  1. This as much as anything should help improve our system....our stubbornness to never go over slot is a big reason for the crappy draftsin recent years
  2. This is a terrible match up for the Knicks. The last thing you want to do against the heat is turn the ball over and play and up and down tempo like dantoni plays. Gotta force the heat into a half court game where their athleticism is limited and force one of the superstars to essentially play a 1 man game in the half court.
  3. Im gonna go with J4L in this one....IMO the heat are better than the bulls doesn't mean bulls can't beat the heat though, but right now if bulls fans could magically swap the teams jerseys (without any emotion/nostalgia/geography attached) i suspect most would objectively take the heat edit: and you can't take 1 game snippets as proof of any 1 team being better or about as good as another. In that case the nets would have been better than the bulls and 20 pts better than the knicks recently.
  4. 1.) hardly matters 2.) going to be hard, given that humber can't be expected to replicate, and sale has never started at this level. We're boned if we have injuries 3.) An Adam Dunn that is somewhere between the 2011 version and the 2010 version 4.) Thornton 5.) No, I've always thought Quentin was undervalued by sox/fans and apparently was by management as well
  5. That seems like very fair over/under....ill go over at 77 just cuz its the sox and ill always remain hopeful we won 79 last year, and ill include my less than scientific opinion of how I see the changes affecting our win total The bad.... Our bullpen is worse (no santos) (- 1.5 wins) SP likely worse (without buerhle, but some of that countered by sale) (-2 wins) Downgrade from quentin to viciedo (at least IMO - gonna be hard for tank to post OPS of .838) (-1.5 wins) Can expect reasonable regressions from konerko, humber (-2 wins) The good... Can expect reasonable progressions from dunn, rios, beckham, and danks, peavy (+5 wins) Hopefully de aza is an upgrade over pierre (+1 win) The division was horrendous last year, but I expect the royals to continue to improve, tigers improve, twins HAVE to be better than last year, and indians probably a tick worse - IMO anincrease in teh competition level should account for about a game or two Now these are pretty conservative changes, obviously if Dunn were to somehow go back to pre-2011 form, thats worth probably 4-5 wins alone, and if rios can replicate 2010, that would be worth another 2-3. Unfortunately this team is extra-ordinarily ill-equipped to deal with injury, given the utter lack of depth in the organization. So knock on wood that we stay healthy.
  6. looks like deron williams was a bit tired of the jeremy lin hype....36 pts, 6 ast, 4 rebs through 3 quarters
  7. cant see weber surviving now. ultimately I think he's a guy who just doesn't quite gel with todays athletes
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 06:15 PM) He's never really had much of one. He actually has a birth defect (his arms are actually quite a bit different in length). He can't shoot, he never really has been able to... that 5 game run to start the season was the outlier, not what you are seeing now. i understand, just feels like he hasnt been able to slash to the basket and play that baseline like he has in the past either....i think most bulls fans knew his hot shooting to start the year (esp from 3) wouldn't hold up, but seems like he has had a really difficult time getting to the hoop too. Not that this means anything, but I did a sporcle quiz the other day on the guys who were in the top 10 each year for number of dunks, and brewer was there for 2 or 3 years in utah. on cue he knocks down a jumper
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) Anyone who says they know the optimal amount of time a player needs in the minors is lying. exactly, which is why hes not wrong for saying they were rushed, and you aren't wrong for saying they weren't. Its impossible to ever tell what would have happened if a player had been pushed through a system quicker, or slower......so its just a differing opinion.
  10. QUOTE (daggins @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 07:03 PM) It is remarkably hard to factually prove that someone was rushed but I would say Beckham's performance the last couple years probably indicates he was rushed. ya for sure. determining if a guy was rushed is more opinion than it is something fact based. Clearly KW and the sox staff didnt feel like they were rushing these guys. On the other hand this scout and some fans feel like guys were rushed. Lots of other organizations give their guys alot more time than we did with guys like beckham and sale for certain. Early on in KW's career we were able to target big league players with our minor league system, and it was ok because our system was good enough to net us impact guys. As of late the only guys we have been able to land have been overpriced contracts other teams have looked to get off their books. Add in the fact that we have made colossal mistakes with guys like swisher (twice), dunn, rios, and have failed to add any depth whatsoever in the minors....leaves us in a bad spot heading forward
  11. what has happened to ronnie brewers offensive game?
  12. CJ Watson - Today 2/7 previous games... 3/11 4/11 8/23 3/7 1/10 way to step up with rose out
  13. john lucas may be a better scorer, but mike james is a much better PG
  14. thibs went with a lineup that had both james and lucas on the court at the same time along with jimmy butler, korver and taj...talk about small I guess hes never afraid to send a message to the starters
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) Heres' their overnight apology. quite obviously not an accident.....someone is going to be fired for that im sure
  16. ronnie brewer 0-3 0 pts, 1 reb, 1 ast .............+14
  17. tremendous ball movement from the bulls tonight. interior passing has been on point without rose....boozer with one of his best games against a legit team in a bulls uniform
  18. obviously its never easy without rose, but against a good defensive team like the celtics, the bulls are really struggling to score
  19. pierce pulls a lebron/bosh and sells as if he was hit in the face with dengs elbow
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 03:22 PM) The fact that Beckham is the second-best 2B in the division is STAGGERING. the fact that De Aza is the second best LF in the division is even more telling IMO
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) The Sox system is still among the worst. But they really have improved on the draft the last few years (though this seems entirely via scouting, and they still miss the money part of the picture), and the trades this offseason bolstered the system. I would personally now put them above a couple or three teams. The Marlins, for example, have gotten worse, while the Sox have gotten better. That all said, even if I am right, we are still talking about going from 30th to like 28th. Not exactly a "woohoo!" claim to make. But it is improvement. im not sure this statement is true. Sale looks like a good pick. Besides that weve had the football player from LSU who has been hurt, and when healthy has hit .236 in the minors. Walker may be too early to tell, but nobody here can be impressed so far. We've added 0 depth in the later rounds as well frankly, a couple years ago KW had his "re-commitment" to finding prospects with big upside and "overhauled" our amateur scouting....well it hasnt worked one bit yet IMO, and has only gotten worse.... this was tweeted by baseball prospectus The White Sox system is so bad that I decided to write scouting reports on the characters from Real Genius instead: http://bit.ly/xQTokq
  22. Remember when Duncan Keith was the best defenseman in the league. Wtf happened
  23. the view from the side makes it hard to tell, but the view from underneath the rockets basket at 32 seconds on the deadspin video really makes it look intentional to me
