I'd agree, that's the goal. Let's hope they can keep him somewhat healthy so he can reach it.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
ptatc replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. Not going to happen as they aren't going to waste kopechs few innings in the minors 2. If kopech uses his limited innings in the minors, he won't be able to be called up as he will be done for the year. 3. They could trade for a SP but as you so often point out they don't have enough to trade for a quality pitcher. 4. True. If he does. Odds aren't good but possible See it's easy . -
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud

While this is true, who replaces him in the rotation for the end of the season and the playoffs? The Sox would need to have 6 quality starting pitchers because Kopech and Rodon would need to have many days off between them. What pitcher would want to come to pitching when they know they will only pitch half a season because kopech and rodon would be the primary pitchers in the part time rotation? -
I voted C. They focused on pitching like they should have. However, I'm not sure they acquired the correct ones.

Pitchers are starting off behind.

Really. Didn't know that. Glad I went with a different one then. I've donated a couple cars and hope the money went to good use.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
ptatc replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Depends on the situation and team from the ones I worked with. Typically the pitching coach will know more about the mechanics and fatigue signs so he is usually the first one. But sometimes the Manager was a pitching coach so it may be him. If it's just performance than the manager may go first. But most often it's the pitching coach suggestions. Guys like TLR whose background is not pitching tend to let the pitching coach do his thing. -
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud

I think towards the end they all seemed gassed. The knee injury was not on Jatz unless you want to stretch it to say he may have injured it due to fatigue, I wouldn't. I would put kopech in that group. They were trying to ramp up his innings but probably started to early. Overall it's wasn't that they were all injured but more that their performances all tailed off toward the end of the season. They even tried to decrease the innings and skip starts at the end of the season but it was too late by then. Overall I'm all for increased work for starters but last year and this year are exceptions where the preseason preparation isn't there and alteration to the typical program need to occur. -

Not a chance unless they win 70 games and miss the playoffs. -

The pitching coach determines the innings, schedule, between game throwing and basically everything to do with pitching. They really bring the medical staff in when issues arise. -

We all know they have a budget and aren't going to just throw money around. Scream about it all you want but they have a top 7 payroll and are only going to go so far. -

The Dodgers lineup is so awesome and deep that Jake Lamb may start for them. With that payroll, he is the best they can do? https://www.dodgersnation.com/dodgers-jake-lamb-is-forcing-his-way-into-the-opening-day-lineup/2022/03/29/ -
Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
ptatc replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just going on his comments about treating last year like any other year. The "pre season" was so messed up and COVID caused so many issues, he should not have pushed them physically so early. All of the performance improvements won't matter if they can't pitch. The greatest ability is availability. As I said hopefully he learned. That was his first time working as the primary pitching coach. He now needs to make sure they are ready for a full season and with the disadvantage of a shortened Spring Training. -

Over the last 15-20 years there haven't been very many shortened spring trainings when the pitchers aren't ready to go. Physiology is Physiology. There are some things that don't change. Pitchers so need to throw more in general but not when they aren't ready. -

Agreed. Katz did not handle a MLB staff well in his first shot. Hopefully he learned something from it. -

Sell a pitcher they going to lose in the rule 5 draft next year. -
I refuse to donate CARS because of that jingle. Went to the American lung association instead.

They need to make sure the best pitchers aren't overworked early in the year. Not sure if it's acquiring an SP or just many calls to the pen. The game thread are going to freak when pitchers are pulled in the 4th and looking good but it's going to need to be done. -
At 18 months he should be doing pretty well, if he is going to get to PLOF.
-
TA7 just carrying water for the organization. We all know this lineup has too many holes to make oitchers afraid.
-
That will do it.

Maybe they are doing all sidework just to build the arm? I would doubt they send him down. They seem to want thise limited innings in the MLB.

Wasn't his comment related to right field exclusively? Maybe he think an SP is still a possibility? -
I've always been interested in Sousa. He seemed to take awhile but always adjusts to the new level.
