QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) In what way? I agree that it was way over the top and historically inaccurate, but those were some of its intentions. There's also the fact that there was no tension in the movie and no narrative drive. That kinda drives a film into the ground.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) you think hollywood is telling us something with all these 'post-apocolyptic' films in production? It's to draw in all those crazies that think the Rapture is going to come pick them up sometime soon.

That Orton/HHH angle was just AWFUL! Threatening to have HHH arrested when he'd been kicking non-wrestlers IN THE HEAD FOR MONTHS??????? HHH claiming to be "a bad guy" - WHAT? And the whole not having them touch unless physically provoked is such a joke cliche. Just awful - and last weeks was so good too. Edge/Big Show - snore...................... yes, I know Cena will be in there too, but still........ snore..................... And Jericho will be fighting Hogan (I think) - that's the only place this angle can go.

Christ, there's a lot to reply to here. You can like or dislike Nirvana's music, HOWEVER there are probably like 10 artists that changed "rock and roll" music in earth-shattering, fundamental ways, and they are one of them. To deny this (whether you were there or not - and if you weren't, and don't know how important they were, I'm sorry for you) is to not know the history of rock music in the US. I'm sorry if this offends, but it's true. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 06:01 PM) It's OK to not like Nirvana. If there is an end-all-be-all to music they certainly aren't it. Again. There was Elvis, then the Beatles, and then Nirvana. That about sums it up. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) Let me guess, it's the Hold Steady, right? LOL - or TV on the Radio. Blehhhh. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Nirvana isn't a bad band the same way Pearl Jam isn't a bad band, but I'll still take the Cocteau Twins or the Pixies before any 90's grunge band. Nirvana wasn't grunge. They sounded nothing like Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, early Soundgarden, and the like. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 06:20 AM) The Beach Boys could have put it on autopilot and mailed it in for several more years if the Beatles hadn't come along when they did and give pop music an alternative. the Beach Boys & The Beatles were contemporaries. If anything, they were both extremely popular in the US until the Sgt Pepper album and the Smile abortion. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 07:17 AM) The Beach Boys/Beatles situation is similar. By late 1963/early 1964, the Beach Boys sound was largely played out, and a post-JFK assassination America was ready for a new direction. It could have and would have been some lesser band, but fortunately for music it was the Beatles. They were astounding and fresh and different, but there certainly is a right time/right place component there as well. This just isn't true. The Beach Boys were still insanely popular through 63, 64, 65, and the year that their universally-lauded masterpiece, Pet Sounds, was released, in 1966. It wasn't until 1967/68 that the Beach Boys' popularity started to decline, and this was because of the rise of the counterculture movement, not necessarily because of the Beatles, although they benefitted.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) 25 TD's and 20 turnovers isn't very good. But hey, he throws the ball hard so let's trade 80,000 picks for him. BTW- here's my newest mock for the Bears: 1. Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi 2. Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers 3. Sherrod Martin, FS, Troy 3. Tyronne Green, OG, Auburn 4. Phillip Hunt, DE, Houston 5. Marko Mitchell, WR, Nevada 6. Londen Fryar, CB, Western Michigan 7. David Veikune, DE, Hawaii 7. Russell Allen, OLB, San Diego State If they don't take CB/S or DE in the first, I will be very upset.

They've wrestled before with not breaking up so I wouldn't worry just yet. All in all, an average show with a good but nonsensical ending. Why did Orton drop the sledgehammer FIRST???? And crap, is he still boring as hell on the mic! Jericho was right - he is a charisma black hole. Speaking of which, promo of the night goes to Ricky Steamboat????? That was pure gold.

QUOTE (Greenman @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Oh give me a f***ing break, ANYBODY could have come out and beat Cena and the crowd would have gone insane at that time.. Im gonna try and find they Heyman article thats not too old were he talks about how Orton IS the best thing the E has right now Orton hasn't been face in a long ass time, and I guess we forget that it was just last Wrestlemania where Orton won clean over BOTH Super Cena and the Boss' Son in the main event.. He will be main eventing a second WM in a row this year, so well see what happens Yeah, but as it wasn't the main event (not to mention, it wasn't that good of a match), who remembers it? Edge's promos about BEING mr. mitb combined with Cena's loss is what made that moment a classic. How do you explain the ratings? Edge has way more heat than Orton, and maybe that's a byproduct of being on the better show, and in programs with The Undertaker and Triple H, while Orton has been in storylines with the not-ready-for-prime-time Rhodes & Dibiase and the heat-stealing McMahon clan. But it bears mentioning - why was Edge put in those programs and not Orton? why was Edge the bigger star when both were in a shot-lived tag team together? WWE has been building up Orton the past year, because they screwed him up so bad that they needed to. As a result, Edge is the still the best heel in the company and has the main events, storylines, ratings, and championships to prove it.
