I don't believe Soriano will play the outfield for a new team. He will sign where they promise him he can hit more HRs than any other 2B.

From reading the comments in the paper the last few days, it seems we have two guys at 30 and near 30 who have finally realized they are not kids anymore and realize they need to work out appropriately. Hopefully they've learned their respective lessons and will come back strong next year.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) Its a shame the Sox set the attendance record the year they had a 3rd place team. I wonder how season ticket renewals will go. The waiting list was a good idea, but another year like this one and I think tumbleweeds will be spotted at USCF at least for the April and September games. This is Chicago White Sox. It's the "we aren't coming until you show us something". It doesn't surprise me that after winning last year people finally come to the games. I would think that it's common to have better attendance after you win. Also, the attendenace was artificially inflated by the people who had to buy season tickets in order to get the playoff tickets last year. Remember it's how many tickets are sold not how many are at the ballpark.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Chances of Michael Young and Carl Crawford being on different teams next year, not very good. I think the chance of them being on different teams is near 100% I'm not sure if it's Texas and Tampa but they won't be on the same team. You have to have some humor after a season like this.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Sep 23, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) let's see, we've had Sandy Alomar, Jim Thome, Robbie Alomar, Albert Belle, Kenny Lofton and others. Surely there is some really old former Indian who needs cash and would be willing to play left field for us next year. If we're going to get somebody from Arizona, how about .... CHRIS YOUNG??????????? Strikes out too much

QUOTE(shipps @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) exactly. And they were talking about how the trackstars all of sudden developed narcolepsy, hence needed stimulants to stay awake during a race. The amount that they normally precribe for this problem is far below the banned level. In order for the drug to help a person without the problem is really high. like the female swimmer a couple of years ago who said she tested positive for high levels of testestorone because of her birth control pills. The birth control pillls do contain testosterone but she would need to take 300 pills a day to reach the banned levels. Remember there are a lot of banned substances but it is the level of the substance which is banned. Caffiene is a banned substance for Olympic sports. But the level which is banned equates to 100 cups of coffee a day. Even the olympic sports give waivers. This is basically for saying that be aware they may be some in the system but the level should be far below the banned levels. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 11:17 AM) Ritalin is a useless drug. I was forced to take it for many years b/c of what I think was a bullcrap daignosis of ADHD it's not useless. It's actually very effective. But it's like the other poster said, it's the most overprescribed drug because the MD uses it as a basket drug instead of getting the correct diagnosis. Even it didn't help you, you were probably just a problem child which didn't need the medical attention.

QUOTE(ILoveThisGame @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) After the game yesterday on Detroit's Sports report, Konerko stated that throughout his career in Chicago he has never seen this team so banged up. Also stated that this team is really tired right now. Finished his comments by stating that it's not an excuse, but a shorter offseason does take a hit on you. I have been hearing about this for the last 3 weeks. Why would you go on about this when you know the opposing team is listening to your comments? This team over the entire second half has grounded into more double plays and taken less walks than anyone in baseball. They have swung at so many pitches out of the strikezone. Over and over pitchers keep jamming us in and we keep grounding out. Earlier in the season we would take a pitch, wait for the one down the middle and not miss it. They do look tired, but isn't that why they get paid the big bucks. No "greenies" this year.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) Garcia did not have a crappy first half he had a crappy April, June, July and horrid August. Perhaps I just don't understand why a pitcher would suck for 5/6 of the season then when the season is all but over decide to add a new pitch, something that is appearantly helping him pitch with better success. Why the hell did he wait 5 and a half months to add a new pitch? I don't understand why he's getting so much credit for this when he should have been experimenting with new pitches earlier in the season when he was pitching like s*** and the games actually meant something. Appearantly Freddy Garcia is smarter than I give him credit for, he's managed to pitch like s*** for more than half the season then turn it on when it means nothing, saving his job next year. If he pitches like this in June and pitched now like he did in June the guy would have a one way ticket out of town. My bet is once he realized how tired his arm was from all of the innings he knew the velocity wasn't returning, he decided to change and learn a new pitch. He did not learn to control that pitch overnight. Pitchers just don't do that . He's been working on it on the side and waited until he felt comfortable with it. What bearing does this have on next year . My vote is to trade which ever one brings the most in return. If it's fairly equal Vazquez goes.

You can see that Thomas still cannot run. He has only 9 doubles in over 400 ABs. He is hitting a ton of homers because he needs to. I'm hoping to see him go to the HOF just not with stats from the upcoming weekend.

