  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 08:47 AM) I know what the reaction is going to be, "why start his clock" "really that early", "he will have to adjust", "scouts dont know him yet." But here is my opening day lineup. And yes I know I am putting a guy with 14 pro games in that spot. I feel our pitching can be the strength of this team and because of that I like the defensive talent as well as the athleticism. 1. Becks 2B 2. Alexei SS 3. Thome DH 4. Q LF 5. Kong 1B 6. Dye RF 7. AJP C 8. Fields 3B 9. BA CF I honestly believe Becks is a special player and could give us almost Sizemore-like production in the leadoff spot. Lilli backs up SS and 2B Betemit backs up 3B and 1B Kroeger backs up RF and LF i just wish we could have a legit cfer. doesnt even have to be someone like torii hunter, etc. someone that can get the job done, someone like dejesus. bcuz i really like that lineup but BA kind of kills it, even though hes batting 9th.
  2. garret anderson is hurt already, that was fast lol
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) The reason why Japanese players get more money than Cuban's is due to the posting system. The Japanese leagues force MLB to pay huge amounts to get the rights to their super stars. The only way Cuban's get to the US is by illegally defecting. When they come to US teams they are forced to take whatever they can get. There is no going back to Cuba to play (like Japanese players can do) they are stuck. So the US teams have much more power in negotiations and therefore use it to their advantage. The bottom line is teams are in the business of making money. If they can make more money by giving out smaller contracts, they do it. As to the rest, there is no reason for the Sox to hold back Viciedo. If he is good enough to play, he will be on the MLB team. If anything the Sox are being generous with him by not forcing him to do anything on the big league club. He will still get paid the same amount, he is not like a draft pick who gets a minor league salary versus an MLB one. He will make millions to get better and practice. One day he may make it in the MLB, but even if he never plays an inning he still will have millions. Also if he is amazing and the Sox keep him in the minors, they are losing years on their contract as he will still hit FA at the same time. Thus there is absolutely no reason that the Sox would hold back Viciedo, unless they thought it was in his best interest. fields is doing good and he should be the 3b. but where do u put viciedo?
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:38 PM) It will be interesting to see how all this changes in a couple of weeks when some of the guys really playing well struggle a little bit, and some of the guys who are struggling put it together. I really don't see how anyone can come to any conclusion based on what has happened so far. I'm sure nobody has been ruled out, but nobody with the positions in play, have been ruled in either. Corky Miller is on fire. The reality is, he hasn't hit better than a pitcher during the regular season in 6 years. Odds of him doing it in 2009 are slimmer than Jerry Owens hitting 20 homers. wow, u werent kidding lol corky's numbers
  5. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Yes. No. why not? isnt he atleast better than owens?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) Why would you discount his innings because they are against the Cubs? They are one of the best offenses in baseball. i didnt mean it in that way at all. i wasnt discrediting what he did, as if saying the cubs offense sucks. i just said that its only been two outings and against the same team. lets wait and see how he does in more ip and against more teams
  7. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) On Marquez, I haven't seen any of him so far this ST, but it sounds like his results have been promising thus far. How's he looked so far? its tough to say , bcuz its only been about 6 innings and against the cubs, but hes been impressive. i would have no problem with him being one of the starters. he makes the team, i think.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) They are both proving that they may not belong on the Big League roster. BA at least can play D, neither can hit. And Jerry's swing is honestly awful. Its not condusive to hits to either field, its not a line drive swing, doesnt bring ground balls. Its terrible. then why dont they try to correct that? or is it too late; he is what he is ?
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) I feel comfortable saying he is almost twice as fast as Crede was which helps the clogging of the middle of our order. i aslo agree with u , about beckham being just about ml ready. i think he could do the job. id prefer for him to go to the minors though bcuz i worry that the same thing that happend to alex gordon will happen to him. gordon was a for sure thing and was rushed
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Heres the thing I see about this spring. I really dont care about the results, I am really looking at which players I think have good mechanics, approach and the capabilities of being a major league player. So far this has eliminated a few players from my mind as legit major league ballplayers. Jerry Owens, Restovich, Myrow,Broussard and a few others just dont look like they have the swings to be solid every day players. Owens has an awful uppercut swing that isnt condusive to getting alot of hits in the majors. I honestly do not think the kid could break .250 over the course of a year. On the flip side it looks to me like Kroeger, Beckham, Viciedo (for the most part), Getz, Nix and Fields are younger players that I see have some staying power. Kroeger's swing is pretty good IMO. He has a very level swing that is very quick with the wrists. It looks like he trusts his hands and has some minor league success in his past. Beckham is the real deal folks. Defensively I think he looks very good, better than Betemit who has been in the league already. Beck's approach at the plate is major league ready right now IMO. People arent going to like this, but i think if he continues to hit in the spring, he may force the hand of the management to put him on the team RIGHT NOW. Viciedo has power to all fields, thats about all i can say. he obviously needs some time in the minors, but may be pushing himself up a level by the end of the year and def in ST next season. Getz and Nix could be a platoon at 2b IMO, and both can hit, with Getz being a little more of a complete player. Fields has really changed his swing around a bit. Im not sure if he's finally healthy, or his vision is better, but he is adjusting better than I have ever seen him, and doesnt appear to have the slower, loading swing like in the past. I think he really produces this year. Also on the pitching front, Marquez is pretty f-ing good people. Better than I thought he would be. I'd like him in AAA and be the first guy up when Fatolo gets hurt. i noticed that fields seems to be running pretty good too. beating out infield singles and barely being called out at 1st. hes not above avg but hes not a base clogger either like pk ,thome, etc
