2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 3, 2012 -> 01:33 PM) I know this is a little premature but.... assuming the lotto balls fall their way and MJ is smart enough to take Anthony Davis, is there anyway that his addition knocks them out of whatever spot they need to have their pick protected??? With how much love I hear this guy getting I think that pick could be pretty valuable after the draft. Boring day, boring topic lol heard larry brown this morning on mike and mike saying that whatever team gets anthony davis will win 50 games...I think thats a bit much, but if the bobcats get davis, and can even supplement that a little bit - that pick has a great chance at 1.) becoming unprotected (meaning we get a non-lottery pick), or 2.) being something like the 9-12th pick. Lets be honest - its really not THAT hard to crack the playoffs in the east. I kinda think that pick is overvalued by many ....we just have to hope the bobcats somehow continue to get the 3-4th pick, and not the 1 or 2.

why does it suck that it gets leaked? Its a measurement of one aspect of a football players ability. how is it any different than if an OT benches only like 15 reps? Thats televised

Sox vs Royals ST game thread 3/22
QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) DUNN f***ing CRUSHED that ball. Damn good to see... on first pitch he fouled off, he looked as quick to an inside pitch as I have seen him in a white sox uniform - definitely looked like a completely different player during that entire AB

Im going to be very curious to see what the offense looks like under Tice next year. Forte has struggled running the ball between the tackles in his career - and we all know that is what Tice likes to do. When Martz was here, Forte got to run on the edges quite a bit, where he excelled running in space, getting behind pulling guards and tackles. He struggled in the between the tackles, in I back formations under Turner (3.9 and 3.6 avg before martz, 4.5 and 4.9 with Martz). Im thinking with Tice the bears knew they need another back who was more of a north south RB.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 22, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) Nice bruiser to go along with Forte. Not too expensive either, I like it. and not a ton of mileage for a guy who has been in the league 4 years - good goal line back....pretty solid deal all around. I have to think this means bad things for forte -franchise forte this year, maybe again next year, draft the next long term RB in the next 2 drafts, and have bush around to back up Forte for now, and maybe start if need be for a year after Matt is gone

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY/MARCH 20
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) 14 of the 30 guys drafted in that 1st round never even made the majors. I find it hard to call him an all-time historical bust considering how many top draftees never even see the light of MLB. I misread that. I thought he said biggest white sox draft bust, not overall draft bust.

i obviously love the marshall deal, but the bears have done almost nothing in FA (backup Qb and ST) to improve over last year - i sure hope emery drafts well, cuz we still need OL, DL and DB....and maybe TE too

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY/MARCH 20
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 20, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) Whoa now. That's a bit of an overstatement. considering the money they gave him, I'm not so sure it is...remember the "best power coming out of college since mark mcgwire" stuff too? in fact, you can even argue that he changed the way we draft...since giving him that ridiculous 6 million dollars, the sox have since almost never gone over slot

2011-2012 NHL Thread
im a fringe fan - i certainly fall into the category like steve mentioned that has hockey 4 or 5 on my radar...now that said, it being 4 or 5 on my radar still means that I watch the hawks almost every night that they aren't playing opposite the bulls..... but i can honestly say the fighting has 0 to do with the sports lack of popularity with me...it certainly doesnt push me away ...i cant say it draws me to it, but i know it doesnt push me away. Frankly the reason its 4-5 on my radar is just the fact that its not as interesting a sport as football, bball or baseball (to me - not to everyone obviously). Also, just like 90% of ppl growing up, the extent to which I played hockey was limited to a PVC pipe goal we used to carry onto the driveway ala wayne and garth. these are hockeys problems IMO, not staged fights (though i do think staged fights are silly - they just arent why the majority of fans dont give a s***)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 18, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Because SF still doesn't have a #1 receiver? Alex Smith meets with the Dolphins, SF better make a move on someone before they end up with no QB randy moss, vernon davis, mario manningham, and michael crabtree are great targets - maybe not a true #1 in there anymore, but thats as good of targets as hes going to find for a team that doesn't have a true #1 receiver. hell even kyle williams is a decent option

