contreras and dye for abreu and gavin floys?!?
daa84 replied to samclemens's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) At least we get to see your avatar a bit more. a valid observation -
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Not a great performance? 7 2/3 shutout innings against them best offense in baseball in their home park? haha sorry i didnt mean it like that...it certainly was a great performance, what i meant was that it was more that 1 AB that stood out in my mind, but in all honesty it might have been the best total performance as well
-
not a great performance, but one of the best pictures left in my mind was brandon pitching against boston, and i want to say it was to varitek or trot nixon, and he started out changeup, curve ball, fastball, curve, change and the batter looked lost on every single pitch that was thrown. To me it was teh AB that signified that Bmac had what it takes not only to pitch in the bigs but to make big league hitters look plain silly

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) C Lee is an FA next year correct? If he makes it to that period, I wouldnt be surprised to see him with the flubs. yeah thats a possiblity...either way can we just close this thread. its useless

they are gonna try to trade borchard i think. in my opinion they cant do it now because other teams are gonna wait because they know if hedoesnt make the team they can pick him up for nothing since he has no options left. My guess is that the sox will then put him on teh big league roster, proving to other teams that they arent gonna just let him loose. at this point the sox will still have to settle for less in a trade, and will either get something crappy for him, or simply wont find a match and just cut him. either way hes not gonna end up on the sox after 1 month and either grieve or gload will end up as the 4.5th OFer (with ozuna and mack makin up the other .5)

Base Stealer Intangibles by Hardball Times
daa84 replied to Frank the Tank 35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) I don't think this has been posted. Good read, a lot of stats for all you stat-heads to ponder. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...ngibles-part-1/ http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...ngibles-part-2/ seems like a good study...my biggest problem with it is that it neglects the fact that a base hit with a "stealer" on first will result more often in teh runner getting to third than with a normal "runner" on first. while theoretical runs created due to the hitter hitting in the study is based entirely on batting statistics of that hitter. id like to see actual runs created because i believe the fact that a stealer being on base will advance to third on more balls than a non stealer will greatly increase the number of total runs scored, especially with under 2 outs as described in teh study. Also presumably, the guys batting after the stealer, iguchi for example, are already probably going to see an increase in the pitcher being flustered because he will not want to face the 3-4 hitters with another man on. i like some of the things that are said, but its so hard to take everything into consideration. it also fails to mention the fact taht presumably with a "stealer" on base, especially int eh consideration of iguchi and castillo (who has the largest # of ABs with a stealer on) that many of teh outs that tehy produce are due to sacrifice bunts. What also should be taken into account is the fact that on ground balls hit the stealer will often force the defense to take the one out at 1st instead of turning a double play, thus resulting in a stealer on 2nd whereas a normal runner would almost certainly draw the throw, and subsequent out at 2b, thus resulting in either a double play, or a simply a runner at 1b instead of 2b. overall not bad stuff, but if you make a study like this you have to take all things into account, and look at reality as oposed to theoretical runs due to the batting stats of the hitter -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Feb 6, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) Let's take a look at the givens on the roster....I'm sort of rambling here...but still Pitchers B/T Ht Wt DOB (10) 56 Mark Buehrle L/L 6-2 220 03/23/79 52 Jose Contreras R/R 6-4 245 12/06/71 46 Neal Cotts L/L 6-2 205 03/25/80 34 Freddy Garcia R/R 6-4 250 06/10/76 20 Jon Garland R/R 6-6 215 09/27/79 32 Dustin Hermanson R/R 6-2 200 12/21/72 45 Bobby Jenks R/R 6-3 270 03/14/81 55 Brandon McCarthy R/R 6-7 190 07/07/83 18 Cliff Politte R/R 5-10 200 02/27/74 33 Javier Vazquez R/R 6-2 215 07/25/76 Catchers B/T Ht Wt DOB (2) 12 A.J. Even throwing Borch in there gives us 22, but there's a possibility Owens could be there. So basically, there's a battle for the final 4 spots. Remaining spots: Pitchers: (10) 57 Jeff Bajenaru R/R 6-1 200 03/21/78 49 Arnie Munoz L/L 5-9 175 06/21/82 61 Paulino Reynoso L/L 6-3 215 08/10/80 50 Sean Tracey L/R 6-3 210 11/14/80 58 Chad Bentz R/L 6-2 210 05/05/80 47 Javier Lopez L/L 6-4 200 07/11/77 71 Corwin Malone R/L 6-3 200 07/03/80 65 Agustin Montero R/R 6-3 210 08/26/77 48 Stephen Randolph L/L 6-3 200 05/01/74 51 Tim Redding R/R 6-0 195 02/12/78 Infielders (2) 60 Jorge Velandia R/R 5-9 180 01/12/75 17 Ross Gload L/L 6-0 200 04/05/76 Outfielders (3) 27 Joe Borchard S/R 6-5 220 11/25/78 26 Ben Grieve L/R 6-4 215 05/04/76 7 Jerry Owens L/L 6-3 195 02/16/81 Four of those fifteen get the last spot. Who do you guys think are the lucky ones? that brings us to 22, not 21. it sounds like ozzie will carry 12, which i frankly dont agree with. Id rather have a 14th position player who can contribute by pinch running late in the game than a 12th pitcher who is only gonna get into 9-1 games. but if i had to guess ozzie is gonna have 12 pitchers, so ill say borchard makes it, unless they trade him. munoz will be out there and i guess baj. Just a guess though...im not sure why we signed grieve...isnt he just gload without as good of contact, and borchard without the power?

QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Feb 5, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) I think Detroit will be improved but not enough to contend for a play off spot. agreed....they arent close to the class of white sox or indians, but if you ask me, they are quite improved, and in all honesty i think they could contend in either west divisions. rogers will help, bonderman is another year older, jones will add depth in that pen, and verlander/zumaya could be very solid. add in a whole year of shelton and polanco, and i honestly think that team is pretty solid...remind me alot of the sox of 2001-2002, 2004

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 12:09 AM) I've heard he was working on a 2-seamer as well...but it's hardly been mentionned in the past few months except here, and mainly by me. There's a chance that they just decided they didn't want him to screw up his mechanics, but I still think him throwing a 2 seamer would be a good idea. He's got that tall, lanky frame that will let him really get on top of it. Anywho...that change up is absolutely devastating when teamed with his other pitches. That pitch is going to be his key pitch, since it makes it impossible to sit on anything else he throws, and at least thus far, people have had about as much picking it up as they have Santanas. If he can mix just a few sinkers in every game to keep people off balance...there ain't gonna be no one who can hit that kid. the scouting reports from the year mccarthy went nuts at AA and A ball all said he was working on his change and it wasnt a major league ready pitch yet. they said he got guys out by working corners, studying hitters weaknesses and dropping his big curve. what is evident now though is that his change has developed into his best pitch. i remember reading a rosenthall article that said the bosox couldnt believe that he was left off the roster, because his change up is as good as any righty has in the league. the bosox hitters said it was almost like a lefthanded curve ball or a screw ball with way more drop...comes in on righties. if you go thru the pics for sigs and look at bmacs grip on it, you can see why...he holds it with his pinky, ring finger and thumb...nuts...

ok so its been a while now, and it may finally be setting in that the sox won it all, and i was curious and bored so i was thinkin....which sox pitcher had the best performance in the postseason? in all honesty my pick is garland in game 3 vs. the angels. he gave up 2 runs, but he really dominated teh angels that game. The only runs were on the cabrera homer, which was actually a good pitch, off the corner inside. 2nd might be buerhle in game 2 vs. angels and el duque vs. bosox is up there too. what do you guys think?

QUOTE(heirdog @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 08:16 AM) No way this trade happens. As KW said, we will only trade the Count for more pitching not hitting (i.e. pitching has to be the main piece we are getting back...not Abreu). And on top of that we add in a club house leader who is inexpensive and solid...I don't think so. yeah true, whatever KW says is gonna happen via trade usually happens

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) Is this guy's "solid source close to the Phillies" just Howard Eskin of 610 WIP sports radio in Philadelphia? :headshake I knwo that site has to be taken with a grain of salt, i just still cant help get excited when i see that

QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) Arbitation or not the sox controlled him 100%. either way, im almost positive in his new contract he agreed to a clause that said he could no longer participate in any wrestling...he might be tehre just to talk it up or whatever, but im pretty sure its against hit contract to actually participate

"Vince Young will be a 2nd day pick"
daa84 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
ill bet cutler goes ahead of young, i dont think young will drop to second round, or even out of the top 10. but really young was a late first round pick before the rose bowl, and now people say he should go #1 overall, which is ridiculous. im guessin lienart goes to teh saints, cutler to the titans and young will go to the lions at 9 -
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 02:34 AM) Good center fielder, horrible shortstop... which alex gonzalez is that? i think its teh one from florida, which seems pointless to me because they have alex cora, who is the same damn player alex gonzalez is....great defensively, bad with teh stick

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Too bad. This pic is hilarious... wow i cant beleive they are giving up marte AND shoppach for crisp.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) Maroney? Keep dreaming Mel. Addai would be the Colts' RB (Edge clone IMO) IF they drafted a RB that early (I think Addai will be there in round 2 and one of Sims or Howard will be there at 30). no offense but addai is in my opinion the opposite of edge. Edge is a bruising back who wears down defenses. He lacks the speed to make huge plays, but gets abotu 4-5 yards on every play and carries the pile. Addai is a quick slasher with big play ability but is only like 5-10 or something. he will be an outside runner IMO, where as edge is mroe of a between the tackles guy (even though the colts like to attack the outside corner of those tackles).

clark is a great run blocker, to give him some credit, but at teh same time, he isnt even near close to the top recieving TEs out tehre. This is a very very weak pick

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) Maybe cause everyone knows he lied at the roids hearings... yep, first in the media he came out and said there was use all over the place and he had seen it, then at the hearings he pretty much said that he had heard about steroid use only "through the grapevine" for lack of a better term. add in to that the fact that he runs his mouth a ton, bashed a questec machine, instantly adopted a yankee hater hat before he even played 1 game in boston, speaks his mind about politics when he has just about no qualifications to and i think its pretty reasonable that he is on that list

QUOTE(SoxRock05 @ Jan 26, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) I didnt know it was brought up before....sorry....who names their kids the same name? i always thought it would be hilarious if when carlos showed up for his press conference with the brewers if his little brother showed up instead....kidna like how the sox got boned by gettin a different guy with the same last name from teh dogers a few years ago and to answer your second question...george forman

QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) Yeah I agree, that is why I omitted both on my list I believe I wrote that on the top of the list at the end of teh chat wrap in the indians top ten prospects chris kline said this.... Chris Kline: All right everyone, I'm OUT. Need to finish up the Directory so we can get it out the door. Thanks for the boatload of questions and I'll see you in the spring. Phil Rogers checks in on Wednesday with the White Sox . . . where will Jenkity-Jenks rank???? I'm as intrigued as you are . . . Have a great day--CK.