  11. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) If BA is out, our defense is going to be horrendous. With no BA, Dye is the only above average defensive outfielder. Ozzie likes defense and the small things. I think he stays at least as a 4th outfielder. i agree but it just looks like owens will be the starter. and all 3 cant make the team. they were the ones saying wise isnt getting cut

    Honeymoon advice

mexico is great, i really enjoy going. just about everything is legal there lol. its not that bad, financially. last i checked, $1= 15.14 pesos, thats a lot. but theres just way too much crime right now.esp. if they know ur from the u.s. a lot of people are pretending to be military cops. the economy down there is just brutal. theyre only making aroung 60 dollars a week there, less. hawaii is too expensive. id go to mexico(if ur not scared)
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) We now see the first signs that Ozzie is at least pondering now about how Kroeger might make this team, and in what role. That would be starting off as the back-up outfielder and back-up 1B to Konerko, along with Betemit. Of course, all this hinges on the Owens/Anderson/Wise situation....and how they hold up over the next month. An injury or non-performance (or continued strong show by Kroeger) changes things, especially if Brian Anderson continues to struggle at the plate. Anderson has two things going for him, that he's the best defensive sub and he's right-handed. That's about it for now. The problem for Kroeger is that Owens and Wise are also LH. Still, if you look at what Quentin and Ramirez did last year at age 25/26, you start to also consider the possibilities with players like Kroeger, Van Benschoten (probably not this year), Getz, Floyd, Nix, Betemit, Lillibridge, Fields....then you have that second wave with Beckham, Flowers, Viciedo, Allen, Danks and Shelby, it's pretty inspiring in terms of some renewed hopes for the future. We're really becoming a much more youthful club over the next two seasons. One can easily imagine starting the 2011 (and possibly even 2010) without a single position player over age 30. It would be nice to see Kroeger blossom simply because he's another LH bat with extra-base power, something we're lacking in our system, with the exception of Allen, and a likely offseason target for KW going into 2010 to replace Thome if Allen struggles this year. Kroeger will really have to continue to work on his patience and making contact, but he's still ONLY 26, so it's just as reasonable to call him a "prospect/suspect" as Anderson or Owens. its starting to look like BA will be the odd man out. theyre going to go with owens bcuz of his speed and listening to the score in the morning, they said theres no way wise will get cut and the sox really like him and hes doing great right now
  14. QUOTE (ChesterCopperpot @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Oh boy. i dont know why we even care lol
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Broadway through 2 IP, gave up a broken bat single to Carter. Allen got eaten up by low and away sliders against the LHP...tough match-up for him. Danks popped out, but made contact on his swings. lillibridge k's. not looking too good with the bat thus far
  16. QUOTE (Cowch @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) You can access audio via chisox.com u have to pay
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) JORDAN DANKS!!!! I am so freaking psyched right now!!! its great thinking about it, a few years from now, danks pitching and danks2 in cf making a diving catch.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) Im not going to lie, that lineup is sexy as hell. too bad this isnt the lineup thats going to face the cubs. i wanted to see viciedo again
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 12:34 PM) Zambrano, Bradley, Dempster, Soriano, Fukudome, Miles to name a few. Howry and Eyre were some good recent ones for them as well. gregg, over 4mil
  20. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) None of them can. The closest the Sox have to a lead-off hitting CF is Jordan Danks, and he'll probably start the year out at Winston-Salem. With a real big year at Birmingham, combined with your typical dogs*** showing from White Sox CF'ers, Jordan could challenge for a job as early as ST 2010. But that is the very earliest the Sox will have anyone out there that can play CF and lead off. Until then, the Sox should pick either defense or offense and be done with it. Either get a guy who will hit out there (had Swisher, dealt Swisher) or get a guy who can play defense out there (Anderson). Don't go for a couple guys in Owens and Wise who can neither hit nor play the position. whats the ceiling for jordan danks? is he projected to be a starting cfer one day? QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Viciedo has 1B written all over him. I hope Fields can prove he can be a solid everyday 3B. If he can a Viciedo, Beckham, Ramirez Fields infield sounds very nice to me! c-flowers 1b-viciedo 2b-beckham 3b-fields ss-ramirez lf? cf-danks rf-quentin kw had done a great job in rebuilding our farm system
  21. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) Andruw Jones has gotten off to a terrible start. He was 1-9 with 8 K's, but now it's 2-13 with 9 K's. what the heck happend to this guy
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Anderson > Wise > Owens If Owens gets a shot, then Wise gets one too by default. It's funny too how there are two guys better than Owens (Kroeger, Cook) who aren't even considered in the mix. well can they lead off?