QUOTE(shoota @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) With Minnesota playing tomorrow, and the Sox having the day off, I'm excited to see the .5 game differences disappear. I like whole numbers. The OCD is coming through

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Pods' basehit was through the left side between the 3B and SS. That's right. Even more players hitting the oppostie way. Although not consistently enough. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) Popups don't necessarily tell you where a person was trying to hit the ball. If you're trying to pull a ball and you hit a pitcher's pitch into the air, it may well wind up going anywhere. Especially if the pitcher either gets in on your wrists or off the plate away. True but by the way they where leaning, especially Konerko, I got the sense that they were trying to shoot it the other way.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 01:00 AM) Its real simple. Santana was doing what every pitcher has been doing to us this second half. He was going low and away to our righties. In one inning, we decided to attack that, and we hit the ball up the middle and the other way. Besides that we acted shocked that we were getting feed low and away. Look at Crede with men on against K rod. 94 low and away and you see a pathetic swing. These are guys going up to the dish not having a clue on what the approach is. Unless you have the reach of Vlad you cannot I repeat cannot pull a low and away 94 mph pitch and do too much with it. The fact that our team goes up night after night without an approach for a simple way that people have taken to attack a myopic power hitting team, its either the hitters are retarded or our hitting coach is stubborn. I go with both. When I watched the game last night I saw the opposite. I was thinking why the hell is everyone trying ti flip the ball the opposite way. Kornerko and the other righties were popping out to the first baseman and Gurrero all night. There was no effort to pull the ball. Pods had a base hit up the middle at hit it back to the pitchers twice. Guess it's just a matter of perspective.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:18 AM) Are you serious?? How can like this guy?? He's a cheater, and he's the biggest dick ever Remember when he broke the record, steroids were not against the rules in baseball. I know they were against the law if not prescribed by a physician but so is cocaine and I haven't seen any one's stats taken away due to cocaine use (Tim Raines, Paul Molitor). And yes he is the biggest dick ever

QUOTE(chisox72 @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) You would think that, but it is Ozzie we are talking about. His fascination with guys who flat out suck, coupled with his blatant mistrust of young players, and his inability to look beyond his "match-ups", give me all the reason in the world to believe that Sweeney will get a spot-start here and there over the rest of this month and that's it. His lineup last night all but guaranteed a loss....and quite frankly, I am tired of "tipping my cap" to the competition. Lets start putting a real f***ing baseball team out there.... that's true. It's not like he trusted a rookie to close out World Series games or anything.

Look at all of the unearned runs the affiliates gave up. It was a poor day for the defense!!!!!

Did anyone else notice that when the Twins have someone in scoring postion or had the game on the line, the hitters tried to hit the ball up the middle. It seems common philosophy that this should be the approach. However, in the first two games of the series, the Sox middle infielders were playing away from the middle of the field. it was especially noticable in the game where macdougal gave up the winning run. Every ball went up the middle. Mac got to one of them but the infielders couldn't quite get to the slowly hit ones up the middle. I don't knowif this is poor scouting or Ozzie's paln but we need to play them differently next time.

Floyd Landis tests positive for testosterone
ptatc replied to Balta1701's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Not only that but there a very few reasons that anyone would have an elevated T/E ratio naturally. Especially when none of his previous tests had this result. -
QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) As we discussed yesterday, yes I personally believe this is exactly what's going on. Jim H is correct. The year after a world series win the starters tend to be worn down and less effective. KW knows this and this is why went went and got Vazquez. There may be more going on and could be the basis of the rumors. I know I've beat this notion into the ground and have been put down but I believe that is what is happening and the rotation does need help.

While I do agree the Morgan is an idiot and full of himself, he is right about the gun. That ESPN gun had Cotts throwing 97.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) When was the last time we played The Astros? Im not sure but i think we sweept them. I think you're right. As a matter of fact I believe it was a 4 game series not a 3 game series like most are. that is what made it stand out in my mind. I just can't remember when it was...... -
I believe that the velocity issue has a lot to do with the short off season and recovery time. Many articles have been written about the effect of a wrold series run on a pitching staff. This includes the longer season and shorter off season. Garcia has the added workload of the world baseball classic, having to begin earlier than most pitchers. With this combination of extra work it's a wnoder he can lift the arm let alone be as effective as he his.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 19, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) The team that's taking the biggest hit is ... the indians. They were supposed to win the damn thing, according to many experts. At last glance, they are closer to KC than Detroit in the standings. The Twinkies just zoomed past them this weekend. Injun players gotta be wondering what the hell is going on. As for the Tigers, I gotta figure their pitching will backslide at some point. The Gambler usually softens in the second half. Can't believe verlander can withstand the load and Maroth has already gone down. But ... I'm getting tired of waiting for them to crack. However, the indians will get healthy this week. They are playing the Cubs.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 16, 2006 -> 12:12 AM) Pollite should just have the surgery if it is bone chips like it's being indicated. Have it now, be ready for the playoffs. I believe the article in the paper said he had bone spurs not chips. The difference is significant. Bone spurs are attached to the acromion which is bone on top of the shoulder. With rehab and meds this is a controlled situation and he could pitch without further incidence. If they are chips they are free floating in the joint capsule and could get in the way of the shoulder motion at anytime without rhyme or reason. With the large range of motion a pitcher puts his shoulder through the chips would always be getting in the way. I doubt he has the latter problem. If he did, I don't think he would be returning this soon.
