  1. i think the phillies have a great shot at winning, especially with hamels lined up to pitch game 1...not that it means they are the better team....i would be willing to bet that if you played 100 7 game series the "better" team only ends up winning what...60 of them?
  2. arod....5 years younger, and can actually play defense and steal a base for you
  3. beckham 0-3 with a K in todays game Poreda with an inning...struck out the side, but did allow a hit and walk
  4. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 09:26 AM) I prefer to do all the talk on Soxtalk. I like talking to the same group of people. me too...talkbulls is completely dead and im not a huge fan of talk bears....it would be nice to start a Bears thread in A and J's instead of just the generic NFL thread, as i feel soxtalk is actually a better and more active avenue for talking about the bears than talkbears is IMO
  5. didnt see the other calls earlier in the game, and i hate dallas as much as anyone, but i didnt really think the guy was injured and it sure looked to me like he was just trying to slow the cowboys down adn prevent them from spiking it, especially given that fact that the guy is out there on the first play of OT
  6. QUOTE (rangercal @ Oct 12, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) I realize Vash was out, Peanut was out (most of the game) and we were not generating pressure up the middle. But, s***! His scheme was exposed today, big time. I miss Ron Rivera. the thing is...this isnt babich's scheme entirely.....its lovie's.....we sat there today and let a rookie qb pick us apart without getting any pressure on him...another 0 sack game from our defense full of playmakers....everything ryan did today was so vanilla its not even funny...throw to the soft spots in the zone.....i know people criticized the dan bazuin draft, and for good reason, he sucked and didn't work out, but right now we have 3 DEs (2 who are aging) who are getting 0 pressure on the qb, so i can't fault our organization for drafting a DE, they just took the wrong one...it will be something that will have to be addressed in the draft next year IMO
  7. how in the f***ING OWORLD do you not kick that ball deep?!?!?!?

    What do i do?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 10, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Really? So being a phony is considered great advice? haha i said it completely tongue in cheek, with a hint of unfortunate truth splashed in at some points, and wasn't meant to be real advice thanks to those who appreciated it though... in all seiousness, if you are still hung up on the girl...rent and watch swingers....vince vaughn before he became vince vaughn and arguably his best movie

    What do i do?

