  1. Well I guess will insult your intelligence. You may look at it as a hobby for billionaires but the vast majority of them do not. They have not built their billions by losing money on a business. You are not living in reality if you think there are 100 possible owners of sports teams that will act like Cuban.
  2. Fans just cant handle the truth when it comes to the business side of the game. They want an unlimited budget and for the teams not care about business because that's how we look at it. Unfortunately that isn't reality.
  3. The Cubs have not cried poor. They are doing exactly what you said they should do. They are protecting their future draft picks by not going over the tax threshold. The arent crying poor, saying they have no money. The have said they have no roo. Under the tax and dont want to go over it.
  4. He had surgery in June so there is a very good chance he pitches this year.
  5. I agree. However, he did bring some of it on himself by being too honest with fans. Fans dont want honesty from their FO, they want them to agree with the fans point if view.
  6. I dont necessarily agree. While we want them to win a WS, too many teams are going to a rebuild and are awful for years like the Astros. If teams finish second at least they are competitive and the entire league is competitive. As it stands there are far too many teams that are not competitive.
  7. What happen the the Sox after Williams won the WS. Within a few years they were bad as well. To each his own. I think they were both successful in their own circumstances. I'll give the edge to the guy who won multiple titles and helped build a couple others. That's a better track record than probably 90% of GMs in the modern era.
  8. Most of the second Marlins WS title were players drafted and acquired under dombrowski. The expos team in the mid 90s was also drafted and developed under his term. Most teams after winning a WS go down hill afterwards as they get expensive due to the players success. Also take into consideration why he was brought into the organization. Most of the time his charge was to take a team that was close and then go win a WS. He did exactly what he was hired to do.
  9. You are focusing far too much on the Detroit part of his tenure. Look at the big picture. The William's issue is much more complicated as his background was player development and he always pushed to go young and develop players while JR always overruled him and wanted to extend the 2000 team and 2005 team. It wasnt until recently that jr finally gave in to the FO and went young. Personally, I think they could both be considered as successful. William's has just had a tougher time with his restrictions compared to dombrowski.
  10. What is the similarity in the styles, bud? Dombrowski has mostly worked with high budget teams and spent a great deal of money. William's has had an owner who keeps a tight budget and doesnt spend money. If anything their styles are diametrically opposed to one another. If you've ever met them you would say the same thing. They are totally different people as well.
  11. I think he has shown to be more successful than Williams as he has won multiple titles in multiple places. I really cant see any comparison with Williams other than they have both been in the Sox organization.
  12. You could give dombrowski another one for building the second Marlins win since they won right after he left.
  13. In your view. Who is to say he wont be successful with a talented team. They may think his ability to work with young players which us the knock in both Maddon and Girardi, us important to the development of the team.
  14. The Marlins, Red Sox are still enjoying the WS wins he brought them as well. Like people in all businesses he has had good and bad. He also built the Expos team that may have won the WS had it not been cancelled.
  15. No doubt. Everyone will know more this year. He finally has a team that should be a winning team. Can his ability to work with players overcome his perceived lack of game strategy savvy.
  16. Which is what? The only successful manager they've had was a new one in Guillen.
  17. Just because the Sox have a poor history at it doesnt mean it's bad to hire new people.
  18. He was also handed two rebuilding teams. He has never had a major league quality team to manage. I'm not saying he is a good or bad manager. I think the jury is still out. However, in the long run it really doesnt make that much of a difference as I dont think he is need Yost or Mike Matheny and even they could win with good teams.
  19. So only accomplished people should be hired? No new managers. I didnt realize you were part of the good old boys club just recycle the old managers.
  20. How did you determine that Renteria is near the bottom of the list of managers? I still dont agree that there were better ones out there. Not Maddon for the reasons I gave. I said maybe Girardi, I would need to think more about it.
  21. No doubt. However, there are other reasons as well. Maybe a player tweaked a hamstring. Not bad enough to go on the injured list but enough that he wont play for a day or two. They dont want to go off the other team so they dont make it public. There are many reasons why they make moves deeper than the numbers that fans wont understand.
  22. I dont know. I really didnt pay attention to all of them. I know the rhetoric that posters on this site go by. But as I said earlier managers in general dont mean that much for game decisions as sometimes the moves work and so times they dont depending on how the player performs. I think the new rule for relievers will actually increase the strategy for managers. They can no longer rely on just numbers for a single hitter. They now will need to decide if their reliever can face the next couple hitters in the lineup or if it's better to leave the current one in.
  23. The true telling is that he didnt win a WS in Tampa with those teams and only one with the Cubs. My personal view is that he overuses the pen and by the end of the year and playoffs he has a dead pen and starters who cant go deep in games. It doesnt surprise me that he is the most vocal about the new rule because now he cant use his pen as constantly.
