  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) There's a difference between a .765 career OPS and an .822 career OPS. .057 points of OPS is pretty big. Michaels won't be a role player with the Indians, he will be their starting right fielder. Now whether or not he is good as a full-time starter is the question. But I'd rather have Michaels than a bum like Jock Jones or Juan Encarnacion. I can see why the Indians are making this move. They probably got tired of seeing balls fly over Casey Blake's head and would rather stick him in LF. id take juan encarnacion over michaels
  2. this game is suite...a bunch of my friends are on the vandy baseball team, its fun as hell playin with em
  3. of all sabremetrics, their defensive ratings are the most valuable and the best. Aarons D in center will certainly be missed. What people need to realize is just how important range in the OF is. If a shortstop makes an error its 1 base. If an OF doesnt get to a ball, its 2 maybe 3 bases, not to mention runners scoring. its one of the reasons why fielding percentage is a terrible stat by itself. i sat down a figured it out one time, using zone ratings that the difefrence between the best shortstop fldg% wise and the worst was something like 22 errors, so 22 unconverted outs. Range wise the diff between the top and bottom was something like 37 unconverted outs. its essentially the reason why beane said jose valentin wasnt half as bad an infielder as most thought
  4. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) I want Davis, but he won't be available, so I want Lewis. Who do you guys like Lewis or Pope, or even Fasano/Byrd? lewis > pope > fasano ...im not a big fasano fan....id look for daniels to move up that board too...ill bet hes got near the fastest 40 time on that list
  5. QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 07:05 PM) Goodbye Bears. They deserved it!!!!!! all the experts said grossman needed to give the D 21 points .....looks like they were wrong

  7. QUOTE(rventura23 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) according to baseball-reference.com Chris played in 2005 with TB and got 16 hits. Hes only 33. ill bet 9 of those hits were against us
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) Chris Singleton is one of the top-rated radio broadcast prospects in the system. He's a four-tool broadcaster. He has above average range, a pleasant voice, he's excellent defensively, and can talk for some power. He was a second-round draft selection and a lot is expected of him. He also shows nice speed out there on the :30 readers. I think the organization showed their confidence in Singleton when they traded both Rowand and Young. I'm pretty confident he'll be able to step in and contribute. I am worried about his bat-speed though. yeah but i heard a projection that said he'll have a strong rookie season, finishing runner up for rookie of the year flashing .300 average with 20 HR 20 SB potential , and then fall off the face of the planet i guess when we shipped chris off we got willie, now we ship willie off and chris is back seriously though...i have no idea what chris will be like i suppose its nice having an ex ballplayer and a former sox do it....god anythings gotta be better than mike north
  9. QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) The front is weak? Does "front" in this case mean 6th/7th inning guys? Because we still have, Jenks, Cotts, Politte, and (if healthy) Hermanson. yes...........jennks cotts politte hermanson = back end of the bullpen
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 08:10 PM) That is somewhat of a myth, because a pitcher never gets the exact same amount of days off. It is normally 4 or 5 days off, with a few 6 day stretches. Here is Buerhle's rest from 2005: 4 days off x 16 games (4 losses and 3 bad starts with ND) 5 days off x 13 games (4 losses and 1 bad start with ND) 6 days off x 3 games (3-0) Try to figure out which one is better for him. Since 6 is too small of a sample size you can throw that one out, but you could make a case for giving him 5 days off with a couple of 6 days off once a month or so. Each pitcher is different and some prefer the same amount of rest off, but I don't think there is too much difference between 4 days and 5 days off. So I can imagine B-Mac being plugged into a lot of spots when there are only 4 days off for the starting 5. That would give all of them more 5 day rests. So based off of Mark's rest numbers from 2005, B-Mac would get around 16 starts, and then be used as long relief when he is not starting to keep his arm fresh. If his is dominating in a few of those starts and someone else is struggling, I can see them moving the other to the bullpen. i even think the 4 days rest and 5 days rest are too small of a sample size....3 bad outings vs. 1 is simply to small of numbers to have meaning...at least standing by tehmselves....for example it could have happened that he had those bad starts against the yankees etc.

    Films

saw hostel...its a terrible movie. its one of those movies that you see just to see. its not that the gore gets to you....its just that its kinda weird/creepy when they torture the people. at any rate...the first half of the movie is just to get people to watch because of the boobs and the second half is just to get people to watch because of the gore/torture. stupid plot that takes a long time to develop, and really poor job at developing characters, and yes it kind of just ends really fast...almost seems like were running out of film and just had to end it as fast as they could. i just thought it was alltogether a bad movie
  12. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 05:01 PM) so far we have had plenty of discussions about the possibility of bmac either going to the pen as a reliever, or being inserted as the fifth starter if the count was dealt. assuming contreras stays, what would you like bmac's role to be this year? long reliever, spot starter, sixth starter? essentially what do you think would be the best way to use him to help the team as well as help his personal development as a player.

