QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) I'm sure someone will claim inside knowledge on why OC is such a cancer. But before they do, I'd like to say that is clearly not evident on the surface. i dont really dont think this thread has anything to do with him "being a cancer" (which i don't believe he is) its more that he is 1.) old 2.) overrated defensively 3.) overrated offensively (no power, weak on base skills, not a huge threat on the bases) and 4.) will get alot of money if we could sign him to a 1 year 4 million dollar deal i would certainly do that, but he will probably be looking for 3 years in the neighborhood of 20 mil (at the minimum i would think), and for that id way rather have the draft picks

going into every year, i always hope the sox can at least make the playoffs...they did this year, and i didn't realistically think we were the best team in the league, but i thought maybe we could pull an 06 cardinals...hurts to go home, but im looking forward to next year already either way being at game 163 was the greatest game i've ever been to, and outside of a handful of postseason games in 2005 my favorite white sox game ever

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) How about this: Welcome to SS Alexei Ramirez!!! haha i didnt even have to look at who created this thread to know.... that said, im not at all excited to see alexei at short...id rather keep him at 2b and look for a SS instead

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) I think I was more frustrated when the Sox lost meaningless games in July than I am now. yeah me too...lower expectations now i suppose...all 3 teams that were in the AL postseason not named the white sox were really really good teams that will be tough for either of those NL teams to beat ... ive said it the past 3 years, but the last game of the season always emphasizes how tough it is to win the world series, and made me appreciate 2005 so much more for whatever reason it seems easier to win it all once you are in the postseason than it does to actually make it to the postseason, but you have only a 1-8 chance, whereas in the reg. season the odds to make it to the playoffs are slightly better than 1-5 QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) f*** you cub fans. we have awesome fans. yeah i was proud of the way the fans were behind the team the whole way, that place was still rocking even though we were down 4....seemed louder than at any point during the cubs series

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) As Tex said, we're looking into it. cool, im getting the same thing....let me know if you need the info from my virus scan

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 12:16 PM) When people talk about Palin being close to the White House it isnt because of assassination concerns, its because of his age. McCain isnt the candidate the Secret Service is worried about protecting IMO. oh certainly i know that...mccain is 72 with history of skin cancer, i was just making the statement to emphasize the fact that i think palin is a mope

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) have you not seen "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids"? It can be done! magic schoolbus baby

i like mccain, but if he is elected i hope the secret service force is like quadrupled to protect the guy...heaven forbid something should happen to him

love this thread....cuz i can relate after graduated college is when it started...i started to feel like i had actual responsibilities...i got my own apartment, which meant no more dorm room stuff....no beer paraphernalia everywhere, no crap thrown all over the place...i had to actually keep the place nice and respectable, no more wearing raggy jeans and a baseball hat everywhere (i still wear em but not all the time) but for me...the biggest thing, and i've said this multiple times to others, was that I felt like i actually had to have a hand towel folded nicely on the towel bar in my bathroom in case i had a visitor...in college, crap like that didnt matter....

heard somewhere on teh radio that kazmir hasn't been able to locate his slider at all lately and because of it he has basically ditched it and is a fastball change up guy....hopefully he doesn't find it tomorrow

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) ding ding - i had no problem with it. balfour was showing up the sox. payback looming.... how awesome it is that pk owns wheeler he was 1-6 with a single, BB and 2 Ks before tonight...thats hardly owning a guy

QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) I hate OC. and we could have pitched Clayton Richard. Holy f***, the Hawkeroo was right. hindsight is 20/20...in all honesty we couldnt pitch clayton...you just can't ...he's had plenty of horrendous outings this year, and im shocked the Rays didnt bunt on him at all...with his inability to throw t o first i thoguht crawford, upton, aki and even more should have been bunting on him....that said, kid pitched great and gave us a chance to get back in it while javy was crapping away anotehr lead....frustrating...i think now though if we should be lucky enough to get that far...theres no way javy starts again this postseason. javy might make a good reliever....he seems to always pitch well for an inning or two and i would bet he'd pick up a mph or two on his fastball
-
well the f***ing turf cost us two runs, but there were bigger culprits than that.... vazquez threw nothign but fastballs in inning 1, and then grooves one first pitch to longoria...then throws him a hanger in his second AB...terrible really, how long is the ridiculous juan uribe era going to last? this guy should have been out of a job a long time ago

the dewayne wise experiment has to stop and IMO swisher will benefit greatly from being in the 2 spot...He'll see better pitches to hit, see alot of pitches for the big boppers (nobody in baseball sees more) and he'll get on base more than AJ or wise would for the HR hitters in the lineup...i know the .219 is a killer right now, but as boers and bernstein were saying on the radio today, his BABIP and line drive % suggest his been horrendously unlucky

