Sox planning on having fans present in small amounts

in certain areas such as Texas where the virus is increasing, it may not be appropriate for fans. I'm sure all owners want it for at least some revenue -

It all depends on if there is a 2nd lockdown. When the next wave hits, it will depend on the severity. However in the meantime at least people will get a mental uplift by being able to do somethings. That break will help some hopefully most. It's all about mitigating both the pandemic and the mental and abuse issues that are occurring because of it. People make light of it but I do think sports help in this regard. -

No doubt. I'm not advocating just "return to normal." Just that it should slowly increase. Illinois seems to have finally done something right. We went on a trip to Colorado to pick up my daughter and there were hundreds of people at devils tower. I couldn't believe the number. Iowa and Colorado are allowing people in restaurants at a small capacity. It where Illinois is going I think. -

It's not just that. It's also that we need to start being concerned with peoples mental health as well. The number of suicides and deaths due to overdoses as significantly increased. The domestic abuse incidents has skyrocketed. The reports of child abuse has decreased by nearly 70% on Illinois because no one is seeing the kids to report it. Think of the lifetime of damage being done to the people. I realize that the incidence of the virus will increase when things start to return to "more normal" vit there comes a time when it will do society as a whole more good to get out. I may be naive but I think sporting events will help with society's mental health. Most of the major sports are opening toward the end of July. Hopefully being able to go in small numbers will help people. -
Good question. It will be interesting.

Only your friends matter. Who gives a crap what outside people think. No matter what someone does in that position some people will love it and some will hate it anyway. It's like being a youth sports coach.

Thanks, me! Going on vacation so I will out for a few. Getting it in while I can.
-
The point of the long season is so I can enjoy as much baseball as possible. That's the only thing that matters.
-
Possible. I'm all for something similar to try to get the teams trying. Arent there teams that are routinely bad in the NBA though. We need to look at why and try to correct that.
-
Correct. It's close to the same deal the owners wanted. However, the final deal will probably be for a few more games with the owners getting the extra playoffs in 2021.
-
It's a defacto cap but those teams go over it until the penalties are too harsh. Then they go down for year only to go up again. Plus that limit is really high. Its higher than the NFL cap and they have 53 players and MLB has 26.
-
Because they dont want the high spending teams go have limits. Teams like the pirates and royals will stay at the minimum and the Dodgers, Yankees and red Sox will have limitations. The union only cares about the average salary increasing not individual teams.
-
Salary cap and floor has been my push for years. This is another good way to make the league more competitive. The players have fought it forever though. You are on fire today.
-
Yes. Purely random chance of non-playoff teams. No teams gets any advantage over another based on record. That's good way to eliminate the desire to be the worst team.
-
Ditto. Baseball needs fundamental changes because as you said it is dying a slow death. I'm not smart enough to figure it all out but in a season already drastic different from 5he norm, try new things.
-
For once we agree on something.
-
Agreed. Its worth experimenting with it in this weird scenario we're in. If it increases viewers keep it. If it flops, they can try something different.
-
No one because it's a very similar offer to all the other ones. The owners kept asking for salary about the 56-58 range of full pay. They did go up a few games. They players gave up playing regular season games in October and expanded playoffs in 2021. Each side gave a little.
-
Yes. It gives the owners the extra playoffs in 2021 if they dont happen this year. Good deal.
-
Good compromise fewer games for the owners, full prorated pay for the players. It will be interesting to see if the players get any playoff money.
-
No it could be that they just realized that games have to happened and they cut a different deal. They may just be willing to take less of a loss. It may also be good for their CBA negotiations if they give up more than the players now. They may be playing the long game.
-
The deal will probably end the season earlier and not expand the playoffs into those months. The players originally wanted the season to extend into October so those would have been the playoff months. The give and take will be the owners giving prorated pay and the players taking fewer games and expanded playoffs.
-
Unfortunately, you are correct.
-
I agree. It's not hard. Many people will complain its too hot especially now. Too bad just wear it around other people then get out of that situation and take it off.
