  1. Arizona is posturing. When it gets closer to the trade deadline, they'll lower their demands. Didn't I hear tonight that they have lost 14 in a row? They might as well get something for him. Holding on to him makes no sense whatsoever.
  2. Excuse me Heather, but I believe we'd have a one game playoff if we finished tied with them.
  3. I was at that game against the Tigers last year. It was in like the 12th inning and Detroit had won the first two games of the series. One of the losses was one of those 1-0 losses Loaiza got stuck with. BTW, Carlos hit a granny in that game too.
  4. I met Ed Herrmann and Rick Dempsey when they were Yankees. Dempsey was a rookie and Herrmann was a grizzled veteran by that time. NY was playing in Milwaukee and had an off day. I was 17 and met them at a bar in Worth, IL. The hell of it was, Catfish Hunter was supposed to be with them, but bailed out at the last minute. Needless to say, I was highly disappointed.
  5. A hitter cannot go up there "looking for a change up". He has to be sitting dead red and adjust down. Geez .... Hawk's been preaching that for years. Don't you guys listen?
  6. Two years ago Carlos was a "lawn ornament". He's now a solid defensive outfielder. It's great that he has made such strides defensively. Carlos Lee is the key bat in the lineup for us now, with Frank and Maggs out. He's on one helluva roll right now, and he really needs to keep on thumping and become the feared hitter he can be.
  7. Welcome to Soxtalk .... and that was one HELLUVA POST. The Sox have to take a "No excuses allowed" approach. They need to band together as a team, overcome adversity and go out and win this thing. Kenny Williams, I believe, will do something to send a message to the team that the front office is not giving up and still expects to win. The consensus around here a month ago was that we needed an high OBP guy added to the lineup. Done! Aaron Rowand has filled that void. We've added a number 1 quality pitcher in Garcia and a solid veteran hitter in Everett. Excuses and curses are for Cub fans.
  8. Olerud? No thank you. EDIT: An afterthought, here. I'd rather have Ventura than Olerud. At least Robin can be used at two positions.
  9. I'd call that wishful thinking, though I have to admit I am/was guilty of that also. His career numbers indicate that you could expect a high 4 something ERA, at least.
  10. We don't need Roberto Alomar ... at all.
  11. I'm just guessing here, but I doubt that the no-trade clause would be much of a factor. A guy has to get tired of losing every year.
  12. Agreeing wih Beck72. We don't have a need for a DH at this point.
  13. Robin would be a good guy to have on the bench, but he is not a difference maker reference the stretch. It wouldn't hurt to get him, but there's no point to it.
  14. As it currently stands, intradivisional rivals do not meet in the first round.
  15. Kendall would be a good fit with the Sox, for sure. They might even get Pittsburg to give up Kendall and Benson without stripping our farm system too much because of the bucks involved. This would be a great opportunity for Reinsdorf to step and show that he will put his money where his mouth is. Having said all that, I still think Steve Finley is the perfect player for the Sox needs. He would still be my number one choice of available hitters.
  16. If Hideki Matsui was eligible to win the award, then Shingo Takatsu should be as well. If they want to change the rules, do it in the offseason, effective next year.
  17. Did anyone really expect Loaiza to match last year? This is about what I expected from him. It's like with Konerko, I never expected him to have another horrid season like last year. Konerko's long term performance suggested that he'd rebound this year. Loaiza's long term performance suggested he had a "career" year.
  18. They go away when we stomp their asses a few times.
  19. Cub fans? Consider the source. JR has always shown a loyalty to his GM's, to a certain extent. He didn't fire Schuler and gave Krause a mile of rope to hang himself with before he "resigned for health reasons". KW will be around for quite some time.
  20. Benson would be a great addition to the Sox. Schoney and Loaiza are real question marks in my mind.
  21. Buehrle has owned the Twins. He needs to just keep doing what he does.
  22. With both of our starting middle infielders being lefthanded hitters, I see no need for the Sox to reacquire Roberto Alomar.
  23. There were a few Cub fans there. Several Sox fans were there, and we were quite vocal too.
  24. Miles vs. Uribe? .... What's the point? Save it for a cold January night. :headshake
