The term comes from the basic components of DNA and RNA, the Deoxyribonucleic acid. Nuclear medicine involves the nucleusof the molecule as stated above. The reason that it is put in the larger more well known nuclear medicine is simple: money. When apllying for grants especially federal grants the broader the classification the more chances there are at obtaining the research money.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) She is pretty, but I dont know that "Rockets" is a good description. Anna Benson is surely deserving of that nickname, but Mrs Dice-K seems like a pretty woman, thats about all. Hard to believe that Dice-K got suspended for having his car towed from the front of her place. How can a team dictate who you date? Code of Conduct is a whole different concept in Japan. Ask anyone who has spent significant time there involved in sports.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Totally agree. Thanks for helping me make my point. I'm certainly not qualified to be a GM...I leave that to the 30 presently doing it. And I think that Kenny has moved up to near the top of the list of best GMs in the game. Maybe not top 5, but pretty close. He doesn't make as many knee-jerk trades anymore and we shouldn't have knee-jerk reactions when a roster move is made. I hope that all of these moves work out and we win another World Series...just so I can see the haters eat their hats. But that's just the optomistic crazed White Sox fanatic in me. It's always easier to be the pessimist and rip every move. What's more likely we make the playoffs or we don't? There are so many factors which which go into a succeessfull season including luck. This especially true in the AL Central with 3-4 very good teams. The pessimists always have the advantage. Personally I'm an old realist who thinks we'll be better and that gives us a pretty good chance. After years in sports that is really all you can hope for.

Ah... first snowboarding day of the season

QUOTE(philadelphia sox fan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) There are two days I look forward to each and every year. Opening Day and the day Blue Mountian in PA opens. Today was the day for Blue and I took full advantage. I snowboarded down that hill at least 30 times (It's a small hill without all the trails up and running) and it was just a good day. I hit the snow a few times getting my legs back under me but by the end of the day, I was looking like the flyin tomato. Happy Snow Season Everyone I'm Green with envy. I can't wait to hit the slopes. I agree ti's the second best day of the year. -
QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) Good luck! Now that I have to teach and grade, I can honestly say that I'd rather take the finals than give them and grade them. I'm done now too!!!! This board is great for procrastination!!!!! I spend more time on here during finals than during games. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Marquette. Theo 1. Required core course. I honestly don't know how much I learned this semester. My professor is a real bright guy, but he's Russian and carries a real deep accent, and sometimes his writing on the board is hard to decipher. That being said, he's quite funny, he pokes fun at his heritage all the time, always (jokingly) comparing himself to the 'bad guys' in the James Bond films. That said, I got a 100% on the mid-term exam despite the fact that I was really worried about it. I'll gladly take repeated results on this next one. the guy I had for that course was a missionary just back from 15 years in Korea. He started the course by saying "At the center of all religions is catholism as it means universal, all of the rest are out on this spiral away from the truth" It was a painful semester.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) I can't speak for anyone else but the thing that bothers me is the KW quotes and the Cowley story that suggest/say that the Sox won't resign any of our pitchers (ie Buehrle) for being too expensive. That is cheap. I think it has more to do with the length o f the contracts not so much the money he has a problem with. Remember JR approved a market breaking deal with Albert Belle. He got burned with long deals to Britt burns, Richard Dotson and Floyd Bannister soon after his group bought the team. They are smart not to give long term deals to pitchers they rarely work out. The trick is to keep young, pitcher rotating through the team to keep winning. We'll see if KW can do it but I like the philosophy (of course communism is good in theory also why does everyone need to be so greedy.)

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) Again, if the team doesn't want to spend that much, they don't have to. A GM could just as easy say, "Wow, the Cardinals are offering that? Congratulations, that seems like a great deal for your player". What is Boras going to do when they walk away? Oh wait, maybe we're the only ones that have figured out that Boras may be lying about the comp offers, and the other GMs are stupid? This is true. The owners are going to pay what they think they can afford. They can always turn down offers. Owners are doing this to themselves. But that doesn't make his tactics right. Boras is the best at doing this. However that doesn't make the practice ethical. He is doing nothing illegal because lying is not against the law (unless it's under oath see Bill Clinton and Barry Bonds). He may be immoral which is why many teams do not draft his players or negotiate with him. If your philosophy is Maceveelian and "the ends justifies the means" you most likely agree with his tactics. this is where "he is a scumbag" comes from and I happen to fall in line with that idea.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) They already quoted a guy here about Clemens being on roids, why wouldn't they? Not that it means much but I've heard more rumors of Clemens being on steriods than Gagne. Probably more because he is higher profile and not the most pleasant person to deal with, though.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) I think Tank may already be on probation for weapons charges. He may be in a lot of trouble. If your neighbor was charged with it, you would probably feel differently. Tank appears to be a great football player, but a bad guy. That was the rap coming out of school. First round talent, less than stellar person.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Even if they sign Zito, their rotation still looks very weak on paper. Zito, Glavine, El Duque, then you've got Oliver Perez, John Maine, and Pelfrey/Humber for the last 2 spots, with maybe a Pedro sighting someday. That might be good enough to get to the playoffs in the NL, but it still looks like it could use a righty who can give you 200 innings. I agree it looks weak. I just think after spending the money on Zito that they would make another "blockbuster" move. I would think it would be a smaller scale move.
-
If they sign Zito it won't matter. Let's hope someone else beats them.

