  1. The only true way to learn history is follow current events in your lifetime. All you can do in regards to events before that is study the past from different viewpoints and decide for yourself what actually happened. You'll never get a fair and balanced opinion on anything from anybody anymore, thus it's harder than ever to be educated, despite the fact it's easier than ever with modern technology to be intelligent. (I hope that made sense to SOMEBODY besides me).
  2. Last time a starter lasted only that long on opening day for us was in 1917 I read somewhere. That's a good thing, sort of.
  3. I thought Masset looked a bit nervous, but his stuff wasn't bad. The guy I didn't like what I saw from out of the pen was Double A, he worked a magic act to not get blown up.
  4. Happy Birthday!! I guarantee that the Sox won't ruin it with a loss
  5. Josh Smith might be the 2nd best athlete in the NBA, but man did #1 on that list make him his personal highlight reel b**** Sunday.
  6. Actually, I was right. Butler's 2 signees for 2007 from Indiana are ranked higher on rivals (and one is a 4 star) than Iowa's 2 signees from Indiana. Go figure.
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Agreed, but he has still been mentioned as the best pure point guard in the country right now. But you are right about Cook, many dont know that background as well, good info, but we'll see. Cook could REALLY use another year. Im actually most pumped about seeing Hunter again. He has only played bball for 3 years, and has nowhere to go but up. Cook needs 2 more years I think, haha. I think he's from a poorer background and really needs the money (or so I heard), so if that's true and he can be a last 1st pick (which is possible with his size and shot), I can't really hate. Hunter and Koufos is a mighty duo inside even if Oden leaves, and the tall white kid you got coming in at the 2 whose name is escaping me is a great shooter as well. Plus, Lauderdale and Turner are great athletes than can help out right away, Lighty will be better, and Butler is back. You guys, even if you lose Cook, Oden, and Conley (along with Lewis, Terwilliger, and Harris obviously) are still the favorites in the league next year. Plus, as good as the 2007 class is, your 2008 class might be as good or better than the 2006 one.
  8. Looks like another year of my annual mid round steal, Aaron Harang, producing big time for me. One day, people will realize how good he is. Just amazing he became the first pitcher to ever lead his league in wins and k's last year and not win the Cy Young. And not only did he not win the Cy, he didn't get a SINGLE VOTE AT ALL. Talk about underrated. Also, King Felix will be a beast until he inevitably goes Liriano on his elbow later this year. And if Ben Sheets stays healthy all year, the Brewers are a LOCK in the NL Central. I don't think that's possible, but they could win that division even if he gets hurt. I really like them.
  9. This hire kills Creighton, and really doesn't do much for Arkansas IMO, he's not a step up from Heath at all. This could hurt 2 programs.
  10. I question how he'll recruit there, but he's a great game coach.
  11. He had a 2 player class at Butler coming in that would have been better than just about any classes Alford had. Hopefully for Hawk fans those 2 follow him to the IC. I think it's a really good hire actually.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) True, it may not be. But dont underestimate those two guys desire to win a title together in college. The best thing for Mike to do is continue to be the best point guard in the country next year and assure yourself a VERY high pick. Problem is, the only reason they went there is Cook, and if he's gone, they are gone. And Cook is a bit nuts in terms of how good he thinks he is, so he's leaving. As for Conley, he could come back and improve, and he'd still be behind Rose, Gordon, Crittenton (if he stays), and maybe even Bayless and Budinger from Arizona if they play well next year in terms of guards. The guard class is just exponetially better next year, to stay would be a monumentally bad move for his draft status.
  13. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) i just cant see Conley going, but if it happens it happens. We will reload. He's not physically ready, but his stock will never get higher after a tourney like that, and the guard crop this year sucks, so he's a late lotto pick. This is all moot though, because I think Cook is going to be dumb and go pro, and thus Oden and Conley will leave anyways.
  14. Brewer is going to be, by far, the best NBA player from this team IMO. Horford will be pretty good, not great. I don't think Green or Humphrey have any shot of doing much in the NBA (unless Humphrey ends up in a Steve Kerr esque roll, and Green just reminds me of Roberson, their last PG) and Noah is going nowhere in the league. They are a great COLLEGE team though.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) Am I the only one that wants to see them all come back (save the seniors) and do it again? Yes. Noah is the biggest douche I've ever seen in college hoops, so he alone makes me hate them. Green might come back, but the rest of them are gone though.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) If Oden stays and Koufos is as advertised, they will be VERY tough to beat. Oden and Conley are gone, sir. I'd love to see them stay, but it just won't happen. Koufos is a stud though, and when the least touted player in your class is a high 4 star wing from Illinois who is the #2 player in said state, it's a good class.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) When the Cell gun and the Comcast gun have Jose clocked in the high 80's and low 90's, his stuff is not fine. He didn't get a single fastball past a hitter today, that's a pretty clear indication of s*** stuff to me. I didn't see him throw a single fastball that wasn't either a foot out of the zone or right down the middle. Jose's whole game is based on arm angles and location, and both of them were off today, which is why the lower back idea came into my mind. If you watched Jose last year, you'd know his fastball altered between the high 80's and low 90's almost all year (I do, I charted a few of his games even early in the year, during the streak). He simply had no location of anything, which means he either thought he was on the Yankees again, had one epic bad day, or isn't healthy.
  18. Ohio State is a lock to win it all within the next 4 to 6 years anyways with the people Matta brings in. As for Florida, the only 2 teams that could have beat them in this tournament were Ohio State on a 50/50 night shooting 3's (which they couldn't do tonight) or North Carolina. However, North Carolina was to this year what UConn was to last (most talented team in the land, but didn't care about defense or general focus) and thus collapsed against the Hoyas.
  19. The only difference in this game was the 3 point shooting, as well as Florida played. If Ohio State can hit 40 percent of their threes for the first 38 minutes, this game is even and could have gone either way. You can't beat anybody, let alone Florida, if you start 2 for 18 from beyond the arc though.
  20. Well, that sucked, gotta get 'em next game. I am concerned that Count's lower back is still an issue though, based on my uneducated opinion of what his motion looked like though.
  21. His stuff was fine but his release was a little off, causing the control issues IMO. That is a sign the lower back is still a problem (also IMO), which is a big problem. I'm not too worried overall since he sabotaged the game by himself, nobody else looked awful or anything (not even Masset, just was a bit nervous).
  22. Ohio State picked the wrong game to have their worst shooting night from the perimeter all year. I hope Donovan enjoys UK and all those great players on Florida enjoy the NBA, repeating is pretty impressive.
  23. QUOTE(CryptviLL @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) Hes on the DL for the Phillies Which is why the thread will start, he's still a fiery vet that we need. Anyways, I guarantee a win today.
  24. A matchup between 2 teams that simply do not know how to lose big games. If this game isn't a classic, i'd be shocked.
  25. Wow, the Cubs could lose 30-0 today and Cubs fans will still be happy due to this news, and frankly I can't blame them. This is a sad day for us Cub haters, because I can't speak for us of us but I thought the Tribune was doing a wonderful job.
