  1. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) This is the response I sent John, Thanks for the response. Speaking frankly, this is a bit frustrating. This package was marketed to fans as a value deal of a group of games. I realize things happen with April weather, but I believe it's disingenuous for the White Sox to walk back on the good faith value of 11 games for a refunded portion of a miniscule amount of money and 10 remaining games (maybe 9 now if tomorrow's weather is bad as well). The true value of this campaign is to get butts in seats in a down year, in my opinion, and I believe the White Sox always make a lot of money on concessions per fan, more than the value of the ticket that will go unsold. I would say that refunding $3.54 does nothing for the White Sox or me, but even a free upper reserved ticket in July gets me to a game, gets me to buy hot dogs, candy, beer and whatever else - and gets me to cheer on the squad. We both know this is a rebuilding year for this team, and that there are going to be dog games in July and August against not-popular teams where the organization will struggle at the gate - why give me $3.54 for each of two tickets back when the team could make $50 in concessions for giving ballpark passers the opportunity to exchange for an upper reserved ticket to a handful of organization-picked games? Sincerely, ***** how dare you makes sense, sir? I love the logical, reasoned response. If you just fire F-bombs and such they'll delete it without reading it. At least this way they'll read it.
  2. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) I feel like your view is correct from like 2007-2016. The Sox had a great offense with terrible pitching from like 98-2004. That sounds about right. I think from 91-97 both were pretty in general.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) You always have to look at the POTENTIAL of any offense. I'm not sure how long Abreu will be in a White Sox uniform, or how influential he is with Moncada...but Avi's definitely not part of the long-term picture. That said, JR cares about revenue, and there's nothing worse than a bad team with no offense. Traditionally, we had bad pitching and at least entertaining offense when our teams were mediocre since USCF was constructed. Really? My view was usually the reverse. Decent pitching with a poor offense.
  4. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) Sorry, I shouldn't have bitten your head off there. I am so used to having to defend myself against the "Go for it every year" folks. Now, most of them have jumped to the rebuild train. no worries. I'm doing the same thing to the posters who wanted to trade people and have a bad team and are now complaining about the bad team. If they were pushing for this they should go to the same or more games to support the plan. I still have my weekend season tickets and will continue to go to the games. Although we are going on a European vacation this year so I may miss a few more.
  5. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I wished, prayed, and now fully welcome it. I plan on going to as many games as possible too to show my support. Me too.
  6. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:47 PM) Your way sucked. Go watch some MiLB if you're upset. The Charlotte Knights have the most top 100 prospects of any team in the minors Obviously you are fairly ignorant to the discussions in other threads. The other way was not my way. i agree with this. However, I also am not complaining about the poor play I expect it. If you want this way as well, you should endure the poor play and support the team because this is what you wanted.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 03:26 PM) This is going to get old really fast. Welcome to what everyone is wishing for. For those who wanted it, they better keep watching and supporting the team.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) Q is probably the only player you pray gets off to a good start anderson
  9. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) I at least thought this would be close. Quintana has always struggled against Detroit. It continues.