He wasn't a huge sports fan growing up. Actually other than baseball and a little basketball didn't play sports. He is a really great guy but not the toughest person in the world. His performance in the high school state baseball tournament in 1991 was legendary. If memory serves correctly he made only one out in the entire tournament. He either walked or got a hit in all the others ABs. I was a trainer for T-wood and he was a patient of mine after he fx his wrist in a collision at first base with Todd Hundley while playing for the Expos.

Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
ptatc replied to BobDylan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) Good point. If those Phillie fans had been around here last summer, they wouldn't be so happy about acquiring Garcia, either. I agree. Especially with the article from Phillie above. If Floyd's curveball has gone from 12-6 to 10-5 as stated, that is purely mechanical. What he is doing is dropping his arm angle to change the break on the ball. This reinforces the opinion that a mechanical alteration will benefit him. Sorry, I referenced the wrong statement. This was in reply to the idea that Floyd will be siting next to Cooper. -
QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) Joan Jett was on Last Call last night. Still sounds pretty good. Go-gos and Bangles are guilty pleasures as are the Runaways. As long as it was with Joan Jett AND Lita Ford!!!!

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) I knew he needed an MRI. Thank God he kept pitching hurt for the most of the year, so we couldnt of stretched out Bmac. He could of taken a rest, got stronger. MRIs rarely show anything accurrate in the shoulder. Most people in the medical profession say that MRI stans for More Radiographical Income. With pitchers wear and tear they may give aclue but are not significant. This is true for MR imaging in general. There was a study done where 300 people without back pain were given MRIs. About 80% came back positive for herniated discs. So either eveyone has herniated discs that are asymptomatic or MRIs are largely inaccurrate. Just keep that in mind when you read these items in the paper. This is one reason why initial "out much time they will miss" estimates are frequently wrong.

How does a company with just 13,000 employees have a 9 billion dollar business? What a profit.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) "The Big Show" just reported that Matsuzaka signed for 6 years, 52 million. wow, Boras loses. that's "only" 8.67 mill per season, and when added to the other 51 that he'll never touch? 17.1 mill per But you can bet Boras will reference the 17 mill when negotiating for Zito when it comes to signing. "See a pitcher with no experinence in the majors got 17 mil per year, my guy Zito is worth at least X amount because of his experience." Even though he argued with the Red Sox that the posting fee shouldn't be included in salary consideration. He is the best at convincing theowners to spend their money. It looks like the Red Sox didn't budge much though.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) I'll be laughed at but the Red Sox made the three best signings of the offseason, without question in my opinion. Based on money, team needs, etc. The only one I would question is the number of years for Drew given the injury history. There is no doubt about the talent but how often will he see the field.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) The article I read stated early December, so that is actually promising news. Give me Toby Hall....he's a tough out against LHP and doesn't strike out much. I'll also add to the fact that he's one of the nicest guys in the game. He'll also be able to bust guys with corked bats.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) Can you smell it? It's the Sandy Alomar Jr. experience coming back soon to the Cell. Only as a coach I hope.

Usually when someone is on steriods there are rumors and talk. I haven't heard any about him. That's not saying he isn't but I don't think it's likely. Pitchers use steroids more for endurance and the ability to recover faster, not to throw harder.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) I will also say it's better for baseball that players compete in the boardroom as well as on the field. How would baseball look if players wanted so bad to wear Yankee pinstripes that they would play there for less? That they valued winning so much that they would congregate on one team for much less? But my main point is blame Boras all you want, but it is misdirected. He can ask all he wants, it takes someone to write the check. I blame the owners. But did you tell them to offer you less? That's the point. The company made you an offer. Would you have told them to pay you less so they could increase marketshare? Hire more/better employees? Make more corporate profits? When Boras lies about what a team offers his players to another team is this him being a good agent to get his player the better deal or is it unethical? Because of the threat of collusion the owners can't discuss thier offers. He can essentially have teams bid against themselves as he did with Alex Rodriguez and Texas.
