QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 05:43 PM) We will have to wait until Ozzie write his book. if he were to write a book once he retires, about his managerial career, wow thatd be a great book!lol

"He told me last year was his most miserable year in baseball," one scout said obviously there was a lot going on in that club house regarding oc that we dont know about.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) You mean Bonderman? him too but i was refering to verlander bcuz he looked awful the times i saw him last year. but im sure he probly will bcuz i remember watching a few games in which he ended giving up like 5 or 6 runs and a lot of them coming in the later innings. leyland had to keep him in there bcuz their pen was horrible

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) I agree with this. And they have something like $60 million coming off the books next year, which means that Kenny COULD legitimately commit $50 million or so to another FA if he really wanted to. That said, I don't see Sheets being that guy (even for $30 million). He's already had the trifecta of shoulder, elbow, and back injuries. That doesn't project well into the future and, frankly, I wouldn't blame the Sox for taking a pass on him. its going to cost a lot to keep floyd, danks, alexei, cq, and jenks though

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) with that amazing pitching staff ^^^^^^ i wonder if verlander will ever figure it out

QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jan 24, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) We have no money to spend. no, the money is there. they just dont want to spend it. big difference lol

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) I'm kind of surprised that Colon got a major-league deal, while Freddy could only muster a minor-league deal. Are there still serious velocity questions with Freddy? He doesn't seem that much less of an injury risk than Colon. even though its a minor league deal, freddy has a chance to make up to 9mil as to where colon would only make up to about 2mil. i know its off subject, but im surprised crede might be siging with the twins. i realize theyre practicly his only option at this point but with his history of back problems, i dont think itd be a good idea to play on turf.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 21, 2009 -> 07:05 PM) I'd love for the Sox to sign Pudge. I'm very upset about seeing Blanco sign for that cheap. as of right now, the back up is guna be someone from the minors right? none of them can hit. that is disappointing. i guess we really dont have money to spend lol

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) Honestly, I'd have to go with Grady Sizemore. He has everything and no one spells 5 tool better than him. At 26 years old he still has tons of time to get better and compete at an MVP level. He'd get more attention if he didn't hit leadoff. Putting him in the 3rd spot would reveal to many how good of a player he truly is. hes good but i dont see how u can say hes better than pujols. late in the game, game on the line, i dont see how u rather face pujols than sizemore. pujols is elite. sizemore is great, a stud, superstar, whatever u want to call him, but not exactly elite. i think its funny no one chose arod lol

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) You have 1 position player, the 5th SP, the 4th and 5th OFs, and the back of the bullpen labeled there (not to mention that some of those excess starters are probably gonna end up in the bullpen). i think we have a hole at 2b, 3b, cf, 4th sp, 5th sp, a spot or 2 in the pen and i dont care too much for our bench( such as back up catcher) QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Resons why we'll be better in '09 - asked and answered. - Q will be there for the playoffs this time.- Josh Fields may well hit better than Crede, though his defense is shaky, granted. He'll be tradeable when Viciedo emerges. thats not for sure

QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) Kenny Williams had indicated after signing Colon that whatever the Sox do will have to be Payroll neutral. Signing Garland would add to payroll. Jenks has filed for arbritration, this will add to payroll. If Dye is traded for prospects then signing Garland could work. But where to we get Dye's production? ok, i still dont understand that one. maybe i missed the explanation, but how is it that we are at our limit or where we need to be, or slighty overbudget, all things ive heard from kw and the sox? how is that considering we dropped credes uribes vazquezs halls and swishers contracts? and jrs i guess. so whats our payroll at right now 2?

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jan 18, 2009 -> 04:44 AM) I just don't see the point of adding him into the mix if its going to be a ML contract now that we signed Colon, especially with Freddy topping out at 82 on the gun. With Contreras apparently back into the mix it appears as if we have enough candidates for the 4&5 spots going into this year. wow thats its? wasnt he atleast in the mid 80s back when we faced him? well i just think that if we can get him for 1mil or less , we should get him. -

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) More from Rosenthal: well hopefully we can get freddy. hes still my all time fave sox player. im sure the sox will sign him if they feel he can contribute this year. i dont think $ will be a huge issue -
One of the first "projected" standings, Sox dead last

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) what's funny was that was the prediction for last years team. Who finished first. i thought u thought it was funny the prediction for this year bcuz u thought we would be better than that. -

i couldnt agree more , 4th, 5th starters, 3b, 2b, cf, the health of pk, thome dye, cq.... i dont see how anyone should expect the experts or those websites from choosing us to finish 1st or 2nd. if the sox r truly going to go with the roster as it stands, might as well trade dye and the older players. we wont win anything this year. go all young QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 08:01 AM) 1. Making predictions about team standings before late March is absolutely pointless. You'd have better luck picking names out of a hat. 2. Conveniently, NYY is the one team who really seems to have bulked up their roster first, so naturally this blog would like to do standings NOW. 3. Evidence: Conculsion: LOLOLOLOLOLOL ok #1 makes sense but whats so funny? what, u think the sox r going to finish 1st or have a great team? ur being overly optimistic. -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) We should ban people for posting about any trade rumors with the Angels doesnt make sense to me bcuz of like the article said, they have a surplus of out fielders

Lol i doubted it before i even opened the post, didnt think the brewers would trade him. funny though

QUOTE (Cubano @ Dec 21, 2008 -> 10:25 AM) Mexicans are trying to convince Quentin to play for them. I have read it in the Mexican media. That would be great!