  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 2, 2017 -> 06:38 PM) Lots of teams that look like they could use a David Robertson How is Jason Grilli still pitching in the MLB? He's got to be 174 years old.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) http://awfulannouncing.com/espn/many-fans-...inals-cubs.html Though I love analytics in baseball I've been somewhat skeptical of how it is used in broadcasts. It isn't a particularly verbal language, I think part of the reason WAR took off was it was easy to say. But it has been interesting to see the stats that have been pulled out and highlighted. The hit velocity stuff I really like, same with trajectory. But another is win probability. For some reason they think it's very interesting to show who is most likely to win throughout the game. I'm not sure I ever find win probability interesting. There are some cool analysis pieces showing how dramatically a game swung in one play and ranking it HISTORICALLY, but that's it for me. Probabilities are interesting when they are helping inform how you should act. Or elections over a long period of time, they help explain the "race". But in a game? A 2-hour game, where it quite obviously will swing? Boring. It's stupid. It isn't informative. It isn't interesting. Down with win probability. I'm not a hugefan of the analytics in broadcasts in general. I want to know what is happening during the game with current action. Much of the analytics detracts from this. But there are some that are moreannoying than others and Iagree win probability is one of them. Theyare just trying to get the fans to feel more they know more about the game than they do.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 08:55 AM) I don't disagree with you on the rareness of teams losing 100 games, but it does happen. My point is it will happen this year to this team if they don't improve on the brand of baseball they featured the last half of May last year, all of June, all of July, all of August, and all of September. And that improvement must come without the services of Sale and Eaton. It's going to be a challenge! Agreed, especially if they trade Quintana, Frazier and Robertson. They lost 84 last year. If you go by WAR Sale and Eaton were worth 9 wins which puts them at 75 wins. Hopefully, they bring up a few prospects and they perform well.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 08:20 AM) From the middle of May all the way through the end of the season, for the last 130 games equaling 80% of the season, the Sox played at a worse winning percentage than the 2013 team that lost 99 games. This was WITH Chris Sale and Adam Eaton on the team. Now for 2017 without those two star players in tow, and looking up and down this roster, I don't know how in the world a 100+ loss season can be avoided, particularly as the team sells off its remaining few good players as the season goes on. This is a huge hole Reinsdorf, Williams, and Hahn have dug for this organization, and it's going to get a little uglier at first before it gets better, starting with this upcoming season. The absolute only hope we Sox fans have right now is that the primary architect of the last failed effort at developing a sustainable winning ball club, Rick Hahn, will somehow have different results with this rebuild business. I don't think people realize how hard it is to lose 100 games. Last year there was only one team. This team is going to be bad, I predicted 90 loses. But with Anderson, Rodon and Abreu probably not being traded and a couple of acquired platyers being promoted 100 loses will be tough.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 04:40 PM) I don't need Seth Beer. They need to pick top 5 though. They need the bigger bonus pool and it would be ideal to pick top 5 in a loaded draft class. Winning 65 games is better than winning 75 games. Winning 75 games is a poor way to pull off what they're trying to do. If you are sitting home for the playoffs, you might as well reap the actual rewards of rebuilding. "Might as well" is a whole lot different than saying it's a total failure. It would benefit them if they lose more but it's not a total failure if they don't.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) If this team wins between 73-78 games the season was a tremendous failure. The whole reason to do this is to be really terrible. I don't think this is the case. The whole reason was to acquire prospect to really build for the future. If the players they currently have play better than expected, it helps the team in two ways and only hurts in one. It helps by 1) having players that other teams want in trades and 2) having a better base to help the prospects. It hurts only in draft position and moneys slots. Although I did say 72 which is below your 73 win failure level.

  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) That is a nice swing. Not very long at all. Wonder if he knows where right field is?
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) TV is the perfect retirement venue for AJ. Yes. He'll be good at it.
  19. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) I'd be interested in bringing him back in some capacity with the orignization. Whether that be as an announcer, as minor league coach, as a bench coach, etc. If it weren't for Ventura failing I'd really even be beating the drum for him as a chance as a future manager. But I think it'd be smart to let him learn the trade over a few years first. I think he'll thrive in his role with Fox though, should be interesting. He will not be a coach/manager. He doesn't have the "personality" for it.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) He also has flat feet. The bony issues are what caused this. I would guess that they a functional pronated (flat) feet as opposed to structural.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) This is worth the click... it's obvious his feet are royal f***ed up https://instagram.com/p/BSJkXGrFwrR/ Looking at this video, it's pretty obvious now as to why he has foot issues. Look at how much tibial varum (the bowing in) he has in his lower leg. His bone structure adds stress to either his knee or his feet. His issues manifested in his feet. This is not an easy issue to fix.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 23, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) Small sample size today, but he passed the eye test in-person today. Good at bats and he had quick hands on that HR (crushed it). The AB where he raked that double was nice. If he could play defense, we'd be on to something. I don't know if he'll hit good enough to be a DH. Everything is a small sample size until a players get 400 ABs in a season.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) I don't think they are a suitor at all. Seems to me it's the Astros, Braves and Yankees in that order. That does make the most sense. However, you never know if a GM gets a fire lit under him by a really good or really poor start to the season.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 24, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) Then why would Hahn still be talking with Huntington if he was insistent on not moving Meadows? It sounds like Meadows is a must for the Sox. Maybe Hahn isn't insisting on Meadows. He may be asking for a number of others instead of the single headliner and the Pirates can't afford to give up that many quality prospects.
