  1. If two out of Duke, Kentucky, Arizona and Louisville win their conference tourneys, I doubt WF gets that number 1 seed. That's not even considering the Big 12.
  2. They are fighting the subpeonas because they don't want their dirty laundry aired publically. They are hoping the whole mess just goes away. It ain't happenin' though.
  3. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Look the logic is based on two things. 1) Crede's no good. He's had his shot and has not delivered. A third basemen on a contending team is traditionally a solid hitter, if not a feared power hitter. Do you guys really think Crede is somehow going to turn into Troy Glaus or Adrian Beltre? I don't happen to think so. 2) Osuna at short and Uribe at third fits the Ozzie ball mode. The combination of these two on the left side of the infield is the best we have at this time based on what I've seen. Uribe is a much better hitter than Crede, and can field just as well if not better. Osuna has good speed, is having an impressive spring at the plate and at short and is a much better #9 hitter than Crede would be. Sorry. Not to be an ass here, but I still find your logic flawed. Osuna's an age 30 journeyman minor leaguer. That slam dunks it right there imho. Forget what Crede has or hasn't done, he better now than Ozuna ever will be.
  4. Jugger, after all that "stuff" in you huge post, let me say this. I never said Frank didn't deserve to be a 1st ballot HOF'er. I just don't think he will be. This stuff is done by votes and there are politics involved.
  5. I cannot think of any logical reason to non-tender Crede. That won't happen unless Crede disables himself permanently, gets busted for dealing cocaine or kicks the s*** out of Ozzie.
  6. Wow. A 30 year old career minor league journeyman has a good week in hitter friendly Arizona and we are all set to replace a 2 time minor league MVP with him. I can see the logic in that. :headshake
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 09:24 AM) If we were to pick House up off of waivers, would we have to put him on the 40 man roster? Couldn't he be on the 60 day DL without taking a 40 roster spot?
  8. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) There was a quote in the USA Today about the Sox renting out the park for weddings, and in it, Brooks was talking about one of the options, which is Nancy playing the organ. Brooks said that the cost of Nancy for the wedding hadn't been determined yet, because "Nancy's priceless." So he seems pretty much a fan, or at least, sees her role as an asset. He's a smart guy! Damn right he's smart. The thing that makes him so smart is that he actually listens to Sox fans. What a concept! I believe LCR was right about him making that comment about Nancy last year, and I also believe some Sox fans have straightened out his thinking in that regard.
  9. I don't know when BMac will settle in on the big club, but when he does, he'll stay for a while. They won't send him down because he'll just be pitching too damn well.
  10. I really believe Frank will have a hard time getting in, and I seriously doubt he'll be a 1st ballot entry for the following reasons: 1. He plays in Chicago, not NY or Boston. If you don't think that makes a difference, compare Billy Pierce to Whitey Ford sometime. 2. He doesn't suck up to the sportswriters. 3. The steroid thing will barely be mentioned, if it's not totally disregarded at all. Remember, we are talking about 5 years after he retires and this is all just happening now. 4. No World Series yet and not much post season success. 5. Lack of respect he's received at All Star time. I believe it's a precursor of things to come. 6. The DH thing will have an impact.
  11. QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) They're not, I never see them at the meetings. Hello. I'm YASNY and I'm an elitist.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) So where is 16-20 Jas??? After every spring training game, he has to shuffle and rewrite, based on that days box score.
  13. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) Apparently a handful of Congressmen accepted trips to Korea, on behalf of a foreign agent. Three of them Dems, including Pelosi. This is, apparently, a violation of House Ethics rules. All of those who took the trips are pleading ignorance at the time that they accepted the trip. Here's the story. So DeLay seems to be caught in a lie here, everyone is admitting to taking the trips - out of ignorance - but DeLay's camp is saying that they got approval beforehand, even though they apparently didn't. This would be the House Majority Leader's fourth ethics violation within a twelve month time span. With Ethics violations, how many strikes until you're out - of the leadership at least? Apparently, there is no limit. Everyone else is using the Barry Bonds defense.
