  1. Well let's see ... You could show Dusty arguing with the ump with several of these #$%$#% comin out of his mouth ... in front of a couple of youngsters in the stands. vs. Ozzie talking to the ump and making the ump laugh and smile. You could show the bleacher bums filling up the outfield with trash vs. a pristine OF at the Cell. And Sosa doing his hop after homering in a 15-1 shellacking vs. Frank putting his head down and trotting after a walk off job.
  2. I'm not sure I understand what they are trying to say here. Are they saying we are intentionally winning by only one run? Now, if our opponents find losing to us "a little tiring" then I say life's a b****.
  3. As of right now, the "recovery" of Billy Koch is still a work in progress and it can go either way.
  4. Kelly's value is the fact that IS an effective LH reliever. Teams are always looking looking for lefty help in the bullpen. He should bring more than a journeyman utility player, ala Bellhorn. If the Garcia rumors are true, he may be part of the package that goes to Seatlle.
  5. From what I understand, the on deck circles are still going to be used for the ads. Oh well, at least it's not between the white lines.
  6. Garcia would certainly be a good pick up for us. Though I don't see us acquiring him without moving some salary out in the deal.
  7. I was listening to the score at about 11:40 tonight and whoever the "on air personality" was talked about Wrigleyville after mentioning this shooting. He said that the area is "crazy this year". People are hanging around for hours after the game and the neighborhood is saturated with people just hanging around during the game. Also, he said that if it's this crazy in April and May, what will it be like in September? I am in no way making light of this shooting incident, but it may have an effect of the perception the Wrigleyville is considerably safer than the Cell area.
  8. I had to give up reading this thread somewhere in the 7th page. I just couldn't take it anymore or my brain would be turned to jelly. Two thoughts before I depart.... 1. If Thomas Jefferson were to march into the Capitol building and address congress and the rest of the federal goverment, he'd rip them a new ass for the way they have turned and twisted the constitution and the standards on which this nation was founded. At least, he'd start doing that. He'd probably be shot before he got very far. 2. What is wrong with allowing students 3 to 5 minutes of "silent reflection" before they start their day's education. It would give them a chance to mentally prepare themselves for the day ahead. It would not be a case where someone "led" the group in prayer. Each child could use that time in whatever way they felt best to prepare themselves, whether that be a silent prayer or a moment of meditation or whatever. To me, it would give them a short period of time to get past the social interaction that students normally have upon gathering before school and allow them to "focus" upon the upcoming day.
  9. I just read this thread and had to laugh at you guys during the 9th inning. Of course, I already knew the final score.
  10. Write your own disclaimer and inject some humor into it.
  11. Some of you guys take this stuff so personally. The Sox have been favorites for 3 years running and haven't won anything. They were jumping on our bandwagon last year and then we tanked. I'd be very cautious about predicting success for the Sox this year if I were doing their jobs. Our record could easily be 10-17, rather than 17-10, with the way we've been playing.
  12. Foulke never could seem to nail down the BIG games when he was with us. I don't expect that to change.
  13. I'd love to play poker with you. Some of your "aces" rank right up there with the 9 of spades.
  14. It already happened in the Yankees vs. DRays series in Japan. These stupid f***ing owners are going to the "magic" right out ofd the game, and when they do .... down the tubes goes the whole enchilada.
  15. First of all, it's NOT Billy Beane's book. He's not the author. Second, he's not the GM version of the second coming. Some people have built him up so much because of that damn book and the success he's had getting the A's to the playoffs. But, I still say Billy Beane got very f***ing lucky that Mulder, Zito and Hudson all came up at the same time, all stayed healthy and all maximized their potential. That kinda s*** just doesn't happen. He's built his successful reputation on the arms of those three pitchers.
  16. To me, an ace and a stopper are one and the same. The type of pitcher you can count on to go out there and give you a win when you really need it. Be good, dude, you're just being stubborn. No way could you consider Mike Sirotka an "ace" in 2000, but he was our number one starter. Brando's definition of an ace works for me.
  17. I agree. We have a lot more to lose by dealing him than we do by keeping him, at this point.
  18. As I said earlier in this thread, Billy "Goat" Koch doesn't seem to be able to get things kicked into gear or focus until his butt is in the fire. Apparently, he's always been that way to some extent.
  19. If we don't sign Maggs, we better start talking about RF'ers of the future.
  20. I find it ironic, but very troubling, that this incident has created more of an outcry than the burning, hanging and mutiliation of those 4 American bodies about a month ago.
  21. Jason carried this site, back in the day.
  22. Wait. Didn't Warmer injure his hand last year and that affected his grip on the football? I seem to remember him throwing some sick looking passes when he filled in for Bulger. If the dude can't grip the football, we sure don't need him. I'd rather take a flyer on Couch.
  23. With Harris, Uribe and Valentin all pushing each other for playing time, they may just push each other into having very good years. Sure, they are going to go through mini-slumps and falter from time to time, but ovrall solid seasons from all 3 of these guys is not outside the realm of possibilities. And I wholehearted agree with witesoxfan's statement that trading Jose Valentin would be a HUGE mistake. This guy just doesn't get anywhere remotely close to the credit he deserves. The dude is just a gamer.
