QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) Heilman has put up some great K rates for an RP and can even start if needed. Sanchez isn't a control freak either, in fact his BB/9 rates are worse than Heilmans' Sanchez BB/9: 4.10 Heilman BB/9: 3.0 Down the line, you'd like to have a guy like Heilman who's so icredubly verstile. Sanchez is good, but why trade for a RP when you can trade for a SP/RP? And Heilman hasn't been as bad as advertised. He has had 2 really bad outings and his ERA has inflated becuase of it. this is exactly why i would be hesitate to deal for any of them...they both walk way too many hitters....i know its the NL where IBB are more frequent, but they are late inning guys who wouldnt IBB to get to a pitcher with a pinch hitter likely coming up....the walks would scare me off of sanchez a bit

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 01:48 AM) Yes it matters, it's a rookie improving, that's huge short-term and long-term. This guy could be a huge reason as to why the White Sox take the lead in the divisional race and end up winning it. I would also guess that he's at .250 by the end of the year. To do that, he'd have to hit about .315 for the rest of the year, given 350 ABs. I think it's very possible for that to happen. you guys misinterpreted the meaning of my post...i do think brian should be playing and i realize hes important...i do think he will end up hitting around .225-.230 by the end of the year, and i am happy with his recent performance, but what my intent was.....i im not going to celebrate that he got back to .200, because im not gonna cheer for something that we are only celebrating for the sole reason that brian was so miserable early in the year -

QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) "Almost August"? It's July 16. There is half the month of July left. What calendar do you use? Give me a break. :headshake does it matter....its not like july 16 is something to be happy about...we are 91 games into the season...and thats the point, not that its almost august -

whupdeef***in doo......its almost august...i know hes still hittin like .340 in july, and he is coming around, but 3.5 months of batting .200 is something im not celebrating -
I really think the cubs would take a sack of marbles for henry blanco, and althoughhe cant hit, at least he gives you excellent defense, whereas widger cant hit and cant throw

its abundantly clear to me that 1.) with our starters not going deep, there is a need for another bullpen arm, simply in terms of numbers, and 2.) ross gload does nothing for this team rob mackowiak can't do.....that said i think its time to take another look at tracey, even if its for mop up duty

in no way is this post saying that we could get milledge, but since hes been discussed so much let me say that I think he is one of the most overrated prospects in baseball.....anytime any prospect in the bosox, mets, yankees system puts up good numbers, they become the next fill in the blank, and prospects like chris young who in my opinion will be the superior player to milledge are talked about far less often, so the general consensus is that milledge is a sure fire stud this is not to say hes not a good, even great prospect, but so many people tend to overrate him and say hes a sure fire stud

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Any trade we make that gets rid of Garcia would be terrific! He's so washed-up, and it wouldn't shock me if his ERA reaches 6 by the end of the season. We'd be a better team with McCarthy in the rotation and adding another reliever. and not only that but dropping the 10 mil garcia is owed next year would free up some money to patch up some holes this offseason

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Minaya wouldn't trade Milledge for Zito. Why would he trade him for 2 guys that are considerably worse than Zito? because for as young as that mets offense is with reyes beltran and wright, glavine pedro and wagner are all nearing the end, as the deadline comes, teams get more desperate, minaya didnt know how good his team would be when he was looking at zito, now he knows, and he knows what he needs, and if he can get anotehr starter his team can truly contend with teh AL heavyweights....if he wants that starter, the best hes gonna do is garcia, cuz zito isnt gonna be traded, and i dont think schmidt will either edit: that said i do not think they will give up milledge, but its certainly a possibility

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) Well then he's going to go into the playoffs with a battered Pedro Martinez, an old Tom Glavine, and barely anyone else behind him. It's not like the Mets are in a position of power here. The White Sox are. You saw what the Reds did yesterday to acquire needs, the Mets and Omar Minaya certainly will do the same. thats exactly right, and that is what i think kenny is doing, hes creating a market for garcia or vazquez by calling the phillies, mets, rangers etc and spreading the word that these guys are available....thats what happened last year with burnett, since either of those two starters will likely be the best available starter, there will be 12 teams interested and hopefully kenny can start a bidding war, getting a good pen arm and some prospects while bmac moves into the rotation

Garcia/Vazquez for Tom Gordon being discussed

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) I agree. Getting a 5th SP like Tony Armas Jr would allow the sox to keep Bmac right in the bullpen until 2007 as well. Why mess with Bmac if getting Armas wouldn't cost that much [probably expendable guys like Haeger, Phillips]? i dont like armas too much, but whats great about haeger and phillips is that those guys have decent trade value, and virtually no value in our system right now, blocked by the guys at the show, and probably in a year or two will be behind broadway and mccullough -
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Maybe it's just me, but neither Duaner Sanchez or Heilman thrill me. The sox sure could do better than either for giving up the best SP available in this market. yeah i agree with you...i think they can do better

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:00 AM) See DBAHO. Cordero's back on track, going through a nice run after a tough start. He's had a lot of blown saves as a closer. But Tex. seems set with te guy they got from SD. hows garcia for cordero and thomas diamond sound.... that could be too much to ask for, but if texas thinks cordero is toast maybe not

1.) We already have a 5 page thread on this 2.) Olney, despite being a graduate from my proud school, must not have learned how to read, because in his Blog he paraphrases the article on the Ny paper, and says garcia or garland, when the article says garcia or vazquez
-
QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:25 AM) I agree, I agree. Freddy is toast. Vaz can still be that guy we all want him to be. i agree, i know its not a good idea to randomly throw out names in terms of steroid use, but it wouldn't shock me one bit to hear garcia was on it

White Sox scouting Chris Burke of the Astros?

