  1. Got it. Sorry. I thought you were talking about the MLB. There is no doubt the worst thing that happens to these kids is pitching all year long from summer travel, to fall league to their regular season. They should be doing other sports during their developmental years. Unfortunately in the environment today high school coaches won't even look at kids unless they play travel ball all year long.
  2. I still think it was Ricky out smarting everyone by wanting a better player so he played Alonzo until Hahn traded him. (sarcasm, everyone).
  3. He was expected to be back in time for the season as I recall. I could be wrong.
  4. Achilles tendon ruptures are so rare that they usually aren't even in the discussion. However rehab us usually only about 6 months so he would have been able to return next year. Depending on the severity if each, many fractures especially fibula ones can return earlier than a high ankle sprain. it's not uncommon for a severe one to take 12 weeks. His didn't look too bad so I doubt it's that long but you never know.
  5. If you are afraid of a foul ball, sit in the upper deck to watch the game. When my kids were little I always sat in the upper deck or outfield on purpose to protect them. I'm not saying it isn't a good idea to have the nets, it will protect people. However a little fore thought goes a long way. I think one thing MLB teams should do is allow the season ticket holders in the seats that will have the new nets in front of them to change seats or get a refund. they are changing the experience for them.
  6. There isn't anyway near 100% incidence in injury rate, if I'm reading your post right. The current ucl rate in MLB pitchers is about 30%.
  7. In Japan the pitchers pitch less due to a 144 game season and six man rotations. The most starts they make in a season is about 24. Their mechanics are different mostly due to the fact that they are smaller and weigh less than American counterparts and generate less torque. They throw more between but get more rest between starts. Here is a decent article on it. 2325967119825625.pdf
  8. The MRI for signees already happens. The partially torn rehab already happens as well, it's just not perfect. They are pretty good though.
  9. No doubt but it could be some time.
  10. On this we somewhat agree. I do think the pitchers don't work enough. Part of the reason is that there needs to be so many more pitchers today than in the past that not all of them could handle it. In the past if pitchers showed talent but got injured the mindset was, just get the next one this guy couldn't handle it. Teams can't afford to do that today as more pitchers are needed for the increased number of teams and games.
  11. People have brought the "pre-emptive" surgery idea up before. It has 2 significant draw backs. 1. Only 85% get back to their previous level of play. That's really good but with no injury is a senseless risk. 2. The 1 in 100,000 chance of significant side effects including death, from the anesthesia. It's really not worth the risks to do the surgeries with those risks.
  12. That's what they say, just not in this thread. And I thought I could derail a discussion.
  13. Part of it is. They will be looking for the separation of the tibia and fibula which is the joint injured during a high ankle sprain. This joint is just too important to the long term stability of the ankle to take any chances.
  14. He's not wrong. A severe high ankle sprain can easily take 8 weeks or more. Just depends on the severity. Hopefully, it's not to severe.
  15. An eversion sprain is to the inside of the ankle. An inversion sprain is to the outside.
  16. I highly doubt that the academic side contributes to the athletic programs at Kansas. Most big highly successful programs like Kansas generate so much more revenue than academia can. The government does tax most of the revenue from athletics. None of the sports have private transportation unless you consider charter flights private.
  17. Outside of work, the best one when I was flying to Arizona one Spring and my seat was next to Harold Baines. Got to sit and just talk to him for the plane ride. Extremely nice guy and very fun to talk to, even though he is very quiet and soft spoken.
  18. if it's an eversion sprain it's not a high ankle sprain. those are caused by inversion sprains.
  19. It depends on what you mean by student instruction. Do you include faculty salary in that? Faculty salary is typically about 70% of the budget. Administration is about 15%.
  20. Garcia was acquired right about this time of the season but Contreras was acquired at the July 31 deadline. It's possible to get them now but not very often. It's even more difficult now compared to 2004 with the second wild card. Deals this time of year are tough.
  21. I can't find much on what the surgery was but this is his 4th shoulder surgery. He missed almost half a season after one of them.He doesn't miss many games overall but it is a cause for concern.
  22. It's either him or Jirschele for the next manager. My bet is jirschele.
  23. This is unrealistic though. No one is trading a quality starter at this time of year. Most teams are still in the race for a wild card and if they aren't they probably don't have a pitcher the Sox want. Even if they are willing, the price is probably too high right now. It will be interesting to see how the trade market changes with no extended waiver trade deadline this year.
  24. Typically the repairs that have 8ssues later in are because they are too tight. This causes the heel to not be able to contact the ground enough and the usual problems that occur are arch or toe issues. They fact that his heel us the issue shows he can get the heel down. This isn't to say they can't be related it just makes it less likely and definitely not very bad news at this point.

I would go so far to say it's a good thing they struggled early and have shown they can learn and adjust from those struggles.
