QUOTE(Wanne @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Anybody got a definate number on the amount of cash in return?!?...$24M?!? white sox will pay half of the 12.5 due to thome in 06 and half the 14 mil due the following two seasons. so we just got thome for 20 mil for 3 years. -

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) We traded some depth, and killed 2 birds with one stone by getting a LH power at bat in the 3 hole. OMG though, we traded Rowand. We're soooooo going to finish in last place. exactly...people need to put down the crack pipe and realize we just traded for a hitter that is better than konerko -

why are people so down on this trade? we just traded a guy who will hit .280 with an OBP of .325 with 15 homers for a guy who will hit .270 with a .380 OBP and hit 30 homers conservatively....not to mention anderson next year will be the same damn player rowand was with maybe 20 pts fewer batting average -

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) For those of you worried about the clubhouse chemistry... we didn't just trade for Barry Bonds (or even Frank Thomas for that matter). We traded for Jim Thome... a player considered one of the best clubhouse people ever. Trust In KW. We are World Champs because of his offseason moves last year. iirc thome won all sorts of outstanding citizen awards and all sorts of public service awards. i was listening to a radio station a few years ago and they asked 20 players who they enjoyed talking to most when they get to base and like 13 of em said thome and say that he is just about the nicest guy they have ever played with/against -

quit whining about gio and haigwood...haigwood was a nonprospect who had a nice year gio never pitched over single A ball. This is a good deal for the sox they dump rowand when his stock is high and get thome for 6-7 mil when his stock is low. -

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) Simply put offering Carl a new deal will cost the Sox far less than signing either Piazza or Nomar. Piazza to the Sox is pure fantasy. im not entirely sure that piazza or nomar will get that great of a deal, especially nomar..he had to settle for a 1 year incentive laden deal last year to prove he was healthy, which he didnt. honestly i think all three, piazza everett and nomar will be in the 4-6 mil range. My guess is that nomar wont get more than a 2 year deal, ditto carl...but i could see piazza gettin 3

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Nov 12, 2005 -> 09:49 AM) isnt anderson considered a much bigger power prospect than reed? i guess my only point is that it seemed reed was just on an amazing (maybe even lucky although i hesitate to use that word) streak-for average his two big years in the sox farm system. anderson never seemed to be playing over his head and hit more homers....but you could be right. ding ding ding...this is exactly right. reed is a fine player, but hes an average guy who plays great D in center. Anderson is gonna be more of a power hitting corner guy...similar to dye. anderson imo will have a year like crede has had recently if he plays everyday. .240-.260 17-21 HR

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) He has a mammoth contract. '06 - $16.6M '07 - $16.6M '08 - $16.6M '09 - $16.6M '10 - $16.6M '11 - $19.1M '12 - Team Option - $23M, $4.6M buyout + has ability to void deal after 2007 and become a Free Agent, if he notifies the team of his decision by Nov. 15, 2006 + COMPLETE NO-TRADE CLAUSE giant contract, but they could get him cheap in terms of prospects. plus colorado im sure would eat some of it. id do it in a heart beat if the sox can get col to pay a hefty chunk. The guys a flat obp machine. had a dip in power last year, but his doubles were still high, so much of it can return. ive never seen a guy rake as much as he does and get talked about so little. granted coors has alot to do with it prolly, his numbers in this decade are pujols like

this is why baseball is so great. we won and im having my time to enjoy it. at the same time, the beauty of the sport is that the offseason has already started, and this is where dynastys are built, time to reload. im already looking feasible options for next year, and all i can say is that a full year of the new contreras, buerhle, garland, garcia and mccarthy is gonna be f***ing sick

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) It's comments like these that drive me bananas. Yes, there is luck involved when you are a pitcher. But whether a hit ball or not becomes an out is often due to the pitcher hitting his spots and setting up the hitter. Sometimes hitters hit good pitches hard or they bloop them for a base hit, but hitting the proper part of the strike zone and keeping hitter's guessing accounts for more than pure luck. Anyone that doesn't get this, just doesn't understand baseball. Or at least hasn't pitched. I'm sure he was generalizing there, but let's not be afraid to give the pitcher a little credit when ratios improve. Strikeouts and walks are not the only part of an at bat a pitcher controls. rex i cant agree more. i think the new school methods of statistical analysis are incredibly interesting and useful, especially the defensive ratings. however if there is one part of their methodology that i simply cannot accept is that "the only things pitchers control are home runs, strike outs and walks." to say that a pitcher who gives up alot of base hits or a little amount of base hits is lucky or unlucky is simply proposterous to me. watch buerhle pitch, he is effective by sawing people off, or getting them to reach. hes not a swing and miss pitcher, and his ability to do a lot of little things well adds up to compensate for his high BAA (ie holding runners, throwing ground balls, not walking batters)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) There's about a 95% chance that Giles never even hits the free agent market. Kevin Towers has made Giles his #1 priority for this offseason and is very close to signing him to a 3yr/$30M deal. in such a bad market i actually think giles would make more than 3/30, especially given that his away splits are terrific

Buehrle was the first to close and start a world series game since....................... none other than catfish hunter. any irony since hawk always compares mark to catfish. "ive said it before, hes the closest thing i've ever seen to catfish hunter"
