  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Interesting. Whatever happens may force the Cubs to get rid of their ivy, and pad the bricks. There are exposed bricks in a lot of parks in the infield especially behind the plate to give an old time look. It is unfortunate what happened. I really wish he didn't sue, although it does suggest his rehab isn't going so well. Also, they may have to do something about the dugouts. You get blasted in the face sitting in the stands by a foule ball, and most courts throw those suits out. A freak injury like this shouldn't be worth big bucks. He is going to the stands, he knows there is danger. There shouldn't be a danger on the field that is easily fixed. Everyone is made aware of the brick wall before each series. Unless the White sox inform each team that there is a dangerous electrical box that the stadium authority decided not to cover in this spot, the authority should be held liable. That is an unnecessary danger. All they need to do is enclose it in a pad. Would surprise me if it is normally padded but a worker forgot to replace it after having to use it.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) They just need to trade for the free agents they want to sign, show them the culture, and they are hooked. True. Because nobody cares for anything except money.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) This is moment of impact. The box he supposedly hit his RIGHT knee on is on the left side of him in front of the stairs. I just don't buy that. It's an odd injury to get in a guy that age without hitting something like that.
  4. QUOTE (Scoots @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 09:41 AM) Yeah I just watched it as well...the Sox, or ISFA, have more merit in this case than I thought. I mean, if they did pad the actual box itself, would that padding have been enough to stop that injury? Also, he was running full speed like the entire way, not attempting to slow down even at the warning track. That right there is negligence on HIS part for not assuming risk of injury, or maybe it was a calculated one on his part. I mean, it's not like it was a high pressure in game situation, even if it was his first MLB game. Idk. But, now that I see that the box wasn't sticking out in the field of play (whether blatantly or "intentionally hidden" as the suit seems to suggest), I don't feel so bad for the guy. Most likely. This type of injury was a slicing or cut type. If the edges were blunted by padding it probably would have have prevented it. I do feel sorry for the the guy. regardless of who is at fault it has the potential to be a career changer and not for the better.
  5. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:50 PM) I actually really like Luke's death. The 3 most powerful Jedi all went out by transcending the Force. It mirrored Obi Wan in that Luke realized showing the antagonist the true power of the Force was more important than a sword fight. Agreed. they need to find ways to remove the "old group" while slowly phasing in the "new group." I thought it was a good way.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) I had his injury and it's a nightmare. Way worse than an ACL. Apparently his tendon was basically cut in half by the box. That's even worse than mine and he might never play high level baseball again. Most times you rip the tendon off the patella and the surgeons will repair it by drilling holes in the patella and attaching it using kevlar. You can recover and play high level sports again (Jimmy Graham) but it's a long ass road back. I am not sure how they even repair a tendon that is cut in the middle. The patella tendon is the 2nd largest tendon in your body after the achilles and is just as important. Yeah, it's a tough one when its a midsubstance tear. It's like trying to tie two pieces of spaghetti together. The internal augmentation device is needed to hold it together while it heals. He should be able to play again but it is a tough one and he'll probably miss a good chunk of this year. edit: I didn't explain the internal augmentation device. It will be a type of synthetic substance such as gortex or the kevlar. They will weave it through the tendon to add stability to the structure as it won't be as strong as it can be for about 18 months. He'll probably play earlier than that but tendon (and most tissues) take about that long to achieve full tensile strength.
  7. QUOTE (ron883 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) Good. Rein$dorf owes him millions of it is true about the box not being padded. That may have ruined his career. If that costs the sox the price of a big name FA, the fans will be out with pitchforks for Jerry. It won't be JR. The ISFA is responsible for the ballpark and facilities. The white sox just rent the place. He does have a legitimate case here. It will be interesting to see the settlement.
  8. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 12:16 AM) Oh, and I think I liked TFA better. This one had SOO many unanswered questions. I hope the 3rd one ties it all in, but just a lot of stuff that didn't seem to matter or left me unfulfilled. I didn't love it. I agree with everything you say here. Very good not great.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) Because the Sox interest makes zero sense Why? It makes perfect sense. He will be in his prime when the white sox have their window to compete. As long as thy are convinced they can sign him to a long term deal, it's perfect. they will have a very low payroll with the young players for the next 5 years.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) QFT Quantum Field Theory?
