  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:49 PM) Who is Allen Thomas? Sox' strength and conditioning coach.
  2. Looks like Thome is out tonight: Cabrera SS Ozuna 3B Quentin LF Dye RF Konerko 1B Swisher DH Ramirez 2B Anderson CF Hall C Edit: Cowley is reporting Dye is at DH tonight.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ May 27, 2008 -> 05:09 AM) Look for Buerhle to continue to improve. Look for Thome to continue to hit at the only place he can hit . I hope Thome continues to hit but don't forget he was facing a guy with an 83mph fastball last night.
  4. QUOTE (rangercal @ May 27, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) So is this what we should cry about when we are not crying about playing under .500 baseball? The only one crying about anything is Cabrera.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 26, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) People who have nothing better to do than b****. Like Cabrera?
  6. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 26, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) Lets start another steak today. Perferably a T-Bone or Porterhouse.
  7. Sun Times Article What a classless act. And he's supposed to be a "clubhouse leader"? He'd fit right in on the Cubs of a few years back.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 24, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Thome and Ryan Howard must both be done. Ryan Howard has already whiffed 72 times. I don't know what the deal is with the young Ryan Howard, but it certainly doesn't change the fact that Thome has been awful in clutch situations so far this year and hasn't really been very good in the clutch for a while now.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 24, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) Sadly, I went to the game. The parking was just awful, and the game was worse. This offense is atrocious. I don't know who's worse in clutch situations, Thome or OC? Danks was solid, but he has to stay stronger towards the 100 pitch marker than he does. It's telling when you have to compare your DH who is also the team's highest paid player to a SS who was brought in for his supposed defense and leadership to see who is the team's worst clutch hitter. One is as bad as the other, but all Thome is paid $14M to do is hit. He can't do anything else anyway. Thome is a great guy and was a good hitter in his prime, but that and a quarter won't even get you a cup of coffee in 2008.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) By the way, that last sentence in my post above is not me b****ing, it is fact (his making less contact than any player in baseball on balls he swings at). I could totally do the whole DH as a leadoff hitter thing. Ozzie better do something before Thome gets enough PAs for his 2009 option to kick in.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Thome is the last person on the roster, in terms of offensive players, I want up in any clutch situation. Ditto.
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) where are ross gload and timo perez to face krod when we need them I'd trade Thome straight up for Gload in a heartbeat. Too bad the Royals wouldn't...
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Crede and Thome sure sucked tonight. Thome is clutch.
  14. Here's a little bit about PK and tonight's lineup from Reifert's blog: Inside The White Sox
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2008 -> 05:31 PM) PK had a cortisone shot today, and likely will be out this wknd. The ligament injury is bad though, and if it doesn't get better, it's possible they might have to explore the surgery route. Can you post a link to this info? I thought he was supposed to have a "bone bruise" -- I didn't know it was a ligament problem. Either way, it's good to see Konerko get some time to heal and get BA some starting time in CF. I hope BA comes through--that would be such a major plus for this team if he were to fulfill their initial expectations of him.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Is it a coincidence that Uribe got hurt and we went on a major winning streak? Yes. Uribe actually was hitting better before he was hurt and his hard slide to break up the DP was one of the sparks that ignited this run of winning baseball.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) I love this 3/4....but it's no Thome/PK. Now that our clutch guys gave us a lead, this is a good time for "Me Too" Thome to blast one. That's why its good that he's batting fifth behind Carlos and Jermaine.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) CQ... I love you! Anderson almost gave me a heart attack by stumbling around 3rd. Now there's a legit number three hitter!
  19. Good try by AJ, nice tag up by Brian. Now we need CQ to come through!
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Honestly, I really am not bothered by a guy like Jim Thome not being "Clutch". With the way he hits, you'd actually expect him to be weak in the late innings because people would keep bringing LOOGY's in to face him and he's made a HOF career by destroying right handed pitching. You rely on Jim to win a game early in the game by destroying a pitcher. That's what he's done his whole career. In 2005, we had a lot of guys who were weak pitchers that we got a lead on but the game wound up close because we didn't have someone who could put them away like Jim. The problem...Right now he's not hitting righties! I'm fine with Thome as long as he stays down at number five or even six in the lineup. At this point in his career he should never be batting third. Still, it would be nice if he could drive in a runner from third base in a one - one tie game.
  21. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) I'm more of a Sonia Thomas fan myself.
  22. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ May 22, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) Please, continue to make yourself foolish by comparing him to those players. Neither of them have ever posted numbers close to Thome's, and Thome has come up for the Sox in other situations since being dealt here. I guess all 86 of his home runs were "non-clutch" and meaningless. I'm not comparing Thome to those players, I'm just illustrating how foolish your comment about the Angels game is. You can't dispute that Thome has been awful in the clutch for the most part this season (and most of last season) by pointing to one instance of success. I hope Thome makes me look like the biggest fool in the world by winning this game with a big clutch hit. I'll be the happiest guy here. But I'm not holding my breath.....
  23. QUOTE (daa84 @ May 22, 2008 -> 08:54 PM) i can understand konerko cuz he has been injured and is aging...but im just shocked at how few balls nick swisher has hit hard this year...steroids or not, even with the juice you still have to square a ball up to get it outa the park...and swish just hasnt done it alot this year I don't know what to think about Swisher or Cabrera. I want to like both of them, but they're not making it easy. Has Swisher been prone to extended slumps throughout his career? Is Cabrera a known slow starter? I hope so.....
