QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) Doyel is a complete idiot. How the hell does he even have a job? If your out there and crazy with opinions, the media will pay you as long as you'd like, no matter how dumb you are. SEE: Coulter, Ann Also, things are going really well for bubble teams so far. Hopefully it keeps up. -
Three Questions about your 2007 White Sox
whitesoxfan101 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Most Improved: Javy. I know he's a bit of a mental midget, but his splits are too good for statistics not to take over and for him to not really improve. Masset will be a big surprise guy IMO. Biggest Drop-Off: Joe Crede. Same as Javy, only in complete reverse. X-Factor: Darin Erstad. I can't explain this since I always have thought he was overrated, but for some reason I have a good feeling he'll be a nice solution to one of our OF problems. He seems healthy and can still field, run, and hit pretty well. Toby Hall is a CLOSE 2nd though with how important he'll be against lefties. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) 1. Most Improved - Mark Buehrle - He will be back to being a front line ace and he will sign an extension to stay in Chicago. You very well be right about Buehrle, but him being really good and him signing an extension are mutually exclusive IMO unless we get the deal done before opening day. And Buehrle was NEVER an ace -
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) My feeling is the party shouldnt get to nominate anyone. The President should. I think most anybody would agree with that, but that's not how it works nowadays. The parties themselves run everything, which IMO is the biggest problem in politics today in this country, by far.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 12:52 PM) He "lied" to a grand jury. It's called perjury, and he got convicted of it... something the illustrious Bill Clinton got away with. I'm sure, since this is Bush's administration or anything having to do with Bush (85 times removed), it's different. I understand the charges, but I still question the guilt. And of course Clinton got away with it, he gets away with EVERYTHING, a prime example of that is the love he gets in the black community despite what his record in the state of Arkansas says in regards to how he feels about african americans (not good). My biggest issue with the Libby thing is if you hear what Fitzgerald and the jurors even said, they sounded more convinced and more like they were convicting Cheney than Libby. It's just a strange case since although I don't doubt Libby perjured himself, I don't even know if Libby, Fitzgerald, or the jurors have any idea if he is guilty with how confusing the case is. His conviction to me seems more like a statement against the administration than anything, and although I don't have any problem with those, it shouldn't send somebody to jail.

I still don't understand what Scooter did wrong to be honest. His perceived wrongdoing, I agree, is nothing more than left wing politcal agenda. However, I think our "fine" VP did a lot of things wrong, but I guess it was thought the evidence wasn't there to convict him, but then again I don't think the evidence was there to convict Libby when you consider 2 of THE main witnesses were Judith Miller and Tim Russert, who I wouldn't trust to watch a burnt down newsstand while I went to get lunch.

Levine reports Sox and Buehrle to talk
whitesoxfan101 replied to Harry Chappas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Buehrle would sign for 4/56, you have to do it. If you don't want to give out 5 and 6 year deals and such, ok....but i'd cave in the one more year if I had to. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) Garland should be a decent trade candidate. He is young, has wins under his belt, and has been shopped before. *Sighs* when will people stop calling for our most consistent pitcher to get traded? -
QUOTE(Wedge @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 09:54 AM) When was the last time an underperforming player had his contract ripped up for a lesser one? Huh? I was talking about Briggs, are you saying he underperformed? QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 09:45 AM) ^^^^^^^ Exactly. Last time I checked, Briggs was a player...represented by the NFLPA. Upshaw signed it. Deal with it. I can't believe a 1000% raise is considered disrespect. Even if the Bears franchise him again next year, it's going to be almost $9mil GUARANTEED!!! And THEN he goes on the open market. I don't know, I say...let him stew. Or maybe get the rest of the team, that's not disgruntled to kidnap him and stick him in one of the blocking dummies and get CLOBBERED by his team. Shoot, if he would have just ASKED Angelo and Phillips to get him out instead of b***hing to the press, maybe he woulda been gone by now? Just for the record, with the new rule, you can only be franchised twice, and if you are franchised the 2nd time, it goes from top 5 pay average at your position to top 5 among ALL PLAYERS, so I doubt they'd do it again. Briggs will try to T.O. this and be a little b**** until he forces a trade, but my guess is he holds out well into August (maybe through all the preseason games), but suits up for the season. 7.2 is 7.2, and if he has another really good season (which he will if healthy), he'll get his paper.