  14. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) damn crook took our million bucks and spent 2005 in AAA. Wasnt he an overall #1 draft pick? Let the Yankees have him and his gigantic hole in his swing. #2 overall i believe...and he didnt even play for AAa which was teh worst part, i think he was hurt most of the year
  15. what bull.. that article really pisses me off.....there is a reason iguchi hit .340 with 25+ bombs over there and .270 15 here.
  16. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) I swear that new poster Andytheclown wrote this statement almost verbatim a few weeks ago. yeah he did post that exact same thing...but so what? which is more plausible? that some guy who runs mlbtraderumors happens to read every single rumor on soxtalk and randomly took a rumor from a guy with 11 total posts and published it on his website? OR He is andy the clown and his source is legit, or they both heard the same things from a solid source. I dont understand why everyone wants to discount this mlbtrade rumors guy just because andy the clown had a similar rumor a few days ago
  17. *submits vote to rename thread Rock vs. Adam G.....Prior or count and how to win a message board arguement*
  18. just a thought before it happens.....can we try to not make this a 25 page thread that contains one rumor and countless pages of pointless arguement?
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 31, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Brian Anderson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Willy Taveras This proposed deal would make no sense to me. i dont understand it completely either, but the only sense i can make of it is this... Dye is only signed through the end of this year. I believe Podsedniks contract is up soon as well. Anderson may have to shift to right if dye leaves. Sweeney certainly probably wont be ready for another 2 years, and at this point owens is certainly not a guarantee, neither is anderson for that matter. Tavaras is a proven OFer and he would help ease concerns if some of the current OFers leave via free agency.
  20. My thoughts.... 1.) This deal makes sense from both the White Sox and JGs point of view. For the sox, they had to work out a deal with jon, at least a 1 year deal. After Foulke, they won't go to arbitration with another player if they dont have to. So they were gonna resign him for at least 1 year, why not go to 3. For jon...this puts him in an identical situation to furcal. He can sign this contract, and still go out at the age of 29 and get another huge long term deal while he is still in his prime. If he signed a 5-6 year deal now, that might be his last big time deal. This ensures him one more long deal, and probably a shorter deal afterwards. 2.) This probably makes Garland MORE likely to be traded now. 1 day ago the market for garland was only teams who would be willing to gamble to rent Garland for one year and hope they could resign him. Now, teams should be lined up to trade for him, since he is relatively affordable for 3 years, and in his prime. 3.) Whether the sox trade Garland or keep him, this is a great deal. Signing him only brings back more talent in a trade. If we keep him, we have a reasonably priced effective pitcher. 4.) Is it possible, that contreras will be moved to the pen? The sox originally wanted Contreras in 2004 real early in april to be the closer, and there was talk about it before....just a thought probably not though... on a side note...i dont hate the vazquez trade at all...i watched his highlights on whitesox.com the other night...the dude is just flat nasty.
  21. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Maybe the Sox should trade Garland to Seattle and get Jeremy Reed back and some bullpen help. haha not to mention miguel olivo is available....honestly thats not a bad idea...everyone loves the widge, but why not sign olivo as our backup again??
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) 2nd. 3rd
  23. i would not at all be disappointed with this deal...other than the fact that teh cubs get tejada at this point id rather have bedard than say hayden penn from the orioles. bedard should be a solid major league pitcher, left handed, cheap, and we would control him i believe for 2-3 years. is he mark buerhle? no, but hell be kenny rogers for a few years at under a million and we free up the 9 million that garland would make. besides im sure we would be gettin some sort of prospect in that deal. i just dont think at all that baltimore would give up bedard now. he was the guy they wouldnt give up last year for hudson or mulder, so why would they give him up now?
  24. before i go reading this thread is there anything worthwhile in here other than what bruce said? any real rumors from any newspapers or anything, or just a bunch of peoples ideas?
  25. QUOTE(Ricky3353 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:46 PM) Im sure most of you guys know more about baseball than i do, so how good is Chris Young gonna be? I know the Sox have Anderson and Jerry Owens, but Young was suppossed to be the fastest and the youngest. I really hope we didnt give away Andruw Jones here. Anyway, in Kenny I Trust, so im not gonna worry abou the trade too much. highest upside of any of the OFers in our system. rotoamerica had him as the number 11 overall prospect in all of baseball....ahead of the likes of verlander, barton, conor jackson, andy laroche, pie, quentin, zimmerman etc etc.....if he fills out his frame more, still only 21, he could be a stud. remember he was one of the younger players in teh southern league, and made the jump from low A, and played in a big time pitchers park. joe sheehan of baseball prospectus said he needs to cut down his K rate, but he increased his walk rate last year, so a decrease in Ks could be the next step. essentially hes gonna be a good lpayer in the bigs, maybe even a great one
