed just get a sandwich pick....besides it might keep alexei out of SS and perhaps even into CF....i know he costs a ton more, but im fairly certain he would give us way more than anything lillibridge would give us
  11. "what kind of a person are you?" "I think I'm pretty much like you. Only successful."
  12. Cowley was on the score earlier and said he has to believe that this is a precursor to another move...didnt really say what it could be, but he thinks it got done before the winter meetings for a reason, so that KW can go there and execute some sort of plan
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:54 AM) So I would be curious to see everyone's updates lists after the Viciedo signing, along with the Vazquez and Swisher trades! How do those top 10's look now? The second question is where about do people think the Sox farm system ranks in the overall scheme of things on a general basis ?(Top 10, top 5, middle 10, etc.) 1. Beckham 2. Flowers 3. Poreda 4.Viciedo 5. Lillibridge 6. Getz 7. Gilmore 8. Allen 9. Shelby 10. Danks id say we are now probably near 20th in terms of farm systems
  14. QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:44 PM) Please justify how he sucks. He put up stats good enough for a no. 4 or 5 guy, has the potential to be even better then that, has great stuff, is cheap, and the Rays want to move to make room for Price. What's not to like? theres alot to be cautious about with jackson starting with high BB/IP rates and low K/IP rates...especially for a guy with great stuff....just as importantly, last year was his only average to above average entire year of baseball since 2003 (granted the kid was rushed like hell)....i wouldnt go as far to say as he sucks as those did before in this thread, but i understand reasons to not like him
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) lol, I kind of jumbled my thoughts there. A lot of going on today. I doubt we'd go and sign both Furcal and Dunn. I was just thinking I would love to get Dunn, but if that were the scenario, Furcal would be unlikely. However, if I want to get my ps3 up and running... 1. Furcal, SS 2. Ramirez, CF 3. Quentin, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Dunn, LF 7. Fields/Betemit, 3B 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Getz/Lillibridge, 2B That's a nice lookin' lineup right there, if you ask me. The only problem is that your looking at probably at least 250 K's, but likely more, from the 5 and 6 spots together. that would be pretty nice...especially if we could get a young pitcher + another prospect for dye...theres an awful lot of on base ability in that lineup with dunn, thome, quentin...i wouldnt sweat the K's too much though, but you are right, dunn, fields thome and alexei could help lead that team to mlb records in Ks...whatever though..my personal feelings towards Ks are rather well documented around here, so it wouldnt bother me too much
  16. Rosenthal reporting its Flowers, Lillibridge and 2 low minor leaguers.....so im guessing that means gilmore and rodriguez....I would have liked to have gotten a more ready arm (morton) but its not a deal breaker for me as we have significant cash to address the issues either through FA or even trades yet to come
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Can someone PLEASE tell me what we got back (or the latest solid rumor)? hard to tell for sure...but based just about everything being reported...we are getting Flowers and Lillibridge for sure along with 2 extra players Atlanta Journal const. says the other two players are Jon Gilmore (not the old bears tight end) and Santos Rodriguez, while Rock keeps hearing from his source that Morton is one of the two
  18. this was pre draft 2007 on gilmore
  19. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) Kenny loves the AFL; sure does....even if the kid hits only 10 HR in the bigs (unlikely given his power numbers so far), the kid walked 98 times in 510 plate appearances, and if he can be a catcher in the bigs with a .370 obp hes gonna be a helluva big leaguer
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) I might be in the minority here. But I'd like to see us develop our own talent (even if we didn't draft it). If you can land a true impact guy, fine. Other than that, develop them and bring 'em on up. i really believe that in 2011 a 2-3-4-5 of beckham, flowers, quentin, viciedo could be really good and really young
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) I'm still hearing Morton, although those two are on the "list". KW wants a starter in return as well. BTW, our vacant 2B spot has an open competition between Lilli, Getz and Nix. Pretty good talent there. a package of Flowers, Lillibridge, Morton and Gilmore would be a just a great package IMO
  22. santos is a 20 year old reliever who was in rookie ball last year and had a pretty sick K rate...45 K in 29 IP in 2008 (to go along with 0 HR), and 35 K in 28 IP in 2007
  23. gilmore was a sandwich pick just a year ago out of high school....and he hit .337 last year in rookie ball...0 plate discipline but the kid is still only 20
  24. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) So are we getting three players back or four? I can't wait until we hear the official word. If we receive a four-player package, then this is an excellent trade IMO. sox website now says we are getting 4 back...so thats what im going to assume...it also sounds as if 2 of them are certainly going to be lillibridge and flowers...
