It's still the game of baseball. How the heck is it going to make a difference? It's not like they are playing cricket instead of baseball to decide the playoffs. Odds are next year the game will have more importance for the Yankees as they should be the better team, but regardless its still the same game in a different park.

There was a really good article about Steiver and the pitching coach Matt Zaleski. He said that he really worked with Cease to throw high 4 seamers and to increase his spin rate so it stays there. He is working with Steiver on the same thing and this is why he is having more success. My concern is that Cease got away with that in the minors but at the MLB level the hitters aren't chasing it as often and now he needs to learn to pitch down in the zone again.

I would say the opposite. it is a summary of a number of things so you dont need to delve into the minutia all the time.

The coaching staff really doesn't matter that much. It's the talent on the field that is the overwhelming variable in winning. The Royals won with Ned Yost. That's all you really need to know. As far as the rest of it is concerned, the self reflection is important but again, doesnt really pertain to how aggressive Hahn will be. It identifies needs but as we saw last off season, what they need and IF they will be aggressive are two independent variables. One does not beget the other.

Anderson batting 7th makes sense for a little due to his returning to form post injury. He looked like his timing and comfort was off. However, once he was doing well, I agree he needs to be moved up. I'm not generally a fan of the lineup optimizer. It uses averages over a period of time and discounts individual players having nagging injuries, performance against certain pitchers or any other number of issues that players can have.

I disagree. It gives you a good idea of his value to the win from the pitching aspect. Of course it's not the only thing and it is on the lower 3nd of the stats as discussed but it has value regardless of the actual term. Everyone has their preferences. I look at some of the ones you mentioned but one I really like that doesnt get enough attention is SIERRA.

It is on the lower end but I would weight it heavier than many others. There is still value in having a pitcher pitch long enough in games to accumulate a win. Unfortunately the value that you are discussing has helped to shape the starting pitcher role into the shorter outings and wearing out the arms of pitchers today. Yes, I know I'm old and this value isn't present due to the stats that show you win more games when everyone just tries to strike everyone out. However, as injuries pile up using this philosophy, I think they may start to swing towards the NBA version of load management. I just hope it's to adjust the effort in a game and not to a 6 man staff to decrease the load. There really aren't enough MLB quality pitchers now, let alone if all team try to forgo to a 6 man rotation.

exactly. people too easily fall in love with the newest toy and exclude all others when in reality they should be taking information from all of them. I call this the continuing education syndrome in the PT profession. it's amazing that once you go to a course to learn about something new that all of a sudden almost all of your patients have this issue when you have never seen it before.

Be sure to take into consideration that he is practicing against one of the best defenses in the NFL. This will cause anyone to struggle but in the long run will tighten up his play.

I wonder if some of the adjustments with Sox prospects is from the parks they play in. The AA seems difficult to hit in then the AAAc seems easy to hit in. After making those adjustments they need to normalize their approach at the MLB.

Yes it can. The subacromial bursa is the buffer between the supraspinatus tendon, one of the primary stabilizer of the glenohumeral joint/the primary rotator cuff muscle and the bone on top, the acromion. If those start to rub together it's going to limit the effectiveness and could easily cause a change in performance. It's a minor surgery as in he will return to pitching but how it changes the performance has yet to be seen. If you want to follow the kinematic chain, the shoulder issue could easily have caused the UCL injury. The bursa area (subacromial) is stressed with a higher arm angle. If it hurts pitchers tend to drop the arm angle which guess what....adds stress to the elbow. I still thinks the shoulder and elbow issues are tied to his poor follow through and deceleration (or lack thereof). However, it's certainly possible it was caused by the scenario I stated above.
