QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) I wouldnt hate Cust if we gave him a contract with an option for a 2nd year, it wouldnt cost much and leaves us available to spend some money on a 3rd OF in f/a or trade. I'm on board for this. If you can assume you get two regular players worth of production out of Andruw/Kotsay/Cust/Pods......... and it retains your flexibility for next year... ...it's at least something to think about when you compare the odds of that with the odds of Matsui having a bad two years. Only because while Matsui sucking is less likely...it's more destructive to our 2011 FA dreams if it does happen. Depending on what Matsui gets paid now.

I guess they'll figure they can see what they have with Santos as a mop up man. Meanwhile you send Hudson to AAA and have added side benefit of letting his mystique grow as a trade asset. Then you can bring him in as the fulltime mopup man after Santos gets shelled. Which would be one of those times where a GM indirectly manages the team in a sense. I would hope it doesnt backfire and cost us a few early games that would have helped a division battle later.
-
We can talk about Cust specifically if anyone wants. Do you see it as just another way of making an out, or as evidence that yr guy cant do crap with the bat besides try for the seats? Obviously the latter is what most people tend to side with... but then again all over the field you have different guys trying to provide different services to a team. One is power. And in our park it may be worth some Ks to get it.

Can I change to "Die Sox White Fan" how do I do this...is it somewhere in my controls or does a mod have to. Or do i just have to completely restart and lose postcount
-
Maybe JJ Putz and Matt Thornton hang out in this bar where everyone there is an awesome reliever.
-
He was never my all-time favorite player or anything, but he'll probably be remembered in an unfair light for this last half season. And as far as his whole career here...will probably be given a little less than his due b/c he wasnt a homegrown talent, and overall was pretty much a vanilla personality. But several years here he had some big numbers, and obviously meaningful ones with regard to the history of the franchise.
-
I could keep it but he'll probably be in the AL against us and it'd just be weird. suggestions? Never got to switch to ShutUpandDye as I had planned
-
I don't love it, but if they've done their homework on Putz and needed to do this to make it happen financially...then I cant be opposed. Especially if they see Hudson as being the long man. Carrasco was solid but this year should be about contention. So you kind of have to dare to be great, get some live arms. What we're really all mad at is that the Linebrink move still hurts us, in that we went multiyear with this guy and being trapped under that, we're forced to make this kind of move. In isolation I cant hate this, have to see what final product KW leaves us with.

Buehrle Bids to be Cardinals Manager
Princess Dye replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's so rare to have a player still remain a fan and be vocal about it. Really rare in the day and age of players treating it solely as a business and nothing more. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:18 PM) Seriously? You do realize he would have gotten a virtually identical amount, and possibly more, in arbitration anyways right? All understood, but my problem is being locked in with him the next few years. I wouldnt have minded going to arb with him this year and then having options open for a big spending spree for hitters next year, with Nix as the replacement for MT. Now 2010 is just a little more tight. I'm not saying it's awful, but with Nix you had maybe the potential for a .320 OBP guy with a little power, which is what Teahan has been mostly. Nix actually was one of our best HR per PA last year. Both Nix and Teahan are looked at as guys who need to get better at 3B. So if it's kind of a risk defensively anyway, why not tie your boat to the guy making peanuts? But all that said it's done and I would love to see MT hit that ceiling that he established in his best year. Nix cant do that, I'll grant.
-
It's weird because the money is reasonable, and I'm no bigtime Nix-supporter. But then when the Sox cry poor in 2010 free agency I'm going to wonder why this was done when you can just plug a backup-type in at 3b. I dont want to do that, but I do if it means it's the only way we can later afford Boras clients (or guys of that level).

This is the second straight really poor thread title i've put out there. If someone can change it for me I'll promise not to do this a third time.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/white-sox/ Most interesting sentence in it is completely mangled, not exactly sure what it was meant to say Missing an edit i guess Highlights: Flowers looking like more and more of an option as backup C......... Thome not ruled out yet, despite their preference for flexibility with a DH

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 09:29 AM) C'mon, guys. I thought this thread was bumped again because there was some new news on the AG front. f*** Cowley! Or at least change the title of this thread to "If you think Joe Cowley sucks donkey cock, post here." That way I can stay outta this thread. Seriously, one way or another this thread has to die. And lets not do any more posts on the newest 'update' as yr then giving said source the satisfaction he likely craves.

Angels "Working Hard" To Trade Gary Matthews Jr.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) Sox trade: Konerko ($12M in '10), Linebrink ($5M in '10, $5.5M in '11), prospects Angels trade: GMJ ($11M in '10, $12M in '11), prospects Padres trade: Gonzalez ($4.75M in '10, $5.5M in '11) Sox get: Gonzalez, GMJ Angels get: Konerko, Linebrink Padres get: Sox prospects, Angels prospects Sign me up for this one. I guess the horribleness of GMJ's contract makes it not-impossible. -
QUOTE (VAfan @ Dec 4, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) Not the best solution, but probably better than signing a RF and rotating Kotsay/Jones at DH. (BTW -- Ozzie will not DH his back-up catcher.) If CJ Retherford were to make the team, you have an emergency 3rd catcher

We must be one of the few potential contenders out there with two spots available still (DH and OF). Another nice byproduct is you can DH Quentin and cut down his wear and tear, and get better OF defense to boot with GMJ/Rios/Kotsay. Or DH Pods, etc. -

I hate to say this but if he and Adrian Gonzalez were traded here (as we had speculated about before)..... i think GMJ would play a lot for us in RF. Not that this is particularly uplifting in any way. -
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/1047116...sign-3B-Figgins Weird. Enjoy losing, Chone If the suitors arent climbing over each other lining up for him, you'd think we could come in with some kind of offer and be taken seriously. Especially when you think about the declining closer we're about to give 7.5M to

CHC mustve gotten some real value back....otherwise this makes no sense and is a steal by Oakland -
Maybe I just confused my Jacks and Jakes. It looks like Jake Fox and Miles for prospects http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-kapl...-prospects.html If someone can edit my idiotic thread title, I would appreciate it (I cant do it right?)
