  1. why is it that all this off season ive read rumors about the twins maybe trading delmon young? is it because they dont want him because of his adittude or because he wasnt as good as they thought hed be...?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 2, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) I certainly wouldn't mind seeing BA get a chance to thrill us defensively the whole season as a starter in cf. Even if he hit .230 it wouldn't kill us if the other pieces of our lineup, the veteran boppers, do what they are supposed to do. I didn't mean to say Wise was a phenom. Given a choice I'd rather give it to BA because at least we know he's going to be a stud on defense. with pk, aj, fields, cq, and dye all being avg at best defensively, we might need ba out there
  3. QUOTE (Cubano @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Agents tend to drive prices up by saying good things about their clients and GM and scouts drive prices down by pinpointing the bad skills on those players. If the White Sox want any of these players, they will get them. well hopefully what was said about dayan is true lol
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 1, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) I-Rod is intersting as a back up, but we know his skills are diminishing and some pitchers have a problem with his game calling signing pudge would be great. hes way better than what we have down in the minors.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Joe Crede appears to be close to signing with the Twins. i dont get why they would want to sign him with that back of his, playing on the turf. itll be interesting to see how much money he gets. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) I hope he signs with the Twins, see how they like having their starting 3B miss 90 games due to injury. shouldnt we be wishing joe the best?lol
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Yeah, pretty much. Unless you believe Wise's 3-31 slump and horrible defense over the final 10 games of the season totally outweighs a brief hot streak over a 9 game span in which the Sox had a losing record. Having Wise go 0-12 in that big Twins series (0-9 leading off) at the Metrodome sure as hell didn't help matters. Winner^^^ Lol
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Well one thing's for sure, the Sox will have the worst defensive OF in the game for much of 2009. 3 below average defenders with Dye and Wise being well below average. Toss in Fields at 3B, Pierzynski behind the plate and Konerko at 1B, should be fun. Maybe we can break some records. wow, i never thought about that. we are guna suck lol
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) Adam Dunn and Abreu might not even get $5 million the way things are going right now. and im guessing we have no money to get them
  9. in 07, we ended up taking poreda over porcello...bcuz of boras right?
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) It's a fun time is all I can say. I am waiting for ST to open and get a chance to look at the likes of Viciedo etc etc. Hope we see a few games on TV so we can get a gander at the talent. i cant wait for spring training too, viciedo, beckham, lillibridge..should be interesting
  11. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) in part at least because his agent was scott boras at the time. there were rumors boras was going to demand a huge signing bonus which turned some people off. that and some questions about his productivity at texas caused him to drop to the seventh round. after the draft, he fired boras, which was a plus. since he got drafted he's shown some real promise. there are some questions about his power potential but as a prospect he has just about everything you want. great size, speed, defense, good on-base potential, etc. when do you think he'll be ready to join the team and can he be the long term cf solution?
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) The only thing I'll hate is if Ozzie thinks Wise can be a full-time regular. (Or our LF/CF/lead-off hitter) I just have a sick feeling on that. yea, i read about that yesterday in the suntimes i think. about how wise and owens r getting the a shot at the cf job. wise proved last year that he cannot play everyday. nice bat off the bench, but he gets exposed playing everyday. that would be horrible. (even though they both are bad)
  13. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 03:40 AM) Also to add to that I'm looking forward to watching youth getting a chance and I'm very excited for how the future of this team could shake out. Going around the horn and cupboard here is what i think realistic comps for whats in the minors and at the ML level; ceiling wise. DH- Brandon Allen - Adam LaRoche with some speed and a bit more pop, maybe he will surprise and stick at first. C - Tyler Flowers - Joe Torre's bat with a chance to be a bit better than Piazza behind the dish 1B - Josh Fields - Dean Palmer, I'd love to see him stick at 3B but i foresee him on the other side of the diamond. 2B - Chris Getz - A LH Eric Young, possibly a bit more pop if the power is for real. SS - Alexei Ramirez - Adrian Beltre. 3B - Gordon Beckham - Chase Utley. LF - Dayan Viciedo - Carlos Lee CF - Jordan Danks - David Dejesus if the power never fully develops the converse of that is Fred Lynn if it does. RF - Carlos Quentin - CQ I would love to hear what other posters across the board think are legit major league comps for some of these players. Also i highly doubt all of these players pan out but those are the players i associate each with when i think of their ceilings ive heard a lot of good things about him. how is it that we were able to "steal" him from the draft?
