Massive overnight shooting at Southside Chicago park
TaylorStSox replied to knightni's topic in The Filibuster
This will sound crazy, but one of the most shortsighted moves the government made was by dissolving the leadership of these gangs, especially where the violence is most concentrated, between the GD's and BD's. When these gangs had strong leadership, they were governed by their own codes, rules and standards. There were real repercussions to breaking these rules. Now, there's no leadership and no structure. At one time, these gangs were pretty tight run organizations. Lawmakers were naive in thinking they could eliminate gangs. The reality is that these are multigenerational organizations that the members identify with before anything else. The number of gangbangers has only increased and now, with no leadership, you're left rogues and renegades who have grown even more violent. It worked with the mafia, but honestly the mafia had nothing on these guys. The entire scale is completely different. Unfortunately, there is no short term solution to quell the violence. I'm sure as hell not smart enough to come up with one. Actually, I do know. It starts with legalizing drugs and robbing the gangs of their purpose, to secure areas to sell the drugs. Take away their funding. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) Why does Robin all of a sudden want to manage forever? If his stance has completely changed, my guess is he'll sign that multi-year extension if it's offered again this offseason. If we suck defensively and on the basepaths again next year, Robin should be on the hotseat. He probably won't be, though, cause Sox are not going to be in the news much next season if we are out of it in May. My guess is attendance also will take a big hit this time if we suck a second consecutive season. p.s. To those of you who get mad when I bring up how expensive it is to go to a game, the current edition of ESPN the Mag has an article on best/worst franchises. The BEST FRANCHISES currently (Memphis Grizzlies is No. 1) are ones with very cheap season ticket prices and food prices. ESPN said surveys say AFFORDABILITY is huge now with fans. Fans don't want to be robbed at their sports venues. Finally, I'll be at the United Center this year to watch Duke play Kansas in men's college basketball and Kentucky play Michigan State. I have to drive a car to the United Center and not take public transportation. Do you think a.) I'll be mugged or b.) my car will be damaged/stolen? I have to stay a while after the game waiting for a friend who works at the UC. Will I be mugged going back to my vehicle? Thank u for all the answers. You're totally gonna get mugged in the land of sprawling parking lots and new condos. That neighborhood is downright scary. They don't call it Chiraq for nothing!

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 19, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) Still ignores the fact other audio apps have been updated and are working fine. To pretend Yahama isn't a big name in that industry is a joke. They're bigger than Audiobus, for sure. Yamaha doesn't have any apps near as popular as Audiobus. Outside of Yamaha's studio monitors, they don't have any popular hardware in the audio industry either. They're kind of seen as a joke company that makes toy keyboards for kids.

The Mariners are rebuilding? They've been rebuilding since I was in high school. I just had to stop reading to point that out.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 19, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) You can't just generalize that these developers were lazy or stupid. They make apps for music creation. Mobile apps in general are fairly easy to make, but how many general apps deal with audio creation and interface with musical instruments? Whenever hardware comes into play, things get more complicated than your usual mobile app. Exactly right. These apps are designed to interact with hardware and are far more intensive than anything Rock is running. I find the whole thing interesting as one of Apple's selling points is the stability of the OS and its ease of use with audio developers. I'll upgrade my iPad eventually, but I'm not upgrading the iPhone. I have a 4 and my contract has a while before I can upgrade. I really don't trust Apple to not f*** me because my phone is "obselete."

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 05:18 PM) Yup. Always blame the big bad company instead of your lazy developers. We've had people developing on IOS7 for months and months. Anyone who hasnt is really stupid or lazy. We're talking about multimillion dollar companies here. This isn't your mom and pop app. It's kind of a big deal.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 18, 2013 -> 04:20 PM) Because other audio apps are working fine, such as Yamaha's? They need to build a new framework and use the new ios7 APIs. And it's not just Yahama's that works, as does Tracktor...so it's sounding to me like Audiobus waited too long and didn't make their deadlines. http://www.djtechtools.com/2013/09/18/ipad...pdate-to-ios-7/ They pretty much say there are always issues, but for the most part, in their studios, this software all seems to work on ios7 just fine. Audiobus, which is easily the most important and popular music creation app around as it allows apps to "talk" to one another, is even recommending not updating. If Audiobus puts out a warning, it's a pretty big deal. As StrangeSox said, Traktor also put out a warning, as did Korg. In my experience, even iOS 6 has been incredibly unstable. I've crashed Safari numerous times.