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) Sweet non call on the push in the back I thought so too but I can't tell cuz I know I'm being biased. Credit Wisconsin, definitely a team greater than the sum of their parts unlike Vandy who plays way under the sum of theirs IMO. Gotta credit Bo Ryan for that

QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 17, 2012 -> 06:49 PM) Did Wisconsin change their offensive mind set in the tourney? What's with all the points? 8 offensive foul calls have given them 8 extra possessions

Well we got one there. Doesn't matter that Jordan tylor was outside the restricted zone, he wasn't set
-
East Region
Wisconsin has gotten 6 of the 6 calls that could go either way. Jeff Taylor has 0 and Vandy still down just 5. Gotta keep outa foul trouble tho

every time a white guy from Wisconsin flops is not ALWAYS an offensive foul. Wtf. 5 offensive fouls in 15 min and not a single block

Not saying the bears knew or didn't know, but the only guy I trust less than Dan Bernstein is an unnamed source of Dan Bernstein

has there been any word on which 3rd round pick we are giving up? I have to assume its the panthers one this year, which is #73 overall the 73rd pick has a value of 225 pts in the NFL value charts. Assuming conservatively that the bears will pick 22 overall next year - their third round pick will be #86 overall, worth 160 pts http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php so the bears gave up 385 pts for marshall, which correlates to the #51-52 pick overall - so basically would the bears have gotten a guy at that draft spot equal to Marshall - almost certianly not just for comparisons sake - i found this which is actually pretty nice, showing what recent WRs have been traded for (as of 2010) http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patrio...-wr-trades.html

this changes so much in the draft IMO. With OT relatively weak in this draft, esp at 19 (unless the bears like the kid from OSU who had a bad combine and has seen his stock drop) the bears can go pretty much anywhere now. Wouldn't be surprise if any position on the defense is taken - they need to draft the replacements at LB, need CB depth, always need a safety, and since DL is looking like it won't be addressed (at least with mario williams), i could see DT or DE in the first round TE might be addressed too

yeah he has borderline personality disorder, which frankly, the bears will need professional help to deal with....i hope they can get him the help off the field that he is going to need. Now that clearly has not affected his on the field play much at all to this point of his career, so hopefully it wont in the future either. Just some numbers to throw out there... 16 games - 81 catches 1214 yards 15.0 avg 6TDs 14 games - 86 catches 1014 yards 11.8 avg 3 TDs 15 games - 101 catches 1120 yards 11.1 avg 10 TDs 15 games - 104 catches 1265 yards 12.2 avg 6 TDs 16 games - 102 catches 1325 yards 15.5 avg 7 TDs vs. 16 games - 60 catches 1106 yards 18.4 avg 9 TDs 5 games - 14 catches 248 yards 17.7 avg 3 TDs 15 games - 68 catches 1167 yards 17.2 avg 9 TDs 16 games - 59 catches 1098 yards 18.6 avg 7 TDs 16 games - 41 catches 623 yards 15.2 avg 3 TDs first is marshall who is over an entire year younger as well, second is vjack

Zaidman said this morning that the bears likely have money to get both Williams and Jackson. It didnt sound like he thought theyd get both, but he said they defintiely could. The more I've thought about it, the less I really want to give Jackson huge money. The best thing about signing williams is that it fills not only DE, but also you then afford to have lesser players at DT, CB and S - making those less of a need in the draft. As was mentioned above, OT HAS to be addressed, but the FA crop is bad, as is the draft class at OT. But the change of system should help those guys hopefully

2012 NFL draft question
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 10, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) When they traded their pick for the 4th pick with the Giants (Eli deal). Chargers got another #1 and a 3rd. I'd argue that the difference in the Redskins deal is that now, these top picks aren't as expensive, so the price (in terms of picks) has increased if you want a guy like this because your franchise is less crippled if your top pick busts. In the past, if your top pick busted, you were screwed cause you had invested 50M bucks in them. no doubt about it this played a huge part in it