  14. does andruw jones really suck that bad? (off subject, i know)
  15. crede wants a base salary at about 5mil or so? Lol
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Cubs fans: "Vitters, Marshall and Guzman should be more than enough for Peavy" "Towers told Hendry to go out and get certain players for this deal and thats what he has been doing" thats funny lol even if they magically made that happen, thatd leave them with 0 preospects, 30th in mlb as far as the minors goes lol
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Melissa I think you must be typing faster than you are thinking. Joe Crede was the man in 2005 for sure. He is also widely preaised for his defense and clutch hitting and not just by Sox fans yes, im not denying that. he was really clutch that year. i simply stated that crede has yet to have one full, good, consistent year. the stats back that up.im not trying to knock him, its just that some ppl here cant move on and act like he was god or something. besides defensively, fields can easily out perform crede offensively. is his defense great? no. but hes not a butcher either.get over crede!!!// oh, and i never said i didnt think he was a productive ballplayer. sure he was, just not to the point where some ppl think.
  18. and why exactly did anyone here want him back? just bcuz of what he did for us in the past? or bcuz he can eat up innings? bcuz based on last year, i dunno... 196.7 ip, 237 hits...4.90 era..
  19. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:54 AM) And seriously how many players in this league are hot all season long besides maybe Albert Pujols? Every player has hot and cold months, but it's what makes the defense and team better. Crede's presence alone was enough even when he was slumping a bit because his defense was always stellar...Let's compare the 2...who would you rather have.. A guy who strikes out less than 100 times a year or more than 150 in a full season? A guy who has been an all star or not? A guy who's defense is predictable or unpredictable? A guy who when we need a clutch hit will deliver or not? I mean Crede over Fields for me anyday even with the back problem.. We got Betemit and Viciedo waiting in the wings..I would sign Crede to a one year deal because the guy is proven. Also what would happen to Joe Joe the late inning hero? wow, i see some ppl on here are having trouble moving on lol thats the old crede!! hes not on a team for a reason! and it was never stated that crede has never been "hot" all year in any season, just that he has never been consistent for a whole year. its one thing to have a bad month or 2 if anything, but not half the year.
  20. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) O.k. I hope you are joking and not serious...If you are not, then seriously you are not a real whitesox fan! I mean 2005 Joe was are best clutch hitter and proved it all through the playoffs and world series..He also was the one who pushed us over the edge with the gamewinner against cleveland that year. Apparently you have only been watching the Sox for the last 2 years... i watch every game. all i was stating is that crede has yet to have a FULL great year. meaning really good in a first half and really good in a 2nd half. atleast really consistent in both halfs. not a great half than a garbage 2nd half. and i agree he was a really good clutch hitter in 05, im not denying that. but i said year, overall. and this was his line that year anyways: .252, 22, 62, .303 obp. fine, thats great.
  21. and the cubs and m's are close to a deal sending heilman to the cubs..
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Please bring back Joe Crede. I would think the price would be right and Joe >than Josh. I know it isn't going to happen, but I am afraid we will see some loses in 2009 because of inferior defense at 3B. I don't put much faith in these off season stories centered around how much better someone is looking. They all look and perform better during winter reconditioning. crede(who has never had one great/good FULL season)and his bad back
  23. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 03:01 AM) In Swisher's case I think it has less to do with Ozzie not being able to manage him as KW working some vision out. OC, yeah, possibly. I liked both of these guys on the team, but as much as I may have liked Swish the ballplayer before he came here, if it was Ozzie that took part in sending him out of here (and I don't think so), then I'm more comfortable with it than with KW just cutting him loose to stock the farm. World Series or not, I love Ozzie. I'm 22, and there hasn't been half a Sox manager in my time as a Sox fan than Ozzie is. Sciosia, Torre, Gardenhire, Piniella, Wedge, Martin, LaRussa, Francona, Maddon, Leyland, not the one of them would make me happier despite their accolades or credentials (maybe Martin would come close). This guy, to me is the face of our team, hopefully for years to come. 70 or 100 win season, I'm content with the manager. someone that thinks 100% about ozzie like i do, thats feels the same
  24. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 05:55 PM) http://cgi.ebay.com/2008-BOWMAN-STERLING-A...%3A1%7C294%3A50 yea but its not graded. and what someone sells something for on ebay doesnt necessarily mean thats what its worth. mine is graded and i havent been able to get the value price of it