two ways to win this girl...one short term, one long....both follow the same course of action, but the end point depends on her Invite her and her friends to your college....get copious amounts of booze for you, your friends, her and her friends...drink, heavily. Be obnoxious, hit on her, hit on her friends, but don't be buddy-buddy emotional....basically be a huge asshole. she will either A.) love it, and shes yours (though not long term cuz if she loves it shes probably a ho) or b.) she will hate it (good in long run). if she hates it, keep acting like that all throughout your first two years of college. Drunk dial her. talk about girls you hook up, talk about her hot friends. She'll wonder, "what happened to sonik, he used to be such a nice guy", but she'll still always talk to you because you are good friends. And besides, college is fun, and that is how it is supposed to be. Then toward the end of college (hopefully you've been studying your balls off the whole time too) get into a great graduate program (medical or law or business or something) or get some job where you start pulling in some green. Start wearing nice clothing and drinking only johnnie walker, treat her well. Ask about her and her family, take a genuine interest. Be the nicest guy possible. She'll think "my god has he changed, i just love a mature man." She'll love how much you have changed (but still realize you know how to have a good time) and at first will resist her temptations to hook back up with you, but it won't last long. You're an now an irresistible, responsible handsome young man that every female college graduate dreams of sleeping with. Hook, line and sinker...now you've got her...from here, go on get married, cheat on her as often as possible while remaining together in a happy marriage, and poof, you've just lived the true American Dream
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 06:23 PM) Is $10-12 million a big enough difference between a .700 OPS and whatever the hell kind of defense Getz plays to an .800+ OPS player with gold glove defense but slight injury concerns? it all depends....im certainly not a big enough orlando hudson fan to give him 10-12 million dollars a year....he barely has an OPS over .800 in the NL...so im guessing it would be high .700s in the AL...especially if that deal is anything longer than 2 years, as i certainly don't see a 34 year old orlando hudson being worth 10-12 mil but then again, its not my money, so spend away....but that said if it means we are failing to use 10-12 mil in other areas, i dont think hudson is worth it...
  11. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) I really miss Olivo's arm. I'm really starting to get sick of AJ and his complete inability to throw out anyone. I know that alot of it has to do with our pitchers, but he has a terrible arm. completely agree......the pitchers being bad at holding guys is overstarted and perpetuated by our announcer who finds it extremely difficult to say anything bad about AJ.....buerhle is one of the best in the league at holding runners, and Danks and Vazquez are near average i would say...floyd and contreras are bad...but i dont think our pitchers are nearly as bad as the hawkaroo likes to say and more of the blame needs to go to AJ who IMO has the worst arm of any starting catcher that comes to mind
  12. i am also a big getz fan....at least i became one with the year he had this year...if his emergence of power he showed is legit, i liken him to an older ryan sweeney at 2b not sure what we would have to pay orlando hudson, but im pretty sure for the money simply plugging getz in would be a much more cost effective option, as i dont see a big enough difference in their numbers to justify something like 8 mil per year
  13. in nearly 250 ABs over the last two years with the sox toby hall has 9 walks and 9 extra base hits, posting OPSs of .466 and .635...thats miserable on top of that as others said, he doesn't have any speed or athleticism, he throws better than AJ but then again so does just about every other catcher in the game...and its not like his D is great
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 11:52 AM) I bet he goes with Marshall and Hoffpauir for Brian Roberts i would have to imagine the cubs significantly decreased their chances of getting roberts when they dealt gallagher away...their farm system isnt as bad as ours, but its pretty bad
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) God damn I hope that's true. It was speculated at the time of the deal that Gillick made a hand shake deal with Kenny where he would kick in some cash if the option vested. George Offman actually alluded to this a few weeks ago as well which gives me hope. Jim thome at $8M is more than reasonable. i definitely remember hearing about that handshake agreement, and i actually thought i remember hearing somewhere that they would pay half of his deal....either way, whether we are on the hook for 6.5 or 8, its a nice deal for a guy who still should be good for a .370 ish obp and 30 HR (barring injury)
  16. FWIW Cowley said this morning he believes the phillies will pay roughly 5 mil of Thome's contract
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Anyone else think we need to make a deal for a decent CF? What we have will not do. absolutely...the only question is whether the organization will wait another year or not....we might be able to make it another year with swisher/anderson in center while PK plays first and thome DHs...but after that (assuming PK isn't dealt) i would imagine thome would go when his contract is up, PK goes to DH and swisher to 1b...so we need a CF either for 09 or for 10...assuming no major player from our team gets dealt now i think the sox might try to wait it out, but if they are able to get a solid CF this offseason i could see them moving now
  18. if somehow we signed furcal, id have to seriously question the decisions of our management if he played 2b and not ss...
  19. thunderbolt: i like your idea... not sure that the reds are ready to give up on bailey just yet, but you never know and he's a guy to target... i would imagine that the brewers would be a team interested in javy as well...id imagine theyd look to compete for next year, and probably will be without sabathia and sheets....they'll for sure be in the market for a SP...im just not sure KW should trade javy while his value is relatively low though
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) Is Toby's contract up? team option at 2.25 mil or a 150,000 buyout per kalapse's chart...i hope hes gone
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:35 PM) I just don't think we can afford I-Rod (even as a back-up) and Uribe...maybe. I guess it depends on how much I-Rod overestimates his ability to be a starter still. His career is ending like Roberto Alomar's, very quietly. I'm jealous of the Twins, Redmond is nearly the perfect one up there. i never thought i would say this...but for this team im even jealous of the cubs...henry blanco is perfect for us (hits better vs. lefties, cannon of arm, plays good D, knows his role as back up) its been so long since weve had a decent backup catcher....i know its not a big worry heading into next year, but christ toby hall was horrendous
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 09:14 AM) Sneak Peek at the 2009 Version pretty cool...alot of money comes off those books after next season...Thome, contreras, dotel, dye (if bought out)...that right there is nearly 30 mil depending on how much philly pays thomes option
  23. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 07:47 PM) guess they can make 9=4 shirts now. haha yeah, frankly it should be 25=4 as that team has alot of guys that contribute....they have it all really, pitching, D, power, speed, bullpen, deep rotation...well constructed team...not one aspect really jumps out at you as best in the league (maybe bullpen the way they pitched this year) but really solid everywhere
  24. great, great post fathom....just about all points i am completely in agreement with (specifically the ones about the young core and playing longer than the cubs)
