  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Then he has a smaller strike zone then Eddie Gaedel. On base every time.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Tim Salmon. I know people compared him to Canseco and they look a like, but I also think his swing has a s***load of similarities to Salmon (I kept trying to figure it out the past few games and it finally hit me this morning). http://youtube.com/watch?v=loFA83ESREo i would say you are correct sir, very similar stances...little bit of an uppercut swing, especially on the low pitch... btw its always amazing to me how much of a local hero tim salmon was to the angel fans, but i guess he did play his whole career there and was fairly decent
  3. I love baseball. The game was just over last night, and I get my fix again this afternoon. Although we have an offday tomorrow...its so much better than bball or football where you have to wait at least 3 days or a whole week for the next game...i watched the game last night, went to bed, got up went to class, and the lineup for todays game is already out
  4. QUOTE(hi8is @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) he's one of the only sox on the roster that im extreemly interested in, if only for the fact that i know very little about him i got the basics down, safe bet to translate to a solid everyday pro productive minor league numbers top draft pick yada yada yada but as you guys know, its much different reading about someone and seeing them do their thing this kids has excited me. i wanna see him play until he faulters, and im not sure if he will. very true hi8us....however i believe there is a difference with Carlos....mainly much of the hype surrounding this guy isnt from a message board, or even from the upper management in the front office like many sox prospects...the hype from quentin came nationally from baseball america, BP and others...not to mention unlike our top prospects who have all had issues with stirke zone judgement, quentin excelled at....and alot of sabrmetricians (and even regular scouts for that matter) agree that ability to command the strike zone in the minors is the best indicator of future major league success...so while anderson was our #1 pick who we all heard alot about, quentin is a totally different animal...anderson was a "tools" guy, while quentin had the stats and tools
  5. i've been one of the biggest advocates of playing carlos quentin since day 1 of that trade...i loved the deal right away and ive stated my reasons many times on here...here they are again 1 year before we got quentin, he was nearly untouchable...he was the dbacks #1 prospect, torched the minor leagues, and came up and hit 14 HR in a little more than half a season a the big league level while putting up a respectable .350 obp (pretty good for his first time looking at major league pitching)....KW took advantage of a ridiculously packed young OF in arizona and got him cheap Carlos Quentin's worst full season in the minors, came at AAA as a 21 year old .301/.422/.520....to compare, Quentin's worst season came at a younger age than Josh Fields best season of .305/.379/.505....and his season was probably still better....Quentin's minor league totals of .312/.427/.526...that obp indicates not only that he had a great knowledge of the strike zone, but all the walks suggested that his numbers would translate very well to the major leagues...he was basically a premier on base prospect and had good natural power When he was coming out of the minors, Quentin was just about the safest bet among scouts to become a .280 20 HR guy of anyone in the minors at the time....add in the fact that he is a ++ athlete (I believe a Football All-American in High school as well), defends well with a good arm (save the dropped fly last night) What do I think he can become? Its always a gamble, but I think right away you can expect a Xavier Nady type player, with the chance to become a jermaine dye, Raul Ibanez, or vernon wells type offensive player
  6. swisher........... on base alot, wore down pitchers, got us an early lead, and played great D
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:43 PM) Right now, he is our best option at leadoff. But if we could somehow manage to get someone like Roberts, and move Swisher down, that'd be fantastic. i agree, it would be nice to get roberts...but right now, im hoping we hold on to whatever trade chips that we have in the minors til some pitching becomes available...if we are still in contention it would be nice to be able to get another starter to fill in for whoever in that back end will struggle
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:39 PM) Carlos Quentin was my favorite acquisition in the offseason, and if healthy, he will be the best IMO. Just so much power. I also like how when I want Ramirez to start, Uribe has a fantastic day defensively, and somehow gains the patience to draw 2 BB's (he did draw 2 right?). Buehrle, pitching smart like he does 90% of time. Very good to see. And while I would still like Swisher moved down to the middle of the order, those 1st AB homers are a great way to start off a game offensively. i like swisher right where he is...hes on base a ton and thats really what i want hitting in front of thome and co.
  9. some truths about the detroit tigers.... they are a bad defensive team. cabrera, guillen, jacque are all subpar defenders even magglio is bad now.... their bullpen is god awful...on paper worse than ours last year, probably wont perform that bad (how can any pen be as bad in reality as ours last year), but still horrendous their SP is overrated...rogers old, bonderman really not that good (best ERA in career 4.08, then 4.57), willis cant throw strikes, robertson a decent major league pitcher, and verlander very good pitcher who we for some reason dominate Offense..should be solid but pudge and sheff on the downside of their careers....magglio and polanco won't hit .363 and .341 again...and granderson probably wont go 20-20-20-20 again...pudge doesnt walk, neither does jacque jones (who also only had 5 HR at wrigley last year in 135 games)....also you have miguel cabrera adjusting to a new and tougher league they arent as bad as 0-6, but they arent as good as alot of people think, or at least thought
  10. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 11:15 PM) Nice Sweep. That'll be crazy if the Tigers are still winless when we play in a few days. with rogers vs. daisuke, bonderman vs. lester and robertson vs. wakefield...its possible...they also could win all three though
  11. the twins lineup is pretty bad right now...especially outside the heart of mauer morneau and young....cuddyer is on the DL...hopefully it will include adam everett who is maybe the worst offensive player in the game...looks like the weather should be good...if we score some runs we should be in good shape
  12. twins #1 prospect this offseason according to Baseball America
  13. yo fathom remember when you said youd be thrilled with 2-4...how 4-2 sound?
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 08:05 PM) You see taking 4 bases is better than a guy hitting a dribbler, then attempting to steal 2nd base. OBP+Power > Medicore+Speed Say no to Owens. haha i love it...i might make that my sig
  15. meanwhile chris berman continues to be awful at anything other than half time shows for NFL....why is he even on baseball tonight?
  16. i think this is almost a must win for detroit....they head to fenway next, and if they dont win tonight they could very easily come into the Cell on Friday at 1-8...
  17. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:03 PM) C-Pudge LF-Thames DH-Sheff RF-Maggs 3B-Cabrera 1B-Guillen SS-Edgar CF-Inge 2B-Santiago Pudge is exactly the guy I would want leading off for me in a 5 game losing streak..... lol swisher has 1 fewer walk this year than pudge had all of last year
  18. QUOTE(shipps @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) Iam a taller version of Turtle from Entourage. so you look like russell martin.....haha ive also been told i look like turtle on several occasions this is me from two years ago...my hair is longer and i shave routinely now
  19. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) I'd love to see this: Swisher LF Cabrera SS Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Quentin RF Anderson CF Ramirez 2B dye needs to be in there...hes 9 for 20 with 3 HR lifetime off of verlander
  20. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) Looks like Broadway wants to be the sixth starter. hes gonna be throwing some important innings at the big league level at some point this season, so im glad hes off to a good start
