  1. Could it be the other way around. Last year he was in over his head, lost confidence and was timid throwing. This year he has confidence and is letting tge ball just fly with confidence. the sox saw enough in him to draft him as a rule 5 and keep him. I dont think it was a 90 fastball and poor off speed stuff.
  2. Thats more like it. A grade 2 should heal in 3-6 weeks
  3. You obviously havent been part of Soxtalk for very long. ?
  4. The big factor that may cap the ceiling on Cease is the higher walk total with command issues compared to Dunning. Dunning is far more advanced in thos area.
  5. I agree with you. However, with the focus on HRs I think many fans will be bash him in the future for it.
  6. That's fair for a disagreement. I just don't see it with his swing and approach.
  7. I agree with the extra bases and doubles power. I just think we are going to hear a lot of people complain about his lack of HRs once he gets to the MLB. I don't think it's an issue with everything else he can do. but to expect that he will hit 15-20 HRs is unrealistic. It's not his game.
  8. I view it as a negative for his HR production not as a pure hitter. He isn't going to use that swing except if the are really far ahead or behind. His typical swing isn't going to generate HR power. I agree he's he has the potential to be a really good pure hitter that bat control is a good sign for that.
  9. So you're saying they've got a chance? (can't resist bad movie quotes)
  10. That could be true except that he actually had his best power year in 2018. He had only one fewer HRs and more triples in 36 fewer games. His Slugging% were 2016: .456, 2017: .532, 2018: .536. I think it was a great pick and he has the potential to be an outstanding player in the MLB. But with his swing I don't think he is going to hit for much power. The example of the video where he "had the weird practice swing" showed it. The only reason he hit that HR was because they were winning 12-1 and he basically swung stright up at a really high launch angle to elevate it enough to hit it out.
  11. It possible. However, the rumor implication was that the FO was deciding between Madrigal and Singer. KW made to look the bad guy who was sticking to Singer while everyone else wanted Madrigal. It wasall leaked to disinform the teams picking around them, to disguise their true intentions.
  12. You mean the whole KW insisting on Singer was a ruse? No, I find that hard to believe that a FO would leak false information.
  13. Depends, they may want to limit his exposure to look good. There is over 6 weeks to build value. Thats enough time without over exposing him.
  14. With the PRP recently, Im surprised he is coming back this soon.
  15. Sounds painful. I went to the physician for that.
  16. The article says 6-1. I havent read anywhere that the reason for the gold glove 2B defense was because of height.
  17. What is the average height of an MLB SS? I doubt it's more than 6 foot. I wonder what his vertical is and if that may make up a couple pf inches. What if he gets to more laterally because of his speed that others would not have been able to get to? Does that even out?
  18. He is not going to be a below average hitter. He's going to be a really good hitter just not with the HR power. He can still get to an .800 OPS with on base skills and doubles power, if he plays to his potential.
  19. Not to put a damper on things but he isn't going to help the Sox "stop walking people" malady. Hopefully he will add a little more stability though.
  20. Yeah, the TV money would be a little harsh. The trade restriction wouldnt allow the acquisition of a good quantity of young players. Thats why i thought a monetary penalty would disvourage being awful while still allowing teams to rebuild with young players.
  21. I was talking with some UK friends about competitiveness in sports. They couldnt understand the tanking idea. I explained the benefits while agreeing its bad for the sport. We were trying to come up with a way to discourage this practice for the benefit of the sport albeit while heavily imbibing. Taking the idea of lower division in soccer, what if teams that lose more than 90 games lose any monetary compensation from the league but retain the player and draft advantages. This way they can still rebuild but it will discourage being truly awful.
