QUOTE(SnB @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) -I'll post the name of a relatively obscure white sox player from the past -you post a memory/moment that you remember about him -you post your own player I'll get it started with....... LORENZO BARCELO 2000 season the sox are playin anaheim and barcelo comes in and gives up a slam to mo vaughn. sox down 8-2. come back in the 8th and 9th to win 9-8. one of a long series of great comeback victories in 2000 for teh sox BRIAN SIMMONS

QUOTE(travelinman89 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) I sure hope the Sox don't look at Urbina. Dont forget he was charged with attempted murder. that doesnt necessarily mean hes a bad clubhouse guy

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) MT has one of the best, if not the best, attitudes. His rivals that of only Pujols that I can think of off the top of my head. yeah i agree. supposedly tejada is a great teammate. when sosa came in to baltimore all the stupid media analysts asked if sosa would have too big an ego and they all said tejada will keep him in line

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:43 AM) Yeah, something about it makes all breaking stuff less effective. That's why when McCarthy's curve was working well last year in ST, people were raving about him. actually it shouldnt...phoenix is not up in teh mountains like tucson is. arizona's ball park is a fairly nuetral park, favors pitchers slightly. but the thin air doesnt exist there. Tucson is a different story and that is why the sox want to move out of there

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) The more I think about this trade the move I like it. There are teams that are supposed to be competative teams that are scrambling for solid 4th or 5th starters. Now KW has 6 solid starters. He can either stay where he is or hold all the cards in a potential deal. Look at the Cardinals, they made the NLCS last year, and they lost Matt Morris, how do you think their fans feel right now? They would likely give up a ton to get JG. good point...i think the cards wouldnt give up much major league talent though, and i dont think the sox are gonna want anythign but major league talent for garland

hows about jon garland for ron artest

i can see tomorrows ESPN headlines... Yankees think about Nomar for 1b Chisox acquire Vazquez
-
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) How about Garland for Kotsay? 0_o with the exception of his ground balls...garland is the anti billy beane pitcher though...low Ks..previously had the propensity to walk batters
-
i just want to say the sox must really be high on anderson, they not only cleared the guy in front of him, but also the guy behind him...not to mention jeremy reed. KW and the gang must really think brian is the real deal. we shall see
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) Exactly. Even if Garland doesn't even have a good season in 2006, he's still going to get paid. And if he repeats on his 2005 season, he is going to break the bank. Garland and his agent would have to have the collective IQ of a fish to agree to a crappy 3-year deal with the Sox now. KW has to weigh the value of having Garland for likely only one season or Vazquez for three seasons. exactly.....this is from gammons a week or so ago... if you add up the info id say the sox are trying to deal garland...Garland already shot down the sox contract extention, from his comments KW is impatient, and either wants to lock up the pitchers or move on...garland is gonna cost a ton, and right now vazquez would cost less than he would on the free agent market...the sox have recently tried to stay one step ahead of the market, and this would be no different. add in the fact that the sox have tried to get vazquez in the past, and id say this rumor has more truth to it than most

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Was it the other Moviel the Sox drafted that you talked to? yeah, greg

QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Iirc, Eddie Gaedel was number 1/8 was that the midget?

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) I also tend to agree from Great Falls to Birmingham in the off season is quite a jump I can't say I have seen that kind of jump by a pitcher but who knows with a bullpen that is so unsettled it could happen i wont disagree with you guys...it is a big jump..all i can say is that is what his brother told me. its possible there was some miscommunication or thats just what has been said thus far..im just sayin what i heard.

i can tell you for a fact that paul moviel will be on the AA birmingham roster....i talked to his brother today, they told him he would start at AA. im not sure whether it will be in teh pen or as a starter

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) We aquried a LHP from the Rule 5 draft.. Maybe that is what we are doing? we actually lost LHP in rule 5...other than that we got back tim hummel, a catcher and a right handed pitcher who was inteh AA portion of the draft

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) I've learned recently the most important aspect of Williams' trades, atleast those which may appear lopsidded or unequal, are the events which occur afterwards. Trading Vizcaino and Podsednik for a fair priced Carlos Lee didn't apper very equal, but the financial flexibility alloted to Williams gave us Iguchi, Pierzynski, Hernandez. This trade, at it's face value, doesn't do much for me. Marte has proven himself as a valuable left-handed relief pitcher with the ability to dominate both LH and RH batters. Mackowiak, at his best, is a versatile option off the bench. More should have been netted; especially during the current trade market for relief pitchers. Pittsburgh took advantage of our willingness to unload Marte. If Williams signs Myers, however, the trade is justified. i agree 100 %

wow...i have alot to say about this thread.... 1.) rosenthall is not on crack he writes alot but its my opinion he is far more reputable than levine or gammons. what he writes is usually good stuff, and usually with good sources, and he does his homework. Id rather a guy write 9 articles a day that are legit than a guy like gammons who writes once about the red sox every two weeks 2.) on Hoffman and howry. both deals arent very good. howrys K rate regressed drastically last year, and hoffman is grossly overpaid. 8 mil for a 38 year old closer moving from the biggest pitchers park in the NL to a hitters park in the AL is gonna spell doom. when he is 41 he wont be worth 3 mil let alone 8. 3.) Dayn perry - ok, this guy...perhaps bigger hypocrite than mariotti. Hes a stat head, and bashed the sox for their low obp ways all of last year, yet when the sox trade a guy with 96 career walks and 1600+ ABs for a career .409 OBP power hitting first basemen he says we were suckered. Then he says we overpaid for Konerko. THEN he gives us the highest offseason grade (tied for highest at least) of any team in teh AL. 4.) as far as kenny williams not raelly working on any moves this winter meetings....yeah right kenny, thats just not his style. hes always working on something, whether they are realistic or not is another issue, but hes working.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) Meet the Mets.... Come on down and meet the Mets........ quit complaining everyone...right now the mets are the most active team out there and they have had the most interesting past few days. they should talk about them the most because right now tehy are the biggest story in offseason baseball. just be glad we arent a team like the rockies who never get talked about
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Did Gammons say this recently or was it before we had re-signed Konerko? Because adding Glaus now wouldn't make much sense. it was from an article today dated today