It looks like iOS 7 is a nightmare for audio developers. I received a few emails today from separate developers warning users to not update.

Vote Harrelson for the Ford C. Frick award
TaylorStSox replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He's an annoying, redundant, mean-spirited prick, but I should like him because he's old and roots for the same team and stuff like that. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) Just remember the example of Josh Phegley when discussing how far away Semien's bat might be from contributing. I never believed in Phegley. You can just look at their swings and tell Semien is on a different level of prospect.
-
Semien's not too far off and I'd try to find a way to get L. Garcia more AB's. I'm generally fine with good defensive middle infielders that can't hit, but they better be ++defenders or steal bases. Beckham doesn't really do anything exceptionally well outside of turn the double play.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 09:32 AM) Just to throw it out there, wonder if Gordon's thrown in the towel completely on the year. It's not like the guys around him are trying hard, why should he? A busted prospect who should be fighting for his MLB life is throwing in the towel? I highly doubt it.
-
I'm just amazed that people that have been watching him every day for 4 years still believe that he's magically going to learn to hit and that he's a "great defensive 2nd baseman." I'm not sure what I'd do with him at this point. He has no trade value. He still hasn't produced. I'd probably move him to 3rd because his glove plays better there, but his bat sure as hell doesn't. He's nothing more than a stop gap.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 13, 2013 -> 12:56 AM) If we are talking underrated comedians you may never heard of, I'd like to toss Kyle Kinane and Tommy Johnagin in the group. Both are Chicago comedians, both are pretty solid. Kinane was hilarious on Drunk History.

I got banned at the other site for saying "Beckham hits like a girl." I swear that kid has the best marketing department around. The amount of bulls*** propaganda about him is ridiculous.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 02:01 PM) No he's not. That was part of the point of the post you replied to. Right. He's just not dynamic enough to be called "great."
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) The "L" stands for "Lil" I like it.

Mini Garcia sure showed how overrated Beckham is defensively. He made some incredible plays at second tonight.
-
Man Semien has a pretty right handed swing.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I'm sickened at how Detroit has built a good enough team to dominate this weak division for years to come. No excuse for Chicago to not be winning this division on a regular basis. Unfortunately we have some work to do to catch up to every other team in the division including the paupers in Minnie and KC. I'm still amazed at how good our pitching is on paper and how rotten our position players are. Get to work, Mr. Hahn. You need a good, effective plan. You got some $$$ to work with. 1. Detroit has a small window. They're getting old and fat. 2. You know who their owner is, right? 3. Nobody "from Detroit" is actually from Detroit. Sure, the city is a depraved hell hole, but the suburbs are sprawling and pretty well off.

How comfortable are you rooting for the draft pick?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) I guess you are just lucky you aren't me. You would have been suspended within minutes of your lack personal attack. This makes two but I doubt anyone would bat an eye. You're bringing it on yourself. Don't cry when you get called out for it. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Maybe Taylorsox for his personal attack, but that's on him, not the rest of us. It's not like there is much else to talk about with this awful team right now. You say "f*** you Conor" after he hits a homer and try to get me banned for calling you out? Damn dude, you are b**** made. -
I really like watching mini-Garcia. He's going to grow into a favorite of mine. I love fast guys with plus gloves and cannons.

Vlad had one of the best hit tools I've ever seen. His plate coverage and ability to drive balls way out of the zone was just mind boggling. He was an incredibly fun player to watch and one of my all time favorites.
