QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) I'll take the ring. haha no arguement from me...i just think 05 sox w/jones > 05 sox w/rowand...but thats a moot point....what iwas tryin to say is 06 sox w/jones > 06 sox w/Thome

Remember when the sox were talking to atlanta about russ ortiz and andruw jones. If i remember correctly, the day the sox beat the cubs (maddux vs. loaiza...sosa hit two bombs but the sox still won) there were rumors that magglio would be traded to atlanta for those two, which later on that day proved to be a false front as after that game the sox traded for garcia...i digress.....anyways the point is even during last offseason the sox were still interested in andruw jones....atlanta wanted rowand but the sox wouldnt do it.....while i cant complain since we won the series, those 51 homers woulda been nice and id rather have andruw than thome going into this year http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5116520

Official Re-sign Paul Konerko Thread
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) He's being overpayed in both cases. agreed.....in 5 years i guarantee konerko will not be worth 15 million a year....in fact in 2 years konerko wont be worth 15 million a year. Kenny has done a great job at not overpayign players. in kennys history he has not signed one player to a truly bad contract. its just stupid to pay a guy like konerko superstar money for 5 years when in fact he has only been a "superstar" for 1-2 years in his 8 year career. It seems he has reached his peak now at the age of 28 and 29, which is expected, but a good projection says when he hits 31, he will regress to hitting .280 with 25 homers, hardly worth 15 million when you could have a prospect like anderson hitting .260 and 20 homers for 1 million by that time

Prospects for Players
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) What are your thoughts on Chris Young? Where does he fit in? Will one of them move to a corner OF position? Maybe when Jermaine Dye leaves? young imo is still not proven enough...hes got the best upside, and his power is impressive..it was nice to see his walks increase last year..hopefully a decrease in strikeouts is the next step. Ive read that anderson long term will move to a corner, probably right with the arm that he has. Young is more fit for center field

Which would mean more? Profit or Winning?
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) If you were truly interested in profits, you wouldn't be investing in a pro sports team. Most have underperformed the market. Most owners went into it as a very expensive hobby after amassing a fortune in their "first career". this is from gammons...so i know some of you will dismiss it, but its largely fact based and it applies here....he said 2/3rds of teams were profitable in 05...a very good read http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2229099

Congratulations
QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) miami just dosent support the team...evidence shown, no new stadium, low ticket sales, cant sell out post-season games it would be a damn shame for that area to not have a baseball team ....since baseball has gone global and has such a strong latin presence i think a team could thrive there, but they need a stadium closer...but the fact of teh matter is that you gotta make money if you are a team and if they arent in florida then a move is necessary...i hope they can retain the marlins

Which would mean more? Profit or Winning?
if im the owner i have to make money first....thats why i invest in a team....as a fan i dotn see any of that 25 mil...so obviously winning....but if im an owner i try to win and make a profit because as was stated winning makes more profit...

Free agent resource.
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 27, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) I saw free agent list and wondered if anyone was intrested in Joe Randa the only way id want him signed is if the crede injury is more serious than we could think, or if he is traded. either way id rather have mueller....on a side note though didnt crede play hsi best ball when he was "hurt"

BJ Ryan to Blue Jays for.....
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 26, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Even if he has a better year than last year and does it for several years, it is hard to justify a 5 year contract for a 30 yr old reliever who has one year as a closer under his belt for $47 Million no less. Me likey KW! yeah spending that much on any reliever is flat dumb. i can see if it was same money per year for shorter years, but damn 10 mil for a closer? its the most overrated position in baseball....all sorts of guys can pop up outa nowhere and do it

Can you guys tell me about Gonzalez and Haigwood?
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) That would be sweet as an aside....did gio gonzalez remind anyone else of arnie munoz? thats the comparison i cant get out of my head when referring to sox minor leaguers

Can you guys tell me about Gonzalez and Haigwood?
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Gio has more upside and is probably a year away from coming up. I don't know how that will translate to the NL though. Here are my feelings... Haigwood was a relative unknown entering the season...a long shot prospect. he put up good numbers at high A earned a promotion to AA where he was hot hot hot. left handed, medium build, soft thrower 89-91, good breaking pitches, decent change up, good feel for pitching. He definintely needs to prove he can do it again at AAA before i would call him a top prospect. Gonzalez - alot of scouts say hes one of the most underrated prospects in the game. one of the best curveballs from the 04 draft. was projected as a 1st round pick out of high school but he fell to the supplemental round because he sat out most of his senior year after a fight with his coach about his brothers playing time. Hes skinny, but young (20) so some feel he'll get bigger. he doesnt blow hitters away but can run his fastball to 93, with his big tight overhand curve, and a developing change. Make up is an issue as is health, as he hasnt had the best record of staying healthy. he has had great K:IP ratios, is still very young, and is lefthanded, so a good prospect. Two nice lefties to slide behind cole hammels in the philly organization. At best for the two, Gonzalez if he stays healthy will be be an above average big league starter IMO and haigwood still has to prove that the second half of 05 was no mirage, and then id project him as a #3-5 starter

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) Maybe Borchard could be the PTBNL instead of Gio. haha philly did see him hit that 504 footer off of myers

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) You know, I think Borchard deserves a chance to try and get a spot on the 25-man in '06. He showed some results in the latter part of '05 that he hadn't shown before. you and i are gonna get laughed at on this board but i personally dont disagree with you. i think borchard could still add some power to some team..just not us. i think he could be a jeromy burntiz type player still

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) Good to know Anderson can play CF. Did he play CF in the minors? I apologize Timo being the starting CF should be in green. yeah anderson played CF for charlotte and played there in birmingham too....i know alot of the scouts liked him better as a RF though...but the same thing was said about rowand when he first came up to the big leagues as well...in fact rowand started out as a corner guy and moved to center

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Trades'll do that. Jason engineered this trade because of the lack of visitors. Tough to tell. Won't really lose much defensively. His bat is more of a question mark. rowand only hit 12 homers with a crappy obp last year...i personally feel anderson will add more power, probably wont hit for as high an average as rowand at .270, but look for a crede like year out of anderson.....250ish with 15-20 HRs

White Sox acquire Jim Thome per ESPNnews
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) How good of an CFer is Brian Anderson? In theory, even Carl Everett could play Cf as he did with the Rangers. But could BA be an average to above average CF? I would hate to see them back off on BA in May and have Ozzie's buddy Timo as our new starting CF. anderson will play over timo, no doubt. the one thing i question with anderson is his range which is certainly not as good as rowands....but his arm is +++.....one of the top OF arms in the minor leagues
