Sorry it wasn't meant that way. Just that when people blame the "trainer" for the condition or preparation of an athlete, they continually refer the the athletic training staff with Brain Ball and his group and it is wholly incorrect. One group is medically based and licensed, the other is not. As I am a licensed physio and athletic trainer but have never been a strength/ condition coach. So it's not pedantry.
-
While I don't disagree with your concept you are confusing the title "trainer." The medical athletic trainer is the person who runs on the field for injuries and is involved in the evaluation and rehab of injuries. The strength and conditioning coach "trainer" is more involved in just the sport science and performance. The 2 do blend together somewhat but the vast majority of the medical staff isn't involved in the performance aspect (except post injury) and the Strength and conditioning group doesn't have the medical training.

Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans
ptatc replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You can be excited about and not trust what rothe FO will do in the off season, in the off season. Why complain now when the off season isn't happening. Enjoy the good players and progress now, complain when they dont do what you want them to do in the off season. The preemptive b****ing about the future is pointless and makes many on here just seem to bear a grudge and not be able to enjoy anything to do with the team. -

Why would they broadcast their plans to the agents and competition? -

You are discussing the past failures and not looking at the current progress. Not trusting the FO has nothing to do with the current progress of the young players at the MLB level and the minors. These players are here, it looks like many will be good. -
Because his flaws are the most common reason the prospects fail at the MLB level, lack of contact. I dont necessarily agree but I understand his point.

But why now when there is finally some good players and at least the possibility of good seasons to come. People should be getting more positive not more pessimistic. -

I think it is a little difficult to comprehend. This is the first year in a long time that there is actual hope on the horizon, Moncada, Jimenez, Anderson, giolito as well as the group in the minors, robert, madrigal. Yet many of the sox fans seem to be getting worse in their criticism and comments. The rhetoric out the now should be decreasing and incrasing. I for one am baffled as well. For once there is hope but certain fans seem to want to stomp harder. -
I think he is to the point that he needs to learn to get MLB hitters out not AAA hitters. He would benefit more from doing this at the MLB level than AAA. In addition he needs to build up his endurance and strength and frequently skipping starts isn't conducive to that. The best plan is to either start him out on a regular schedule and shut him down early or start him on the IL and make his first start in June. However, either way they are without a member of the rotation for a couple of months.

Cooper doesn't preach mechanics only about balance and staying tall to throw downhill. He does preach less velocity to increase movement. From my understanding this is the problem some pitchers coming from the outside have with him such as Samardzija.
-
Pitching in AAA doesn't decrease his workload. The phantom IL time allows him to not pitch and decrease his overall innings. No matter which way they do it, they need to find a way to keep his overall innings, regardless if it's MLB or MiLB, to about 170-180 absolute max, maybe even 160-170 due to the injury.
-
They did it with Jimenez too. He didn't come up in august and September due to these reasons. He only started the season in the MLB because of the offseason contract. He struggled the first month or 2 until he started learning the league. If these couple of months were August and september last year, who knows where his season would be offensively. Also getting experience in the MLB OF may have made a difference with his defense as well as he has shown improvements lately, prior to getting injured of course.
-
He has never played more than 70 games in a season in his career and he is already at 85 this year. My guess is that with his injury history they want to mitigate his fatigue that could lead to injury.
-
Nothing significant and nothing to do with his elbow. Besides kopech not only has the injury issue but also the variables that he has only pitched 14 MLB innings and hasn't pitched more than 134 innings in a season. Even if he never had an injury, he wouldnt pitch more than 170-180 innings.
-
they did the right if unpopular thing with Strasburg for his future.
-
Wow that's about 4 weeks. Hopefully it was just a mild injury and they aren't rushing him.
-
Impossible with a pitcher who has pitched at most 140 innings in a season and coming off surgery. Unless you want next season to be his last.
-
It's really the only way to build up the season and keep his progression going. as I said the other way is to limit his innings per start early and have a piggy back pitcher. I'm not sure how that would go over either. It's easier to do in the minors but they will lose his services for the first half of the season then so he'll need to continue his learning curve when the sox are in contention. He was showing progress when he pitched last year but he was by no means dominant.
-
I've got the commemorative posters from his no-hitter and his perfect game signed by him up in the man cave. He said he wouldn't sign them but there is a family connection and he signed them specifically to me and my father. also he sent a note along that he trusts we will not never sell them and they are personal gifts.
-
Your workload idea is a little off. He can't pitch once per week and maintain the strength and endurance that he needs. It would need to be more like limiting his innings per start to 4. I think your more likely scenario is that they pitch him in the MLB at the normal rotation and if they are in it in July they acquire a pitcher at the deadline to finish the season for Kopech. Or the pitcher that takes Kopech's place is Rodon toward the end of the season. he'll be ready. I don't think is a prayer in Hades that the sox will sign 2 SP. I'm not sure they will sign one high end pitcher. Those contracts are just scary. I think they sign one mid-level pitcher and go with Giolito, Cease, Kopech, lopez and acquired pitcher.

Because some other team convinces themselves they really need it and gives into the demands.
