QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ May 27, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) I have a TON of respect for McCain, but I can't stand that he went around stumping for GW before the last election. GW showed McCain no respect in 2000, but because McCain wants to run in '08 he swallowed his pride and went with the party. I'm tired of the politics in politics. Which shows that McCain was man enough to put personal differences aside and do what he believed was best for the country. It's all in how you spin it.

Speaking of freak pitching injuries, and I didn't see a thread title about this though it might be hidden in another thread somewhere ... so don't crucify me if it is ..... Rick Helling, while pitching in Nashville had his left (non-pitching) arm IMPALED by the shard from a broken bat. All the I have heard about the severity of the injury is that it was not life threatening.

Flubs' players blaming the Urinal for losing ways
YASNY replied to Jabroni's topic in The Diamond Club
The Cubs certainly lead the majors in one thing ---- excuses. -
Regardless of whether or not Helton would accept a trade to the Sox, I can't see them taking on those salaries from 2007 on. That's nuts.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) I guess they cut short the quote in your article YAS.... http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti...PORTS/505270500 Thanks. Wow. It sounds like those minor league umps are placed exactly where they should be.

Oh hell. If Frank comes up and goes 0-4 in his first game, 70% of the posters will be screaming for him to be sent back down. 10% will blame KW for it. 10% will blame Ozzie. 5% will b**** because we cut Timo. The rest of us will be rolling our eyes as we read all the BS.

Right now, St. Louis is the best team in baseball.

If I'm not mistaken, and I may very well be, didn't this kid pitch well against us in Chicago?

Wow. Some of you people act like McCarthy is Big Ed Walsh reincarnated. He may be good. He may even be great. There is also a chance he may exceptionally mediocre. Then again, he may just suck. He could blow out his arm next year. Remember Jason Bere? Brandon McCarthy is just a prospect, at this point. Nothing more, nothing less.

GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS
YASNY replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ May 28, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) Yansy, you are indeed wise. Thank you. I just try and look at these players from the perspective that they are, in fact, human. The have good days and bad days. They get tired, I don't care how much money they make. I won't crucify the team for having an occasional stinker of a ballgame. -
GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS
YASNY replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I didn't have the pleasure of watching tonight's game, so I read through this entire game thread. It gives me a reasonably good idea of how things went, above and beyond the final score. Tonight was, from what I can tell, a case of the Sox going though the motions. Things appear to be somewhat bleak at this point. Those that are preaching our hitting leaves a lot to be desired are 100% correct. I don't know why these guys cannot grasp the fact that if you look to go up the middle and to the opposit field as a rule, you'll be more successful. Sure, you can pick your pitches and take your shot at turning on one, but that should be an exception. However, there are some other points I want to make here. We are 8 games into a 10 game road trip and are currently 4-4. We have our best two pitcher's going in the final 2 games of the series, so that is set up nicely. Let's look at the games we have lost on this trip. Game 3 vs. the Cubs. ..... We had a AAA starter going after taking the first 2 games of the series. Game 1 vs. LAA ..... No off days and a flight from Chicago to LA sandwiched in between the two games. Jetlag. It does have a very real effect. Game 4 vs. LAA ..... Got beat due to one bad pitch. We should have scored more runs, but this was just a good game between two good teams. Game 1 vs, Texas ..... AAA pitcher and a 5 a.m. arrival time. Lethargy ruled. The Cubs aren't great but LAA and TEX were both 1st place teams when we arrived in the respective cities. All in all this has not been a bad road trip. -
GAME THREAD 5-27-2005 SOX VS RANGERS

Go get 'em guys. Looking forward to Sunday's game as well. -
Happy Birthday Big Guy! Hurry back, you've two months worth of hitting to make up for!

This seemed like strage occurance and I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what happened. Any clue?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) I hope the implication isn't that we lost because of Ozzie or Contreras... Somebody's got to take the blame.

I don't think our needs have been clearly established yet. Sure we can use some more hitting, but who and where? I believe KW is exploring possibilities out there as we speak, and may be able to pull the trigger on a major deal ... like for Chavez. When we get closer to July 31, he'll be focused on plugging holes.

QUOTE(Texsox @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) I think if Fisk went in as an outfielder (nice move Hawk) it should have been as a White Sox, I have no problem with what cap he's wearing on a plaque in the HoF. Fisk should have gone in with the mask on top of his head, no cap. That's my image of Carlton Fisk anyway.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) This is true. I am in the minority and will be hammered but I believe the Sox did Fisk a favor by keeping him as long as they did. He was obviously no longer a major league player at the time they let him go. No team would go near him. He could no longer hit or catch effectively. He was one of my favorite players to watch but he was done. I will agree the way they dumped him was wrong but after he broke the record he shouldn't have played much and who knows how he would have reacted to that. I agree that the Sox kept Fisk on the roster to allow him to break the record. Considering that they were a contender, that was very generous of them. If Fisk would have been a vialbe major leaguer, some other team would have latched onto him after he was released. The problem I have with the whole deal was they way in which the released him. They had him travel to Cleveland before giving him the news. That was just wrong. It was like they wanted to happen on the road so they wouldn't be in town to face the backlash of Fisk's fans. Generally, Sox fans are smarter than that. I knew Fisk was done and was glad he was able to break the record. But a roster spot on a pennant contending team is avluable commodity.

QUOTE(winodj @ May 26, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Actually, yes I do bring them up a lot. I don't honestly think that they speak for anyone other than their fat wallets. They are both blowhards worthy of my derision. And I assume that they speak only for the idiots who parrot out all that they say, lock stock and barrel. I agree with with some of their points and on others I feel they go WAY to far. Especially Limbaugh.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 26, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) As a person vehemently on the left, I'd love to know where exactly you came up with the idea that Ward Churchill is somehow a hero of the left? I highly doubt that the guy qualifies as a hero to almost anyone. Here's what Ward Churchill is; he's a random, obscure professor at a University in Colorado who holds some pretty damn extreme views, and who goes around publically expressing them. Because his views are so far out of the mainstream, the folks on the right wing (read: Bill O'Reilly) grab him as an example of those "crazy liberal universities" that they can use to brow-beat anyone who disagrees with them. CJR did a great piece the other day on how O'Reilly was using Ward Churchill as a whipping boy for his political opposition at the same time as he was complaining about the NYT using the widespread abuse of prisoners by the U.S. in the same manner. Here's the reality about Ward Churchill and the left; we really don't give a darn. The guy's a nutcase, he's certainly no spokesman for the left. The left does tend to care about academic freedom, and hence we wouldn't be thrilled if he lost his job simply because of some remarks he made (his reported lying about his heritage in his job application is a different story), but overall, no one really cares about what some crazy professor in Colorado thinks except for the folks trying to use his craziness to score political points against the other side. Damn. First response and I get someone wanting to hand my ass to me on a platter. Churchill is an example .... an extreme one to be sure ... of the radically left slant of the "advanced" educational system in this country. The fact that he was employeed by an institution of "higher learning" and invited to speak at other "institutions of higher learning" after his extremist rants tends to reinforce the fact that some people in the world of academia do not consider him so very extreme. Hence, my point, that he is a "hero" to some. You do not agree that he is worthy of the label "hero". Good for you!

The Count? When did we get John Montefusco?