You could easily deny any of Bush's cronies (Condi included) the VP spot since they are almost all like Bush (aka have done a bad job).
-
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) I don't know about the pardon, it could potentially piss a lot of people off against the Republicans, and the '08 political season has started already, it seems. There would be a huge uproar if he was pardoned. I'm not sure how that will stop Bush. He has destroyed the republican party in the eyes of all non straight ticket republicans, so he doesn't care. Also, the Libby thing was a witch hunt to cover up the fact they didn't have the stones to go after the real criminal, VP Dick.
-
QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 08:20 AM) Damning to who? That the Bears make players honor their contracts? I love how it tries to make the Bears as the bad guys for making players stick to the deals THEY MADE. Your right in principle, but simply put, any pro team that won't rip up cheap, older contracts will be known as cheap, regardless of if it's right or wrong. Also, I'm not sure how that applies to Briggs. He signed a 4 year contract, played it out, and now he's getting screwed. Thing is, that's not the Bears fault, but rather the fault of NFL ass kisser Gene Upshaw and his "players assocation" who let the franchise tag quagmire exist.

Zook to McPhearson, Ellis: See ya

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) I just dont agree. I think that there is an inherent leniency with drinking, driving, and college students/athletes. I went to college, things were how they were and everyone was doing the same things in terms of alcohol. Now that does not make it right of course, but who am I to throw stones. Comparitively I dont believe that anyone can really write off theft as "youthful" stupidity, especially since these guys are older than 18. For comparison's sake, Im sure you can go back and find tons of DUI's and student athletes where they only received slaps on the wrists, etc. But most theft cases like Peter Warrick/Coles, end up in some one being kicked off the team. There is just a line. And this is not just my opinion, well mainly because I know lawyers and judges and well most of them went to college too, so they understand the alcohol culture. But they are not so understanding of blatant criminal activity. Your obviously right legally, but at the same time, if we are going to do things legally, nobody should ever be kicked off any team until they are a convicted felon. That is the PATHETIC approach that Bruce takes, I'm glad it's not the pathetic approach Ron Zook takes. -
With comments like those, Maher would make a great Illinois rep in the U.S. senate.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) The Presidential Pardon has historically been one of the most abused privlidges of the oval office. I would really hope that Libby is not pardoned. He will be I think, however I can't blame President Bush. Every President I can think of has abused the pardon privilege and given some bad people pardons. I agree, I hate that damn thing, it's so abused. I know in this case it's coincidence, but the timing of this and Cheney's issues is interesting too.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Bush nominates a replacement. Must get majority vote from both houses. That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title. I'm sure it'll be easy for Bush to get one of his cronies through both houses right now.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) There is a difference between murder and manslaughter and that is intent. I totally agree with SB here. All you people are doing is looking at the outcome and not the whole incident. Remember, Jamar had a concussion. He wasn't thinking straight. Yeah, he drove back to the apartment complex...do you know how long it took for him to get there? Do you know if he got lost? No. Now, IF Ellis and McPhearson did steal the laptopS and walletS, then that shows intent. Intent to break into peoples houses and take their stuff. They were of sound mind. Actually I do know and no he didn't get lost, he was back at the apartment within 10 or 15 minutes, pretty fast in a destroyed car. And you know what? Anytime your stupid enough to get into a car and drive it plastered drunk, you have the intent to risk the life of yourself and others, both anybody in your car and anybody that drives by you. I mean, driving drunk is like taking a gun and shooting it like spinning in circles, anybody could get hurt, nobody might get hurt, but the intent is potential disaster. How is THAT not intent? And Jamar was of sound mind when he took that wheel, he had no concussion at that point, although I think all crimes that occur while concussed should be dropped. It's a whole new legal system!! And McPhearson and Ellis both have a lot of circumstantial evidence for multiple felonies against them, and plead not guilty, just like Jamar. One coach kicks them off the team, the other ignores it, lets them come back for senior night, and gets on Michigan for playing some guy that has nothing to do with this. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) A dumbass mistake that could have killed someone, and nearly did! Then you throw in all the circumstantial evidence, and Jamar should have been toast already. They are very comparable. You could even argue a DUI is worse considering that stealing laptops and wallets didn't (and don't) come close to killing anyone. You are severely 'underrating' a DUI. Try telling someone who has lost a close one to a DUI that it's just a 'dumbass mistake' and not comparable to stealing a possession. A-freaking-men. And plus, like with Jamar, both plead not guilty and want a jury trial. Squeaky voice figures that means you should bring back said felon for senior night, and Zook says screw you, you have no respect for the school or athletic department, get the hell outta here. What a refreshing difference a coach makes. Just on this alone, I hope Zook lasts longer than Weber. One is a great recruiter who doesn't take crap from his players, another brings in mid level MVC recruiting classes and supports felons, drunks, and campus robbers. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) http://www.herald-review.com/blogs/marktupper/?p=349 Some pretty pathetic statements by Weber here. He has a lot of nerve discussing other programs being lenient. Every time this goof opens his mouth, he embarrasses the alumni of the school. HA!! What's next, he gonna talk about how the fall off of other programs not named Illinois is due to poor recruiting? What a douche. -
I still contest that the severe groin injury that a-hole Barrett suffered was simply karma at work, good riddance. That article is a simple panicked response to today, a day in which Mark Prior threw a fastball clocked at....wait for it.....82 miles an hour.