  14. I changed the title of this thread to include a warning. I'd hate for someone to get fired over this.
  15. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) I just don't think Crede is ever going to be a big time player. He's just another in a long line of guys who starred in AAA, and are not good enough in The Show. Whatever. You can "think" what you want. I'm more interested in seeing what the man can or cannot actually do.
  16. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 12:24 PM) The way things are going, I say Osuna at SS, Uribe at 3rd, and Crede can be a beer vendor. The dude is just now facing live pitching with his new hitting mechanics. Give him a few weeks before you bury the guy. :headshake
  17. LMAO .... all I can say is ...
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Jackson failed to show up for court today.. supposedly he's at the hospital again.. and supposedly the judge issued a warrant for his arrest if he doesn't show up to court within an hour. What a moron.. They'll revoke his bail.
  19. QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) It's certainly make or break time for Joe - I'm rooting for him. Oh, and YASNY - A great choice of thread name, although I feel it's only fair to warn you that you'll soon be hearing from my lawyer, due to the fact that you have used "Crede pops up" without my permission - I've held copyright on that for quite a while now. Pat Riley has "three-peat", I have "Crede pops up" In fact, everytime Hawk or DJ used that phrase last season, I got 25 cents from the broadcasters. Unfortunately (for Crede and the Sox) at the end of the season they had to write me a check for 2.6 million dollars.. Crede pops up is three words. Your handle is one word. You have no claim whatsoever ... or ... what so ever.
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) I strongly disagree. Borchard in my opinion will be a sink or swim player. Meaning he will either be an all-star or a flop. There will be no middle road with him. He is simply too talented a player for that option to exist. The only way he could become a middle road player is if an injury reduces some of his talent. Sweeney & Anderson may be the future of the SOX OF but they are not Borchard. What I hope most Sox fans will understand is that Joe is a power threat from both sides of the plate. That makes him the rarest of players in the MLs. Joe's potential remains MVP type caliber. He's been hampered by injuries that slowed his growth which was already behind in college. Do you remember when the Sox traded Sosa? Sosa was a below avg hitter with a lot of K's before he was dealt. He had a ton of potential. It took him about 5 yrs of ML service before he clicked and went from being a below 250 hitter to a 300 hitter. The last thing the Sox need is to make a mistake like that with Borchard. He's out of options next year. That gives the Sox one more year in hopes he realizes that potential. Having invested 5M in him already they should let it ride one more year. Try to imagine this scenario: Borchy hits 275, 100+RBI, 30+HR at Charlotte. As a late season call-up he puts up similar #'s with the Chi-Sox. What's his trade value worth then? I hope Sox fans will realize that all Borchy needs is to show more than glimmer of hope to other GM's that he can be the real deal & his stock will soar quickly. No GM in the league looks at him like they do other players. In the case of Joe Borchard, we think along the same lines.
  21. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:51 AM) I never said wearing your hat sideways meant you were a gangster...I said I was sick of the thug/gangster type mentality, which is what its about. Look at FlippedOutPunk's avatar and signature...what's that about? I don't find it gangster or cool or whatever, I find it offensive. Those are pictures of a guy who is going to kill someone...right? Certainly appears that way. Why is that cool? As for my stereotypes are correct comment....I should have said that a lot of them have some truth to them. Not all. For example, I'm bohemian, and a common stereotype would be that I am cheap, or thrifty. And I am. Does that mean all bohemians are ? No...but I know a lot of them, and I would say most of them fit this description. I don't know why you think my post was aimed at you.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:16 AM) That's what I'm worried about with Crede. The Sox need to hit well early, otherwise there'll be big pressure to make a move at the deadline, to acquire a guy like Joe Randa to replace him as a stopgap until Fields is ready. Whether Crede can do that or not, I don't know. I hear that. Let's hope he can.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:13 AM) This was to be expected, it wasn't like he was magically going to come out with his new swing and hit over .300 with lots of power. I'd expect him to iron out the kinks in the first few months of the season, and come on strong later on, as he is a 2nd half hitter. We can't afford to wait for him to hit in the second half. Those games in April and May count as well.