BHam shut out in the southern league as well....our farm system rocks

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 04:04 PM) Kevin Youkilis (to me, he's pretty clearly the winner here, but nobody is giving him any credit) Cliff Lee (not close) Evan Longoria (it's a shame Alexei didn't have a good September overall, or he could have won it) thats exactly how i voted....not sure why nobody likes youk....he slugged higher and has a higher obp than pedroia, hit more HRs....the only real thing dustin did better was steal bases and .014 higher in BA, but like i said youk had better obp and slg....and probably defense, but nobody in the MVP voting cares about defense anyways

not sure who does philly radio, but im listening to them through gameday audio....and if i didnt know any better i would think hawk was announcing for them "where is that pitch? thats not low, not high, and its right down the plate" and "i dont know why dana demouth is umpiring this game. hes not a good game caller behind the plate. you have to have your best umps" and "thats already 2 or 3 blown calls behind the plate"

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) I feel so bad for Levi. not me... 1.) wear a bag 2.) hes gonna be/already is famous because of all this

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) anywhere in the SEC, minus Vanderbilt. Eye candy galore. think agian my friend... http://collegeprowler.com/Colleges/Rankings/Girls/ they used to rank em in order and vandy was #1...the vandy girl is no myth but for an actually game going to a game at vandy is horrendous, you are right....though gameday is there this weekend! -
i think there are 22 locks AJ, Hall, Konerko, Swisher, Alexei, OC, Uribe, Wise, Griffey, Anderson, Dye Javy, Mark, Gavin, Danks Jenks, Thornton, Dotel, Linebrink, Carassco, Richard (versatility makes him a lock, esp. with the lefties in tampa) Clearly we need 1 more IFer....getz is hurt so he's out, Bourgeois doesn't really play third, Fields is hurt too but as far as I know he can still play, so i think he makes the roster In the pen I think Ramirez probably makes it as well as much as I hate the guy and don't want to see him out there, that leaves macdougal vs. Russel vs. Owens for the final spot.....frankly if we even have to use macdougal or russel, we probably aren't going to win anyways, so part of me wants to see owens because he actually has value in a close game as a PR

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) Cool as long as no fights broke out. Just out of curiosity how did they react? They had to be so bummed at scoring nada runs. upper deck had a few groups of fans....one guy behind me was with a sox fan, and he was awesome about it...i didnt realyl say anything to him, he was a good guy...other guys just walked out and didnt really say anything just maybe something like "yeah you guys are real cool" no fights or anything, mainly i just said stuff like "this is our house!" and "hey theres always the timberwolves season" or "see you in 09"...crap like that, i dont think i was out of line at all with anything, i mean i let them know we won but nothing obnoxious, not like i was instigating anything, and i dont think it was "classeless" as much as it was "exciting and passionate"

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 10:52 PM) The Umpiring Crew for the Sox/Rays Division Series will consist of Joe West, Gary Darling, Jeff Kellogg, CB Bucknor, Eric Cooper and Ron Kulpa. Personally, I f***ing hate Joe West. typically i dont take note of the good umpires, and only hte bad ones.....but gary darling is the best umpire in the majors from what i have seen/can remember

i let a few twins fans hear it when they were on their way out of the stadium tonight simply due to this thread...

i do think there is a bit of a big game thing with javy, but i dont think its as big as those on this board tend to say...i still think he is capable of winning big games....he lost his last 3 games looking bad doing so, but lets not forget his games from before that... August 12 8IP 0 ER August 17 8IP 1 ER August 23 7 IP 4 ER (most late, and given up by the pen) August 29 5.2 IP 3 ER Sept. 3 6IP 2 ER Sept. 9 6IP 2 ER Sept 14 7.2IP 0 ER thats a string of really really good outings when it counted...they may not have been the biggest games, but all games in late August into september are big and javy was really good for a long stretch there...lets hope now he's rested that he can hit his stride again