So today alone, I heard clips of BOTH Illinois senators making fools of themselves. Dick (what a fitting first name) Durbin compares our troops to the Nazi's, and the great Barack Obama talks in Selma, Alabama on the 42nd anniversary of the march, saying that without that march it wouldn't have been possible for his parents to have married or thus, him to exist. Too bad a novice like me even knows Selma took place in 1965 and Obama was born in 1961. I'm embarassed to be from this state when I hear those 2 extremist fools yap. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 01:02 PM) So how do you fight someone using slurs against you in your campaign? You use to to raise some "Coulter Cash"! I love how this is an outrage, but not big enough to stop Edwards from whoring it out to raise a quick $100K. That ambulance chaser would sell his wife for 10 dollars if he could. Biggest money whore in politics, bar none.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) You know, I have absolutely no problem if you think CU is the better team, they are a very good team. But, you are the one who said SIU got screwed by the officials, you are the one who said that game showed just how good SIU is because the officials were trying to give Creighton the game and they still won, so don't say that game was total luck, because you are completely switching what your first reaction was to that game(I'm talking about the game in Carbondale). At times, you are the Jay Mariotti of soxtalk, you change your opinion for ridiculous reasons. If the refs had been fair in that game, and SIU shoots...oh, 60 percent from the field in the 2nd half (which is still very hard to do), Creighton still pulls away IMO. -
Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Final line.. 20pts 19reb (8off 11def) 1 stl 2 blks (I thought he had 3 but they didnt count it) 4 straight double doubles. The change of scenery has really helped him. He's got a real point guard and isn't dogging it like he did last year (I don't even think Hammerhead could make a legit argument to the contrary there), while getting more minutes. Simple equation. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) Briggs has probably seen what Adalius Thomas got, and is upset he can't get that type of long - term deal from someone, because the Bears won't let him. Well as much as I love Briggs, he can't hold the jock strap of Adalius Thomas, so if he wants that kind of money, I hope he enjoys that pipedream. But your right that he wants the long term deal (singing bonus), that's why he's pissed. What if he goes out and destroys his ACL and never returns to form a la Colvin? I can see his point of view here. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) The funny thing is, in theory, that longevity means nothing at all. Its basically a bunch of one year deals in the NFL. Yeah but Briggs would get probably 20 milllion in guaranteed paper on the open market, plus at least 18 milllon more in salary since I doubt he gets cut after less than 3 years. That is what he is thinking here.
-
When Briggs turned down that very fair offer of 5 years at over 6 million a year a while back, he should have known this was the risk he was taking. However with that said, all those Bears fans who think Briggs can just be replaced by a Leon Joe or Jamar Williams are sadly mistaken. There is a reason this team was bad in-between Holdman and Colvin leaving and Briggs emerging, and it's not just the QB. And this whole thing is pretty simple, it's about signing bonus. The 7.5 million number means nothing, just like the 80 million dollar number for Nate Clements means nothing. The only number in football that matters is singing bonus (aka guaranteed money), and Briggs isn't getting any here, hence the holdout.

whitesoxfan101 replied to Rowand44's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I know they won the league and 2 out of 3 head to head, but having seen all 3 of those games, I think Creighton is better than SIU. The win at Carbondale was total luck (15 for 17 in the second half?? please) and the game in Omaha was decided by 1 point. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if both of them make the Sweet 16. -
The 2007 Big Ten Tourney
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Illinois not getting a bye is a HUGE blessing in disguise IMO, they'll beat Penn State and get in I think. Plus, they can beat Indiana in a game played in Chicago for sure I think, but then again I haven't thought much of Indiana all year so I'm biased, but I'd rather see them than Wisky, Ohio State, MSU, or even Purdue. And Jimbo, since when?? What the hell are you talking about, Illinois has one of the most popular basketball programs in the nation, regardless of how you feel about them.