  11. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) I can't wait until I can start blaming the next generation for all sorts of things and stuff! It's a rite of passage.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 11:45 AM) and Cedric. it also cannot be understated how different that defense was when Tommie Harris and Mike Brown were lost for the season. He was the key. A HOF talent no doubt wiped away by the devastating injury.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:23 PM) And not old people for creating the mess in the first place... Yes. Because no one else will take responsibility.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) I think Jerry Reinsdorf is to blame for any and all millennial issues. Don't forget KW. But it's mostly JR because he is too loyal.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Nope, just those self-entitled millenials like Michael Barrett. Pretty much everyone.
  16. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 08:35 AM) Excellent point. On the flip side--these are the guys who have been on top of their sport for their whole lives so their sense of entitlement is sky high. Entitled to AB's, innings, high leverage situations, status, anything typically earned really. Kinda off the baseball topic, but remember when we all thought corporate America would serve as a great wake up call for the millennials? Sounding more and more like corporate America is going to end up bending/breaking to accommodate them instead...sigh... This makes them the super millennials. Some corporations do I'm sure. But the sports world has to. They need the production on a very visible level.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:42 AM) I don't think kicking coworkers in the nuts works well at any age level, but maybe that is just me. Well. I'm assuming that he has matured a little beyond the actual physical confrontations.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 07:10 AM) lmao, what does AJ's attitude problems have to do with anything with millennials? The rough, tough, yelling, berating manager will not communicate well with millennials.
  19. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:41 PM) Corporate America deals with the challenge of dealing with millennial attitudes every day these days. Surprised we don’t read more about that as it relates to professional sports. I think you do. In the MLB more managers are being hired to manage the players not the game. With the move towards "stats managing" the managers aren't involved in the game as much. In the NFL you see the "players coach" type not the Bill Parcells type. Look at all the new hires. They are younger than some of the players.
  20. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) Catchers usually get shots at being a manager and many are successful at it. I honestly believe young players could get behind his personality. He’s got fire, he’s a gamer and does whatever it takes to get an advantage and win. Plus he calls a great game and has fun. Sure, a lot of guys are punks when they’re young and he’s no exception...but what better voice for a modern day punk to find maturity. His will to win won out over everything else. He’s a perfect managerial candidate in my opinion. Can he win?! Who knows...but the guy would get a shot if he ever wanted one, I’m sure. This is true. However, throughout his career even into his 30's he showed absolutely no signs of even being polite let alone wanted to work with most people. I don't think young people would respond to his personality. The young people in our grad program want to perceive themselves as near equals to most others and want respect immediately. Which there is nothing wrong with. however, I don't think that would go over well with AJ's personality. Again, unless he has changed drastically since he retired.
  21. QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) AJ is a winner, a student of the game, and would be a great Manager or broadcaster. I still have severe doubts about this. But maybe his views have chaqnged
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Mark Gonzales‏ @MDGonzales 1m1 minute ago AJ looks forward to working a broadcast with Hawk, wouldn't rule out managing if asked Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 5m5 minutes ago A.J. Pierzynski wants to broadcast a game with Ken Harrelson in 2018. 'We'll make it happen," he promised. Also has interest in coaching or managing one day. Chuck Garfien‏Verified account @ChuckGarfien 5m5 minutes ago AJ says he “will move heaven and Earth” to do a game with Hawk this season. Sounds like it’s going to happen. This stuns me. Never would've thought he would show any interest.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 11:36 AM) And if they don't sign the extension, they are almost certain to be traded because their current team won't want to lose them for nothing come free agency. It completely works both ways. Agreed. I just think in the current climate it's going to start leaning the other way.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) We signed these players before they had the established track record that could help them get a much larger contract. These players decided it was in their best interests to guarantee their financial futures vs. rolling the dice and coming up empty. For a young pitcher the risk of injury is significant and there is no guaranty you make it to free agency. Taking the $30-40 million still ensures that you will be financially secure for the rest of your life, don't discount that. True. But most pitchers will still wait it out at get the bigger payout during arb and earlier FA. Some will do it but I don't think it will be as many in this current climate of teams being more receptive to full rebuilds. With the full rebuilds these players are so marketable to to get prospects that they are almost insuring that they will be traded.
  25. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) Maybe, but if he got called for it maybe he would have stopped. If you were getting away with it, would you stop? Fuller has played very good all season imo He hasn't shown the ability to cover guys without doing it in the past. For most of his career he hasn't shown much. Even the coaches said they weren't expecting much from him and he only started due to injuries. Who knows maybe that woke him up. I wouldn't count on him enough to give him a long term deal.
