QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) We'll learn a lot about 2 Sox teams this weekend. One of them are defending World Champs. Those questions have been answered.

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) WTF why not BaJ If they bring up Adkins instead of Baj, that tells me one of two things. 1. The Sox do not think Baj is the real deal. 2. They think that Adkins ability to pitch more innings will be more useful.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) I'm huge on the steroid speculation (as you've seen), and I believe that Palmeiro was on them. Aside from that, he should still be a 1st ballot HOFer based on what he's done. Damn it, the guy is gonna be a 3,000/600 player. Only two other guys have done that. He's batting over .300 in his career. He probably had help along the way, but I can't argue with the numbers. I can't even fathom him not being in on the 1st ballot with those numbers. Fathom it, cuz it won't happen.

I've seen a couple of reports that the Red Sox and Twins are working on a Mueller for Romero deal. Yet, KW says that AL teams are not willing to help the White Sox. Seems to me, the we might have the respect of the competition in the AL, if not the Eastcoast Sports Programming Network.

We are fine at 3B as long as Crede's back doesn't disable him. I think we'll be okay with the starters. We need a lights out closer like Wagner and LH RBI producer. And no, I'm not talking Omar Vizquel.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Either way I see all these post about How Maggs is an ass, for doing the exact same thing we all would do.. Look he made a mistake to go public with his felling toward the Sox..and Ozzie didn't help the situation, with his comments.. And add to the fuel the media.. and wala we have a negative focus on this team that is not needed. Wait! There were criticisms of Ordonez, Guillen and the media in that post. But NOTHING about KW. I'm speechless.

Detroit is the team to watch out for next year.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) Yeah, Gammons made a good point that Marlins GM is creative and he'll do things with this money in other trades Although he said if it isn't finalized by noon today it won't go down, so probably expect to hear something either way on this soon Well, it's 11:39 Eastern time. We'll see what happens.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:25 AM) It looks like the Red Sox have backed off Wagner according to ESPN, and have picked up interest in Shingo. Could we maybe package Shingo, and Top level prospects for Arroyo and then turn him around into Wagner? Very f***ing doubtful. They may want Shingo, but Arroyo? He's a solid pitcher and they are in a 3 team battle that might only have one team survive to see the post season.

The steroid thing is hanging over his head, justifiably or not. I do not think Raffy will be a 1st ballot guy. That's part of the reason. Add to that the fact that he hasn't ever been great. He's been consistantly very good, but not great. That should get him into the hall. Think Don Sutton here for a similar example as far as performance goes. Raffy's never even got close enough to an MVP award to sniff it.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) That would be nice, Zito and Wagner would become more available. If we could beat the damn A's, Zito might be in our rotation by now.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) The opinions on the board do not always speak the truth. Fact is, a good bullpen is needed to win a playoff series. We have one. A great bullpen is needed to win the WS, we need one more piece. I am fine with our starting rotation right now, I think that AJ Burnett wont be that much better than El Duque in the playoffs, so I am fine with staying pat. BUt I do think we need one more arm in the pen. As of right now, we are hoping that Jenks will come around and be that dominant presence, but he is a large question mark. Bring in a top five closer, would really help out our cause. And no, considering that Wagner may not even play next year, his price tag wouldnt even be close. Thank you Mr. Obvious. Just kidding. I agree with you. Wagner would go a LONG way to increasing our chances of winning the whole enchilada.
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) If you read this board long enough, everything wins playoff games: starting pitching, bullpen, slugging offense, manufacturing runs... Anyway, I think Wagner would have a similar price tag to Burnett. Wade's job is on the line and I doubt he'll give up a huge piece of his team if he can't get current MLB contributors. You forgot speed and defense.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) No. I hate it. I paid to watch the game, and that's what I want to do. The wave is bad baseball etiquitte. I also hate it when people leave mid-inning during a batter and I have to stand up and miss a pitch or two. Drives me insane! Excuse me. Can I get through, please.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) Aww.. YAS.. It's all about being a big boy. Like I just read in the cliche thread.. "if you can't stand the heat.. get out of the kitchen". Just a couple examples of folks who can't boil water. Such a sweet post! I'll try not to be so crabby in the future.

QUOTE(sec159row2 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:54 AM) agree... ignoring stef has greatly enhanced my soxtalk experience... Hell. I wouldn't miss Steff's well placed barbs for the world. Even if I am the occasional recipient.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:47 AM) Paul said almost the exact same stuff as Ozzie did, but of course everyone only focused on the negative. When Kenny Williams talked about how great he was while he was here, that was just a blurb in the article that hasn't even been mentioned. But its always different when it comes to certian players. Everyone complains about Frank being misinterpretted, but Konerko saids boo and everyone is putting the worst possible spin on it. I don't get it. You don't get it? He's only hitting .256 and he's slow ... and don't forget GIDP and his salary. As they say in "The Hokey Pokey", that's what it's all about.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:47 AM) I think KW means what he's saying, but I hope you guys are right and that he's blowing smoke. If he's serious and we make no moves, then I'm concerned. I see 2 or 3 teams that might give us problems in the post season. We'll learn a lot more about this Sox team in August. We'll learn a lot about this Sox team this weekend.
-
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:39 AM) I don't think that there's any doubt about it - we need Billy Wagner. It's easy to visualize needing one more out to advance in the playoffs, and that out is Garret Anderson, Johnny Damon, David Ortiz, etc. Plus, it gives Ozzie such flexibility using Cotts and Marte earlier in the game. KW has to go for it. I love it when you analyze.
-
mariotti is just setting up for a rip KW and the Sox column if he's not able to swing a big time deal. Nothing more, nothing less.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) I've been hearing from all over(an example is BBTN) that the Phillies won't deal him, Utley or Abreu at the deadline. They think Wagner is a huge part of the team and that he's a difference between wins and losses. Gammons also said that he expects Wagner to resign with Philly. FWIW, my opinion is that this remains to be seen. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) He consistantly plays one of the best 3Bs in all of baseball and gives our pitchers a chance to win games because of that. To me that is just as important, and with our pitching staff, maybe moreso. What's more valuable, A clutch hit with runners on 2B and 3B and two outs or a clutch defensive play with runners on 2B and 3B with two outs? One shows up in stats, the other, not really.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) As previously mentioned, if I am with some kids and they want to do the wave, sure. But otherwise no, I don't. I get irritated enough when vendors and morons that need to get up twice an inning - once to buy several beers and the other to relieve themselves of the beer - stand up during an at bat rather than during the half inning breaks. There ya go. It's all about the kids. Show the kids a good time and they become Sox fans. They'll eventually learn that the wave is ... um ... just something you only do for the kids.
