Spring Training Reports
Lilly, Ozzie lock horns on penalties for steroid use http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cu...-021609.article “I was player rep before Ted Lilly," Guillen added. “I respect his opinion and I don’t know why it sounds like he doesn’t respect mine. Tell him to worry about winning games for the Cubs and winning games for Lou, not what Ozzie thinks or says."

2009 Sox Predictions Merged Threads
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Jeff Marquez 16-8, 3.88 era i was thinking to myself that why is he highly regarded by all of us when hes not even a top 10 prospect for the sox(cole armstrong is even above him lol) and i was looking it up and saw on bbp, the projected 2012 linuep. i thought everything seemed about right except that they still have JD as our projected rf for 20012 lol http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...009/267205.html

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (heirdog @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Ok, so give up JD and $3 mill for Bailey and Dickerson...you still save $ and use your Swisher investment (Dayan) instead of plowing the JD money back in. i think itd even have to be more than 3 mil, 9mil is still a bit too much. id love that trade though

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (heirdog @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I have been saying since the off season started that Abreu makes sense and KW will be very interested in him. It may have been that the Sox were waiting on a contingency to occur but in reality, the $8M offer was never on the table as a guy that wanted 3 yr/$45M will not suddenly take $3M less when he is already getting "peanuts." Now methinks that Dye will still be traded and the real reason that KW didn't put a realistic offer on the table for Abreu is that Mr. Viciedo won him over with his apparent weight loss and BP sessions. Dayan will be our RF. No one has argued that he can hit and he likely has shown off quite a bit to the Sox brass. His weakness may be his "obesity" but he didn't look so fat in Cubano's video post. He also has a cannon arm. His mobility and range can't be any worse than Dye (or even Abreu) so we really are not losing much in the field. Now, he has some high expectations though at the plate... ok and like everyone has been saying, why would anyone want JD at 12mil? kw would have to take on a lot of that salary

Roberto Alomar
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) Something about this doesn't add up. If Alomar contracted HIV when he was 17, he more than likely would have passed away by now. Also, with the progression of symptoms like the woman was talking about, he likely would have passed away (the mass in the chest is usually the beginning of the end for AIDS patients). As DAllen said above, there's been questions about Alomar's sexuality before, and I hope he doesn't feel the need to cover it up by stating the story about being raped. ?

Roberto Alomar
which caused her to have a fear of contracting AIDS, often referred to as AIDS phobia," the suit says. thats funny. she is just out trying to get money from him

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer

Why aren't we pursuing O-dog?
QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Never believe what KW has to say i know how kw is. if he feels like theres something that makes sense as he loves to say, he will do it. i just dont feel good about this one though. imo i dont think lillibridge is ready to be the everyday 2b or leadoff guy and i dont think nix is any good and getz i dont know. hudson does solve a lot of problems

Dayán Viciedo BP Session
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) I don't think so. I don't care if both Fields and Viciedo put up OPS' of over .1000. You don't trade a proven guy to make room for an unproven guy just because of a good spring training performance. i know but thats why i said "if anything". meaning josh fields will not be playing 2b. jd would get traded befor that would happen.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:44 PM) "Manning up" only when caught is not "manning up" at all--its just saving your skin, and its motivated by the same greedy, selfish instincts that made him lie in the first place. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=362...ce=search_video He's a liar and a cheater. That's not a "man" to me. my exact thoughts. im already tired of ppl saying that, about how great it is that he admitted it. yes its refreshing to hear as aposed to the rest of them but still. hes still a cheater. if ur not gunna let the other guys in , dont let arod in just becuz he admitted to it.

Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:09 PM) Like with Bonds, the thing that is so frustrating (I'm assuming A-rod is telling the truth in that he only cheated from 2001-2003) is that the dude was already the best player in the league prior to 2001. That's what gets me. I can see the average/fringe player looking for that "edge." oh so it was for 3 years. hall of famer?
-
Alex Rodriguez tested postive for steroids in 2003; Admits It
so since arod only* cheated that one year and he admitted it, it should be forgotten and he still should be a hall of famer? im curious

Why aren't we pursuing O-dog?
i dont belive that report, that were trying to get him. sure it makes sense but i really believe the sox when they say they think one of nix, lilli, and getz can take that job. and about the whole money issue. i just dont see it at all. i hope im wrong though.

JOE.CREDE. = Twinkie
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Big difference between being named to an All Star Team and being an All Star caliber player. Joe Crede has never had an All Star caliber season even though he's been named to a team, he's also never even come close to a Silver Slugger caliber season but was awarded one in 2006 because everyone hates Alex Rodriguez. It's also rather silly to call a player gold glove caliber when he's never won a gold glove or a Fielding Bible award. exactly. fukudome made the all star team last year, is he a star too?lol

Dayán Viciedo BP Session
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) I wish we can have Viciedo play 3rd base and have Fields play 2nd base. It can't be too difficult for a 3rd baseman to move to second base, the base is still to the right of them, and the throw to 1st base is shorter. All they'd need to learn is how to turn the double-play. I'd also much rather see Josh play 2nd base if Viciedo win the 3rd base job instead of any of Gets/Lillibridge/Nix. this was actually talked about quite a bit in the past 2 years or so. kw and ozzie already said that wont be happening. fields cannot play 2nd. that he doesnt have the footwork to play there. does that mean it would be impossible? no but it just isnt happening. if fields and dayan both do great in ST, than if anything you move someone like dye and do something like cq in rf, dayan in lf, fields at 3b etc

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) How many teams in the AL Central do not have ifs/question marks? well then on paper were going to be contenders for the central and thats it lol

NY Daily News: Sox make Abreu 1-Year Offer
QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Very true. On paper, we are a contender again this season. We'll see what happens with injuries, our big boppers and the bullpen. we are? because were in a bad division or what? because as far as i know, we have a lot of ifs/question marks. (2sp's, 2b, 3b, cf, bench, back end of pen)

why is it that all this off season ive read rumors about the twins maybe trading delmon young? is it because they dont want him because of his adittude or because he wasnt as good as they thought hed be...?