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) Well we'll see what happens but shipping out starting pitching goes against everything KW and Guillen have discussed. Of course anything can happen but they have always said starting pitching is key. I don't think they chased Vazquez for 3-4 years only to give up on him after 1/2 season. i think garcia, by far, is the more likely to get shipped, supposedly in ken rosenthalls newest article it says that some in teh sox organization feel like vazquez is primed to have the best second half of any of hteir pitchers -
QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) I would take my chances of getting burned by one of our pitchers who has a 5 ERA and can't hold runners on base. The mets would need to make it for one, we would need to make it for two and getting a Reliever and a prospect (assuming) would be the right price. In addition, an assumption might be made that we would be done trading which I do not think would be the case. actually I think the Sox would be doing damage control in the locker room today. I am sure KW will be in there saying "now don't you believe everything in those newspapers" yeah ken rosenthall seems to think that garcia would be a good possibility for a proven reliever and a starting pitcher who would be ready by 08.... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5782994 QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) Read every quote Kenny has made in the past year or so and tell me that you think he would deal one of our starters for a reliever right now. Kenny has said that McCarthy will be in the rotation in 07. Someone will be gone if not at the deadline than at the end of the year, I think most of us believe that is the case. I think since so many teams will be desperate for pitching at the deadline, that the deadline is the time to do it instead of the offseason. I also feel like Brandon will be able to do a better job than Garcia in the rotation, and that a guy like heilman or sanchez would be every bit as good as bmac was in the pen...so no real loss.

im shocked at t his....lopez coulda brought more back in a deal himself....brendan harris is trash, he was one of the guys moved fromt he cubs for nomar....ryan wagner has huge upside....i just dont get it

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Its definitely slander. You throw words like "skinhead", "racist", "white supremecist" and "drunk" around like that, you should have some proof behind it. This article has absolutely no evidence behind these claims, and doesn't even conclude to anything. So basically, you have an article that had nothing to say other than Bobby Jenks might be a really bad person, with absolutely nothing to prove it. Not sure how much stock the national media puts into s*** posted on Page 2, but if this started circulating around, Jenks should definitely seek legal action. technically libel

QUOTE(Beltin @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:04 AM) I think he means five or more games where the entire rotation would be tested. minnesota could beat us in a 5 game series where they could set their rotation

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) Sweet mother of God. Another f***ing Rowand rumor. Too much manlove for a player that a lot of people on this site wanted gone 2 years ago because he couldnt hit a slider, and crashed his dirtbike in the offseason. not to mention, as far as we know this entire rumor came from pure SPECULATION from buster olney..he said the sox would probably liek to have him back....at least the schmidt rumor had two supposed sources

no way buerhle contreras and garland combine for 31-2 record

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) Agree, and if the White Sox make a deal they'll be looking to add, vs. trading pieces off their major league roster, even if a few of the current cast are underachieving. Think prospects when looking at possible trades. They may want to bolster the bullpen, they may want an ace starter and push everyone down a spot, and they may want another reserve OF. There's not much out there right now but things will probably heat up in 10 days. im not 100% sold on the fact that KW wont trade something from the current roster......a 5th starter like vazquez would bring a good amount back in return, and if we get a solid righty arm in the pen, mccarthy will do just as well a vazquez. in addition, that fifth starter wont pitch in the playoffs, so a guy who is used to coming out of the pen would be more valuable than vazquez out of the pen in the playoffs.....personally id rather see garcia moved actually.....not sayin this will happen, or should happen, but i think its a possibility, and i wouldnt be pissed if it did happen....especially since there will be 12 teams lining up for another starter at the deadline, and we could probably get a huge package in return Edit: for clarification, i dont think that a starter will be dealt for rowand unless we get a guy like gordon as well
-
QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Rumors are going around that the Phillies may deal CF Aaron Rowand back to the White Sox for pitcher Javier Vazquez and UTL player Rob Mackowiak. Then next season letting LF Scott Podsednik walk and have Rowand in left and Anderson in center with Dye holding down right. I am hoping on hope that they bring back A-Row and put him and Anderson in the lineup at the same time. Anderson is begining to hit and his defense is great. Fingers Crossed 1.) Vazquez and mackowiak are worth more than Rowand 2.) The only way i see this happening is if we get another quality arm in the pen in this deal and mo ve brandon to the rotation. 3.) What makes you say this is closer than we think?

I'm finally off of the Podsednik bandwagon (long)
