  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:32 AM) Because Jerry isn't going to violate slot bonuses because of his handshake agreement with the commish. i understand thats part of it...and thats really what my frustration goes back to...if kenny isn't gonna do it, but he sits there and watches the red sox, tigers, dodgers and other teams do it over and over and over again, he is leaving himself at a competitive disadvantage
  2. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 10:03 PM) For sure, a close road win against a decent team like that is a good early season remedy to try and forget last season ever happened. absolutely....especially give our home court advantage due to the acoustics and layout of the court....we dont lose at home very often...i would guess only about 5 times in the last 3 years...that said if we were to lose to anyone, im glad its illinois as the illini were my fav team before i went to college and are the team i still root for outside of vandy
  3. im happy we signed this guy, but why the hell are we willing to throw 11 mil at virtually unknown cuban players and yet won't deal out money in the draft to guys like Porcello? I understand high school players like Rick are unknown as well, but it just seems silly to me....i guess its because during the draft we have an opportunity to take another player who may be close to as good for alot cheaper, but still....either way i like to see money invested in acquiring young players...its partially how the red sox have been built into what they are
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) That was him. He retired last year. man i remember there was an epic debate on bringing up Jenks or Bajenaru during the 2005 season and alot of posters were upset and felt like Bajenaru got shafted when Jenks came from AA....im glad the sox made the right call
  5. Illinois is in Nashville to take on my Commodores tonight...should be a good game...We are a tough, tough team to beat at home, but we are so young and Illinois has alot of experience that should help...Kevin "from the office" Stallings and Bruce Weber are also very good friends which should make this an interesting matchup....i'll say vandy pulls out a close one
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 11:28 AM) On another note, JT Snow ditched switch-hitting late in his career and it did wonders for his overall stats. Maybe the Sox will do this with Betemit. as did raul ibanez
  7. levine said that the cubs are making signing milton bradley a priority ....if hes healthy he can obviously do some damage
  8. i actually think teahen would be a nice fit for the cubs...in that park/lineup/league i think he can hit .280/.350/.450 with 20 HR .... actually frankly i think he CAN hit that in the AL, but i think hes got a good shot to do it in the NL

    Value Menu Items

arbys is strange...the thing they are known best for, the roast beef sandwiches, are god awful...they are so horrendously bad its not even funny...the other stuff they have there, however, chicken items, fries and other sides, are quite good
  10. pedroia is a hell of a ballplayer.....one of the worst years i can remember for MVP candidates in a long time though...I thought he wasn't even the best player on his team though....at least pedroia is a great fielder, which should count for something even though it doesn't
  11. he'll be in AAA....maybe if he figures things out he can end up on the roster at the end of the year ala carassco...the "40 at 33" was really confusing for a minute...then i got what you mean saying the 40 man roster is at 33 people right now
  12. the guys a beast...i can't believe this is only his second award....he deserved it no doubt...his freaking obp was .462...crazy
  13. just saw this on sports center too....any minute chance he had of buying the cubs just went out the door....even if innocent..no chance baseball owners let him in their elite club now
  14. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 16, 2008 -> 03:39 AM) So I went to Tennessee's season opener tonight against UT-Chattanooga, and we looked great. I know it was a weak opponent, but this team can put up points in a hurry. We scored 9 points in less than 30 seconds at one point. The defense is a bit weak as they tend to reach a lot, which will hurt against a good opponent. But, this is the most athletic team I've seen since I've been here. And we finally have a legit PG for Pearl's system. Ramar Smith just didn't fit right. Bobby Maze, who looks identical to Dee Brown, can hit a shot if he's open, but he mainly pushed the floor and played solid defense. More importantly, we saw the potential of Scotty Hopson. He just dominated one stretch in the 2nd half. Our freshman class is nasty. the UT vandy rivalry is starting to become a really good rivalry in the SEC.....we are a bit down this year as we are so damn young...0 seniors and only 2 juniors (one who stinks)...our fresh class was a top 15 recruiting class, and we should be damn good in a year or two....Hopson was a huge get for UT....Pearl is a good coach but I absolutely can't stand him...he's my bball version of charlie weis, and im sure all the illini fans agree
  15. no way st louis trades rasmus...they are penciling him in in center next year and for 5 years after that im sure
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:52 PM) I bet he ends up being a closer in the AL Central. Don't forget he's a type A. its so stupid that they treat middle relievers and closers as two separate positions in that....what do you think? tigers? indians?
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) AS of now, next year is looking like C AJ 1b Konerko 2B Getz/NIX 3B Fields/Betemit SS Missle Rf Dye Cf Anderson Lf Q DH Thome Don't call me out on this, because i think we'll get a CF (not TAVERAS!) But in two years it gets really juicy. We're talking Allen, Beckham, Danks 2, Viciedo, Armstrong and maybe even Shelby on the bench, i think theres a great chance we still get both an OF and an IF through trades or FA still....one of them for sure..theres no way we go into next year with both anderson and getz/nix in the lineup i just looked through some betemit metrics defensively...and he has been fairly neutral defensively, specifically at SS (though he was younger, more slender and small sample size for the most part)....he was above average at 1b, but he won't be there more than a handful of times next year
  18. theres no chance we give a starting gig to a rookie who hasn't played above A ball, or a 19 year old who hasnt ever played on american soil...
  19. i know we already have alot invested in middle relief but i really like the idea of going after juan cruz...
  20. i really want to go on a bunch of yankees boards and post "yankees get swisher and TEIXEIRA"
  21. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) Actually Masset was pitching in the Mexican Winter League. oh yeah you are right now that you mention it...either way, KW sure seems to do alot of scouting at the offseason leagues
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Yeah, but John Danks came in that one too, so no harm no foul. oh i wasnt complaining about the deal....just another example of KW lovin the AFL so where does betemit play next year? I actually think if he can play even average D at 2b, hes pretty damn valuable there if he plays everyday...i would really love if he could play SS and alexei in CF, but i know most really want alexei at SS....i guess it also depends on what we do in FA... addressing the economy issue...i dont think this is a salary dump...i think the money will be used elsewhere...Jerry R has always had a ton of money, but he rarely spends his own money on the team, he usually spends a % of the revenue that comes in on the team...now maybe he projects that the bum economy will drive attendance and sales down, and with good reason, but id guess at least for this year we wont cut much salary...i think the money we saved on swish will be spent elsewhere
  23. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) Reminds me exactly of the Gavin Floyd acquisition; its strange KW really loves to scout the AFL....i mean its a good place to see prospects playing against other high level prospects (especially for guys who have only played in A ball like beckham) but it really seems like KW puts more stock into what he sees there than most GMs....sometimes i think he puts too much stock into it...i believe nick masset was acquired heavily because of his "jenks lite" effort given at the AFL as well
  24. FYI betemit has an .814 OPS vs. righties, .620 vs. lefties
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 06:25 PM) Look for Dunn to sign with the Cubs and play RF. nah, dunn never hits in wrigley
